IS THIS IT?

Have you always had a lurking feelingyou were meant for better things? Areyou depressed, do you feel unfulfilled, angry or bitter about how life has treatedyou? Do you resent the fact that otherpeople seem to have endless success, luck and happiness while life kicks youin the teeth, over and over and over?Perhaps you feel you have some greattalent, waiting to be discovered. Do you

Page 11: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

know you would be capable of so muchmore, if only you were given theopportunity? Do you go through lifethinking ‘life wasn’t supposed to be thisway’, ‘I am worth more than this’, ‘whycan’t anyone recognize my talents?’ Ordo you have a sense of longing, ofsearching for something you know notwhat? Do you feel unappreciated in yourjob, your family, perhaps even in yourrelationship? Do you feel that in someplace, in another life, you would beshining like a diamond, rather thanignored and unnoticed as you are now:just another face in the crowd?

If you believe deep down that you arespecial, this is not some delusion; itreflects an underlying truth about you

Page 12: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

and the immensity of your trueunderlying power. At the moment, it’sjust obscured from view. In the way isgarbage in the form of unhelpful beliefs, negative messages from the media andsociety, worry and negative thinking. Itdoesn’t matter how old you are or whatcolor you are; it doesn’t matter howeducated or intelligent you are; it doesn’tmatter if you are considered beautiful orugly; it doesn’t matter whether you wereborn into extreme poverty and are livingin a wooden shack or mud hut. I put it toyou that you are still perfect, divine, andunbelievably powerful. Somewhere, deep down, your greatness is sitting…and waiting.

In the two small books of this course,

Page 13: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

you will rediscover that greatness andbegin to reclaim your birth-right. Youwill begin to awaken from the sleep thatyou have been living in for most of yourlife. At first, you will imagine thatcreating your own reality is all aboutmanifesting possessions, money, a newjob, a new partner. It’s true: you willlearn to manifest particular materialthings. But you’ll soon realize thatgetting more ‘stuff’ is only the beginningand you will soon come to see howinsignificant these ‘things’ really are.Manifesting material possessions isgreat, but only because it is a stepping-stone to the next stage.

Something much more spectacular thanmaterial riches awaits you. You have an

Page 14: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

entire life of wonder to which to lookforward. A life without fear, withouthardship, without poverty is at yourfingertips. Read these books, one at atime. Master this ability, thoroughly, completely and you will begin to liveyour life with a sense of aliveness, ofexpectation, and of sheer joy. You willwork miracles. You will be the miracleyou are.

At your core, you may already suspectthis to be true. If there is greatnesswithin you, you should feel a pang ofrecognition when you read this shortbook. You will not have to be convincedby what I say; instead, you will feel awonderful sense of things ‘ringing true’for you. If reading this book feels less of

Page 15: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

a learning, and more of a remembering, arecognizing, then greatness is within you.

Welcome to book one of your course inMagic. For many of you, this book willnot be your first dabble into the Magicalforay. Some of you will be familiar withthe Law of Attraction, Reality Creation,Positive Thinking and their like. Some ofyou will be Self-Help fans or PersonalDevelopment students. But still otherswill be new to this new and fascinatingfield of human thought and behavior.

It is my intention to lead you by the handthrough a marvelous journey of wonderand adventure. This book lays thegroundwork, while the one that followsoffers concrete techniques and

Page 16: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

instructions for bringing wonderfulthings into your life. The plan is to buildyour knowledge slowly, gradually, building on what has gone before, moving on to more complex techniquesonly once the basics are mastered.

So many people fail with Magic and theLaw of Attraction because they rushheadlong into using techniques, trying tocreate enormous manifestations, makingvery simple but crucial mistakes. Whenthey are disappointed, they imagine theyhave been duped. The skeptics are right. This is all a load of scammy nonsense. And they give up, declaring it justdoesn’t work.

I am telling you that it does work. And

Page 17: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

you can make it work.

And in this short book, I hope to showyou some of the reasons that it may nothave worked for you so far, what youcan do about it, and so turn you from oneof the bitter, newly-skeptical failures, into a powerful creator, a sorcerer, awizard.

Note that this book is not marketed. Ithas no advertising. You will havereceived it free or have bought it ascheaply as I was able to price it in thegiven medium. That it has fallen intoyour hands is through pure chance. Youcan choose to see that as a lucky orunlucky coincidence, or you can chooseto see it as something more portentous.

