IPad Insurance Reminder!!!
We still have several people who accepted the Insurance
but have not sent the money. Just a friendly reminder -
insurance does NOT go into effect until the money is paid.
If the IPad gets damaged it is the responsibility of the
parent to pay for repairs.
With 236 students in our school, it is very difficult and disturbing to classes to deliver personal messages at the end of the day. Please make after school plans, transportation decisions, visits to a friend’s house, etc. ahead of time. The end of the day gets very busy. Emergency situations are different. We will do our best to be of service to you in an emergency.
Thank you for your help.
Parents-
Just a reminder, volunteer opportunities will be posted online throughout the year. You must sign up online and not with the
teaching staff.
If you already have a volunteer account, log in at myvolunteerpage.com, select the opportunity you are interested in and sign up.
(If it is full/locked, you have the option of being put on a back up list.)
If you haven't created an account yet, visit tiny.cc/WSDONE and click the “For Volunteers” tab on the left.
Complete Step 1 and Step 2 (Step 2, if the opportunity requires a criminal background check)
Remember, volunteering in the classroom and going on field trips requires a criminal background check. They do
take time to process so please PLAN AHEAD.

Maine Student council is organizing a Food Drive for
November 12-16th. We will collect non-perishable and unexpired
food items, which will be donated to The Neighbor’s Place. The
class that collects the most food items will earn a keychain, which
shows they contributed to reducing hunger in our community.
Suggested items: pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, rice, beans,
soup, canned meats, canned fruits & vegetables, Mac&Cheese,
cereal, juice and boxed meals.
One CAN make a difference!
SNOW/EMERGENCY School Closing
The winter season will soon be upon us. It is time to start planning for school closing or early dismissal. It is
important to discuss with your child your plan for early dismissal due to inclement weather. Following are
some reminders concerning School Cancellations:
The decision to close school or delay buses is made at Longfellow Administration Building.
Closing announcements will be made between 5:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. if possible. Announcements
will be made through School Messenger as well as on local radio and TV stations.
Closing school during the day will be announced in the same manner. Please do not call school
and ask if school is closing. We are notified at the same time the radio and TV stations are
contacted. If First Student is unable to pick up students because of hazardous and/or impassable road
conditions, and parents are unable to transport their child(ren) to school because of road conditions
(or extreme cold conditions), the student will receive an excused absence provided the school is
notified of the absence. Please refer to the WSD Emergency Closing Plans at the end of the newsletter
for more information!
Soon you will be receiving a sheet to verify your plan from last year or select a new plan in the event
school closes early due to inclement weather. Please watch for this to come home and make your
selection and return to the school office.
The Maine School Store will open on Friday, October 19th. The store
carries a number of useful supplies! Students in grades 3-5 will have
opportunities to shop once a month from 1:50-2:05 (during the afternoon
recess). School store employees this year will be Addie Fochs, Allison
Jagodzinski, Mykenzy Edwards and Taylor Deffner! If your child needs to
replenish their supplies, encourage them to visit the school store!

outside conditions so they can be comfortable and enjoy themselves!
Please mark your child’s clothing with their name. The lost and found is already overflowing and that would enable us

Re: Emergency School Closing
First Student Bus Arrival Times
Below are approximate times yellow buses would arrive at the schools to pick up students when schools are in
session and an early dismissal is necessary. Students will be dropped off at their normal afternoon drop off location.
These are examples of a variety of dismissal times; students not riding yellow buses may leave school at the
announced dismissal time and parents may pick up students at the announced dismissal time. Parents should make
every attempt to pick up their child within an hour of the announced dismissal time. Please know buses may be
delayed. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.

On October 8, Mrs. Hitz's first-grade class enjoyed an adventure filled day at the School Forest. They made and sailed
boats, learned about insects by looking at them up close through a microscope and went on a scavenger hunt in the
museum! Everyone had fun and learned a lot during their day with the trees.
Last week was a busy week at Maine Elementary! We learned about Fire Safety from our Town
of Maine Firefighters and celebrated Fall with Apple Crunch Day!
