This program requires three full-time block placements over 4, 4 and 5 weeks. Early Childhood Education program complete three practice teaching field placements during their studies. These are block placements requiring a full-time commitment Monday to Friday over periods of 4, 4 and 5 weeks. Placements are assigned by the Online Learning Field Placement Officer with an emphasis on having students experience different early childcare environments during their course of study.
• There are 3 placements in the program of study for a total of 455 hours. The first placement takes place in the 2nd semester for a total of 140 hours. The second placement takes place in the 3rd semester for a total of 140 hours. The last placement is in the 4th semester for a total of 175 hours. • Students complete placements in 3 different locations hopefully with different age groups. • If students have been working in the early learning sector in licensed child care programs, they can PLAR (Prior learning recognition and assessment). The PLAR allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. This can only be used for the first placement in the ECE program. • The on campus and online programs are the same in terms of the courses and expectations for placement (same

number of placements to complete). • The students are placed in their preferred area of Ottawa • Students work the same hours as their mentor • For each placement, the students have to meet all competencies outlined. • Each placement has different expectations for the students to meet. • At Algonquin, the first placement is referred to as the Assist level with a focus on demonstrating competency in routines and transitions. • The Second placement is referred to as the Practice Level. The focus is on curriculum. • The last placement competencies mirror the Standards of Practice as outlined by the College of ECEs. Students must meet all competencies at a "Ready to Practice" level.

From the link you will note that Cambrian College does not offer a fully online delivery. ECEP (a traditional on-campus, in-person delivery) and ECAD (hybrid model – in-person intensive at the start of each semester followed by online). The ECE program at Cambrian College believes in the necessity of relationship building with peers, mentors, faculty which is supported by the research of the ECE field which is why we offer a hybrid delivery versus a fully online version.

Field placements are an important component of the program. Since you will already have work experience coming into the program, an individualized placement plan will be developed for you. This is the only alternate delivery program of this type in Ontario.
Placements are unique to each individual student registered in ECAD. If you have interested parties, I would be happy to discuss, via phone or email, their options (PLAR opportunities and/or placement completion with a RECE mentor in their work environment). The in-person sessions take place in different ways for different semester. Fall semesters have either a one or two week in-person, on-campus in Sudbury in August prior to the Sept. start and then students go online, the winter semesters are done virtually for students at a distance. They live stream into the classroom with their peers that live locally. The winter virtual session occurs over three weekends as to not disrupt the work week (Friday nights from 7-10 and all-day Saturday 8:30 – 4:30). As I noted three

In semesters two and four you'll put theoretical education to work in a child care environment. In semester three, ECE teams will implement and run an Interactive Children’s Program, overseen by ECE faculty in the Peterborough community. This will prepare you for semester four, when you will be pulling it all together in your final block field placements.
Students do an observational visit in a child care in semester one, a two day placement in child care in semester two and then a 7 weeks full time in child care, followed by 7 weeks full time in kindergarten.

600 work placement hours over three semesters. During these three semesters, students may have field practicums working with families and children (various age groups) in licensed child care or preschool settings, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, various community programs, full day kindergarten, or home based child care programs. A different placement for Semesters 2, 3, and 4
We offer three non-paid field placements – ECE 130 (and an online seminar to accompany the placement) in second semester (23 field days at 2 days per week including a one week block), ECE 230 field in third semester (same format) and ECE 250 in fourth semester (same format). In total students will do a range of hours between 550 and 600 hours in total. All field placements are in a wide variety of practicum settings. Prior to their field placements starting in second semester, we run the ECE 120 course that prepares them to be a preservice professional in their field practicum settings, how to ensure field documents are ready, and how to be a successful student in the postsecondary system. Students wishing to do a prior learning assessment of their previous work experience must apply through the registrar’s office and they must

meet the requirements of our Prior Learning Assessment for the field practicums. For example, for field 1 – in order to apply for the Plar (and then there are additional requirements after the application), students must have a minimum of 2 years full time experience, at least 25 hours per week consecutive employment, and the experience must be within the last 5 years with some Ontario context/ in a role associated with regulations/overseen by a qualified early childhood educator. Then if they meet that, there are additional requirements through a portfolio and interview. Field 2 is the same format – but the person must have a minimum of an additional 3 years experience (not including the years they used in the first PLAR for field 1 plus other requirements. Field 3 must be completed by all students. Your question re: paid

employment cannot be used as credit hours in their field placements – they can only engage in a PLAR process if they meet the requirements. We do not offer online options for ECE academics or field placements at this time. For the GNEDs and WRIT (English courses), students do have online option if they so choose.

three different field placements, semester 2, 3, 4: opportunity for international placements, which may include Hong Kong, Grenada or St. Vincent. courses offered in the part-time option are identical to those in the full-time option, and the graduation requirements are the same.
Our Early Childhood Education program is a 2-year Ontario College Diploma. The ECE program offers course-based registration, which allows you to create your own timetable (based on course availability) by selecting the days/times that work best for you. You can choose to take a full-time course load or study part-time during the day or evening. Majority of course offerings are delivered in-person with some online offerings. Students have the chance to transfer their learning into practice by completing three different field placements at Sheridan's highly acclaimed childcare centres, full-day kindergarten classrooms or other early learning settings. There's even an opportunity for international placements, which may

Employers who provide our field placement settings require a clear POLICE RECORD CHECK for criminal offences with vulnerable sector screening before accepting a student into the field placement setting. The record check MUST be obtained by the student at the student's expense. If you are unable to obtain this police clearance by mid September, you jeopardize the opportunity to complete either of your field placements.
