We’re here to help support you on your faith journey, so you can find

true peace, happiness, and purpose in life. If you would like to join one of

our parishes, contact any staff member, and we will be honored to

officially welcome you home!

New-member registration forms are also available in the church

entrances and on our website.

Please contact Deacon John in the parish office to schedule the baptism and the baptism preparation class.

Congratulations on your engagement! Please contact Fr. Reker at least 6

months in advance to begin preparation.

If you or a family member is homebound or in the hospital and would like a

pastoral visit, please notify the office.

If your garden is anything like the parish’s grounds, you cannot complain about too little rainfall; I can hardly remember an August in southern Minnesota when the landscape has remained so green. One morning I woke up to discover mushrooms sprouting in the playground! I find myself praying that the rain will stop and that farmers will receive only the precipitation they need for a good crop. As we move into harvest season, we can all pray for weather that will facilitate a safe and bountiful return on the efforts and investments farmers have made. All this rainfall makes me think of gardens and the landscaping around both parishes.

Perhaps you have never thought about it, but gardens play a large role in the history of salvation and the Bible. Genesis begins in a garden called Eden. Through the prophets God speaks of Israel as the vineyard of the Lord. And Jesus rises from the dead in a garden setting. A garden can even serve as an apt image for the human soul. Gardens and landscaping around a church can not only beautify the grounds, but also point to our understanding of God’s loving creation and recreation. There is a need for more help at both parishes:

At St. Joseph the Worker, earlier this summer Ann Doyle resigned as head gardener after 13 years of dedicated service; thank you very much! There are a number of gardeners, who plant, weed, and water, but one of them mentioned to me that they need some new (and younger) blood. The flower gardens between the church and rectory receive rave reviews and help welcome parishioners and visitors. Don’t you want to be a part of this rejuvenating ministry? Call the Parish Office if interested.

At Holy Family, at least one parishioner has mentioned that the landscaping looks a little “tired.” The new entrance project, which I am calling “Open Wide the Doors,” might be a good time to form a gardening group. These “co-creators” could spruce up (excuse the pun) what we have and plan what we would like the grounds to become. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Again, please contact me or call the Parish Office.

Don’t forget the Rectory Open House next weekend after the 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday (6 pm or so) and the 10:30 am Mass on Sunday (11:30 am or so). You will get to see the contributions and efforts provided by the SJW Men’s Club (which we will be recognizing at Mass next Sunday), the furnishings given by the SJW Women, the new television donated by the HF Men’s Club, and the enhancements to the patio by the HF Women (comfortable chairs, plants and umbrella). I hope that I can keep the flowers alive for another week! My mantra on landscaping is “low maintenance,” so you probably don’t want me in either gardening group. I also want to thank Joe and Carolyn Deal for the Adirondack chairs for the front entryway and both women’s groups for hosting the open house. Our maintenance staff, Jon & Mike, were a great help, as was my sister Ann, who helped with the decorating. We are blessed to live in an Eden-like garden, not?

Sincerely in Christ,

Make sure to come and try out the new

attraction this year, a 65ft inflatable

obstacle course. Fun for all ages!

SJW HUBBELL HARVEST FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS STILL

DESPERATELY NEEDED!

Volunteer sign-ups are located in the Parish Entrances. Families: sign up with your children to help in whatever

area you choose for one shift, then spend the other half of the festival enjoying yourselves! There is

something for everyone from general set-up, to kitchen crew, to running a game. Donations are also needed for the Jar Raffle and Silent Auction. Drop off items in entrances or at the office. We thank you in advance,

you make this “fun”draiser possible!

Children’s Liturgy of the Work - Sunday’s at (HF) 8:30 am & (SJW) 10:30 Mass

- it is a special part of the Sunday Masses. During the Liturgy of the Word portion of the Mass, children 4 years to 2nd grade are invited to come forward for a special blessing and then go listen to the readings in a different environment and on a level that the children can better understand and enjoy. It is a wonderful way to assist our children in focusing on the meaning of the Sunday Liturgy. They return to their families after the General Intercessions to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the entire community. There are several ways you can participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Work - as a Liturgy Leader, Liturgy Assistants, Music Leader or Time Keeper.

Training is provided for those who would like to volunteer.

All Volunteers must complete a background check form, attend a Virtues Training, and adhere to St. Joseph the Worker and Holy

Family’s Volunteer Code of Conduct.

For more information on how to volunteer, contact the Faith Formation office at [email protected] or call 507-388-3766
