Edu-Dance Edu-dance is going full steam ahead with sessions each

Monday. All the groups are participating enthusiastically

and busting some very impressive moves. We are all

looking forward to the Concert which will be a

compilation of all years at the Concert finale on the 22nd

September. Be sure to visit the web site and keep an

eye out in the newsletter for Concert times.

Student Safety It is timely to remind all students and parents about

keeping safe while travelling to and from school.

I would encourage you all to speak to your children about

this issue.

Here are some simple suggestions to help your child stay

safe. Please ask your child to:

• Always travel in company.

• Walk on the right hand side of the road so

you can face oncoming traffic.

• Wherever possible, leave space between

yourself and the roadway.

• Stay in areas that are well lit.

• Stay in view – avoid going into areas that

are hidden from view (such as parkland

bush or behind shopping centres) and plan

trips to avoid such locations.

• Be alert – earphones and headphones can

reduce your awareness considerably.

• If you have a mobile phone, have it turned

on and ready to dial an emergency number.

• If a passing car stops nearby, never get

too close.

• Do not hesitate to run from a situation in

which you feel at risk.

• Report suspicious behaviour to parents,

school and the police, noting number plates

of cars and/or clothing or distinguishing

features of individuals.

Sustainability News

The Sustainability meeting for members has been held and we discussed the push to have more children walking

and riding to school each day, especially as the weather

is becoming warmer.

We also discussed the move to reduce the amount of

plastic and wrappers which end up in the bin, in the

garden and the frog pond each day. We are advocating a

‘plastic free September’ as a whole school. No plastic

wrapping, bags, lolly wrappers, straws – no plastic, full

stop! We ask that all parents, children, the canteen and

staff help work towards achieving this goal.

We will have a ‘hands up’ each day to see who has a ‘zero’

plastic recess and lunch each day in their lunch box. Let’s

all see what we can really achieve in September.

Our next Market Stall will be held on Wednesday

August 27,2014.

One Line Budget You may have heard in the media about changes to the

current budget arrangements for all schools. Essentially

schools will receive an allocation per student then

additional funding will be added for various elements of

disadvantage. Accurate comparisons are difficult, but

information currently available indicates that our school

will receive an increased amount of funding. I will be

attending a meeting next week with the Registrar to find

out more. I will keep you up to date.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY IS COMING!

cannot accept any late payment envelopes.

You also have the option to order a sibling photo package,

however please be aware there may be a limited number

of sibling orders that can be placed due to time

Football News Congratulations to the Aussie footy team for winning the

Eagle Cup this year. Last term, they won all of their

home/away games to secure the cup. Scott Sellwood,

school on Monday to present it and have a chat to the

footy team. Everyone was excited, especially the office

staff. The footy has had excellent results this year, as

they also came runner up in the Docker’s Shield. A huge

thank go out to Mr Thomas and Mr Eckhardt for the

coaching last term.

Immunisation - Information for Parents Immunisation programs in our community are designed to

keep everyone well and safe, especially those people who

are most at risk, such as babies.

Parents or legal guardians who do not immunise their

child should note the following:

In the case of a Measles or Pertussis (whooping cough)

outbreak, Western Australian schools are required by

the Department of Health, to exclude students who have

not received the appropriate number of vaccinations.

Please make sure your school-aged child is fully

immunised and that you have provided a copy of the

ACIR immunisation record to the school.

Did you know that as parents you can ring the National

registry or go to the web site to check out your child’s

immunisation status? All you need is your Medicare

number. Phone 1800 653 809 or access the web site:

www.humanservices.gov.au or

email [email protected]

Please supply our Administration with up to date records

of your child’s immunisation details.

FUSSY EATERS… Fussy eating can start from an

early age around 2 – 3 years of

age. At this age, a child’s

growth slows down and they

become less hungry. This is a

passing phase however children

may choose to maintain their

fussy eating habits to school

age. Some ideas:

1. Allow your child to choose from a healthy selection of foods for breakfast.

2. Involve your child in the preparation of their lunchbox and the after school snack.

3. Serve dinner earlier if your child is tired at the dinner table, and

4. Provide a calm and relaxed environment at meal time.

If children fill up on large amounts of liquids such as

juice as well as non nutritious foods such as crisps,

biscuits and other snack foods high in salt, sugar and fat,

this leaves little room for other healthier food choices.
