A New Year has be-gun and it is a year which finds much tur-moil in our nation and world. We are seeing many of the institutions we have trusted falter. you for inviting us into your beau-tiful home! Carol, thank you for the remembrances you placed at our table settings. Our next meeting will be on Janu-ary 8, 2009. We will meet at the fellowship hall at 11:00 a.m. Kay Padon will be our program leader & everyone is asked to bring a bag lunch.

Love in Christ, Jeanne

The Day Circle met at the home of Jessie Crouse on December 11, 2008. There were 15 members and 2 guests present (Welcome Jess ie Crouse & Donna Yarbrough.!). Betty Hedrick shared a program based on John 3:16. One thought-provoking phrase meant a lot to all who were present-“We are all handcuffed to God and only He has the key!” Thank you, Betty, for these inspi-rational words.

Birthday greetings were extended to Jackie Garner on the 13th & Kaye Sanders on the 17th. Prayer concerns included: the families of Shelia Hedrick, Pauline Seaford, & Leon Varner, Auntie Alice Toga-shi, Roger & Wendy Younts & family, Justin Miller, Butch & Susan Arnold, Dana Hedrick-Burnsides, Donald & Peggy Parks, Edith Young, Craig & Gina Idol, Peggy Pearce, Sherry Kinney, Do-lan & Iris Parks, & families who need assistance in our community. May God be your strength in these difficult times. After the treasurer’s report & the minutes were read & corrections made, we adjourned for a wonder-ful lunch provided by our host-esses-Carol & Jessie Crouse, & Imojean Burkhart. Jessie, thank

loose the true meaning of Christmas. When we are united in Christ and start do-ing for others we will under-stand the full meaning of this season. God’s gift to us was our eternal live and our salva-tion – this is God’s ultimate

expression of His love for us. We need to remember to thank God for all He does and dedicate ourselves to Him. Our next meeting will be at Southern Lunch for breakfast on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Betty Younts will have the program as well as being hostess for the meeting.

The Breakfast Circle met on Decem-ber 3rd at Southern Lunch. Betty Jean had the tables decorated with “snow buddies”. It was very festive and Christmassy. We had 15 members in attendance and welcomed Ann Leonard as a guest. After we had our “bellies” full, Gail led us in the business meeting. Mostly we were reminded of Guild activities over the Christmas holidays. Our circle has the responsibility for the meal and dressing the participants

in the Live Nativity on Tuesday night. We decided to have hot dogs, chips and drinks. Cards were sent to Jean Plummer and Roger Younts. Roger will be home on December 16th. Everyone is look-ing forward to his homecoming! Betty Jean also had the program. Homemade presents seem to be a thing of the past. Today many people seem to get away from Christ and

We will begin again next year on January 21st, 10:30 AM at the fel-lowship hall for a covered dish meal. Your officers will be work-ing to get a pro-gram together for next year. If you have any place of interest that you would like to see, please let us know. I might also mention, that in the last newsletter, I incorrectly re-ported that there were 7,800 un-known and unaccounted for indi-viduals in WWII. This number should have been 78,000. See you all next year!

On December 7th, a group of Beck’s Sen-iors and some of our traveling companions went to Southern Su-preme Fruit Cake

Company in Bear Creek. After sampling and shopping we re-turned to the bus and continued to Fayetteville where we ate a fast food lunch and went (you know it’s coming – shopping). We had an early dinner at K&W and pro-ceeded to Snyder Memorial Church for their Christmas presen-tation. We took several cases of canned goods as well as a mone-tary donation. This program is outstanding. No matter how many times to see it, it is difference every year. I would knot be sur-prised if they don’t start practicing in January each year. If one does not get into the true spirit of Christmas after this program they are truly cold hearted. December17th our regular meet-ing was held at the fellowship hall, which was decorated with hurricane lamps with greenery and holly. There was a bag of pecans and candy at each place. Many thanks go to Carroll Dee, Brenda, Jerry & Betty for all their hard work. Margaret had the pro-gram and read the story of Christ-mas from the Bible. She also read some of the beautiful sentiments that were sent to her on Christmas cards. She concluded with the

reading of the “thankful chair” – it is not what we have but how we do with what we do have that counts! Lalah Frank brought an E-mail she received regarding the meaning as well as the purpose behind the Christmas carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas. All days and num-bers are symbols for items the church and the Bible. This was written during the time that it was unlawful to have worship services. Peggy Smith gave everyone a Christmas card and read a poem about the meaning of “friends”. Kim Hedrick not only sang beauti-ful music for us but also shared some of her special spiritual gifts with us. After John King delivered the blessing we all ate a catered meal provided by Southern Lunch. I

guess you could say this was a treat for ourselves for all the hard work we had done through the year. All “seniors” received

gift bags of goodies and special ones received a poinsettia or a bag of white chocolate covered pret-zels (how did they taste, Hazel). We had a wonderful day and all left over food was packaged up and taken to our shut- ins.

The KFC and CYF youth groups met on Saturday, De-cember 6, 2008 from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. First we would like to say that those that did not at-tend the Christmas Caroling surely did miss out on a good time. It is sad to say that we only had 3 children from KFC and 1 child from CYF. A few of the children did a small craft before leaving to go caroling. We divided up into two groups so that each group would have some children. Dana and Tara’s group began on Beck’s Church Road and took us on a journey to Thom-asville and then back to Lex-ington. The children in our group really got into spirit with their elf hats and sing-

ing. Gavin was our special lit-tle elf by giving out cards, homemade gifts that the 1st and 2nd grade class of SPLASH had made and some snowflake bookmarks to any person that we sang to. Gavin handed out 96 bookmarks with love and a special Merry Christmas. So you must be thinking 96 bookmarks! Our group did not just sing to peo-ple on our list, but sang to 4 different dining rooms at the two facilities. The joy that we received from seeing the people sing and clap was a re-ward to us and taught the children the importance of giving. Thank you to everyone that has helped with can collection during the months of Octo-

The Middle School Youth had a great December. On the 6th – Christi, Robert and Anna Swing hosted a Christmas party for us at their home. We enjoyed pizza, cookies, and a movie along with a fun game of “Dirty Santa” and a short devotion about the meaning of the symbol of the Dove. We were also very excited to collect over 20 presents for Fox 8’s “Gifts for Kids” toy drive. It was a suc-cessful event! Thanks to Christi, Robert and Anna! Also December 14th , we provided the meal for the Christmas Play to raise funds for our summer Mis-sion Trip. Plans are already started for a trip to Golden Isles Georgia the week of June 21st to work in a children’s home and at a local VBS. We are so thankful to those who support us financially so we can go out and do God’s work. It is such a blessing for us and a wonderful experience! December 20th, we have plans to go see the play “Godspell” a musi-cal based on the Gospel of Mat-thew and performed by the Ledford Find Arts Depart-ment. We are looking forward to this as well. Happy New Year!! Our CWG's are starting out the new year the right way, they enjoyed the Bible study with Kevin and decided to continue it this month. (check your e-mail for confirmed dates). They also ended 2008 in the right way by making available to less fortunate families $40.00 gift bags for Christmas. With donations and the money they brought themselves we were able to do 22 bags. So a Big Thank You to everyone that helped. Also a Big Thank You to Raymond & Kay Padon for letting us use the Padon Place for our Christmas Party we enjoyed a great meal and then went to play laser tag . We wish everyone a great new start to a great new year. Lots of Love Jamie
