Bear Community Center and PavilionCenter is a beautiful building in an exceptional setting.
It is available for a wide variety of community and family
events. Please call 789-1770 for rental information.
Memorial Tree GroveThis serene place was developed to memorialize
individuals who have enjoyed, been active,
or had an interest in outdoor recreation, the Bear Project
and the community. A Recognition Ceremony is held
on the second Saturday of September.
Bear Tales Fire CircleConstructed by the Evanston Rotary Club, the “Bear
Tales” Fire Circle is an outdoor classroom and
amphitheater. It is available for community use.

Evanston’s River Playground!The Bear River Greenway originated in 1983 as the
B.E.A.R. (Better River and Environment) Project to
develop the Bear River as a natural and cultural focal point
of the community. A master plan guides the development
of the Greenway. The Greenway is the result of a dynamic
partnership between the B.E.A.R. Project, the City of
Evanston, the Evanston Parks & Recreation District, and
the Bear River State Park.
SummerFishing, boating, walking or biking on the nature trails
Year-roundWildlife watching — Moose, deer, beaver, muskrat, and a
variety of birds, ducks and geese.
Nature TrailsThe Greenway is laced with paved and gravel nature trails.
WinterIce-skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking
Ice Ponds The ice ponds are the recreational center of the Bear River
Greenway, offering fishing and boating in the summer and
ice skating in the winter.
BEARiver FestThis annual celebration of the Bear River is a great way to
kick off the summer season in Evanston, when the river is at
its highest.