Page 18: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Put away your rational mind, and feel. Ifyou feel nothing when reading, put thebook down, deem it a waste of time andmove on. But if you feel an excited senseof belonging, of coming home, of truth, then keep reading. Does this seemexactly what you are looking for? Doesthe timing of your finding this book seema little too perfect to be dismissed asmere coincidence? Do my words seemto speak to you? Do you feel excited atthe very thought of this? Don’t fight thatfeeling. Keep reading. I may be exactlywhat you have been searching for.Prepare to be amazed, for this book islike no other.

You may be about to have the best yearof your life. Everything you have

Page 19: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

searched for, been waiting for, beenlooking for may be just about to fall intoyour lap. It has sought you out.

Because what I am talking about feelsmysterious and often so confusing, Iprefer not to tie it down with suchdefinite terms as ‘Law’ of Attraction.

I prefer to talk of doing Magic.

MAGIC?I DO HOPE YOU ARE JOKING!

That’s what I would have said, five orten years ago. I once despised all things‘New-Age’, all these spiritual types andtheir airy-fairy views, their bad scienceand their irrational beliefs.

Why Magic? Well, what is the definitionof something working, although you haveno idea how it works? Something

Page 22: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

happening with no clear explanation ofhow it has come about? Causation ofevents, acquirement of possessions andimpossibly serendipitous circumstancesthat confound and confuddle even anintelligent, educated person with ascientific background? You call thatMagic. Call it ‘Law of Attraction’ if youprefer, or ‘Reality Creation’ or‘Deliberate Manifestation’. I prefer‘Magic’ because of the way that thisdoesn’t seem to follow any set rules, although many are now attempting todescribe what is going on in terms ofscientific laws. So don’t get hung up onthe name used to describe what is goingon: Law of Attraction, Reality Creation,Deliberate Manifestation or Magic – it

Page 23: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

isn’t important.

Ever since I was a child I had a sneakingfeeling that there was supposed to bemore than this, that there was supposedto be more for me. Through my teens andtwenties I just knew greatness wascoming to me. My amazing andwonderful life was going to start anymoment. After all, I knew that I could doanything, and that during my life Iprobably would do everything. And Iwas in no hurry because I was young andfelt immortal. I had decades left to startmy magnificent life. But as my twentiesturned to thirties, there was still no signof my magnificent life. I had a few badrelationships, failed businesses and hadgot terribly into debt. It felt like I had

Page 24: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

been forgotten. I was destined forgreatness, but my life was playing out inthe most ordinary and mundane way.

As I turned forty, I began to feel that mymagnificent years had been and gone. Itwas becoming too late, and I was tooold to shine. The best of my years werebehind me. There was nothing better tocome. This was as good as it was goingto get!

How had this happened? How had Imanaged to waste my potential so badly? How had I overridden my destiny insuch a deleterious way?

Around ten years ago, I had fallen uponthe School of New Thought, forerunners

Page 25: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

to today’s Law of Attraction writers. Iread Think and Grow Rich and wastransfixed by Napoleon Hill’s words,Thoughts Become Things. This littlephrase rang around in my head day andnight. I was entranced by the idea thatjust by changing my thoughts, I couldchange my entire life. If only I couldthink of something long and hard enough, and in the right way, it would come tome.

I began to dabble with this way ofthinking, just out of curiosity really, justto ‘test’ it. I read everything I could find, from the greats such as Napoleon Hill,Charles Haanel, Wallace Wattles, EstherHicks and Wayne Dyer, to all thebandwagon-jumpers, those with the

Page 26: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

hard-sell websites and impossiblepromises. I followed different courses, different writers and gurus. I didcountless visualizations, created visionboards and said my affirmationsdiligently.

But I encountered a snag, rather anoverwhelming snag: I couldn’t make itwork. Any success I did have wassporadic, at best. Most of the time, nothing happened at all. Sometimeseverything went catastrophically wrong, and I managed to manifest, not what Ihad asked for, but the exact opposite! Idon’t know why I ever kept going; blindfaith and hope, I suppose. Any goodscientist would have rejected the wholeventure after seeing my pathetic results.

Page 27: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Until this point I had been blindlyfollowing the words of others, followingtheir exact instructions and waiting forresults. I followed Napoleon Hill’sinstruction to write down your desireand read it out three times a day, and Ithought that would be enough. I cut outphotos of lovely things and stuck them toa piece of MDF, thinking the cutting andthe sticking had some sort of power overevents in the world.

It was only when I recognized, acceptedand finally embraced that what I wasdoing was actually some kind of Magicthat suddenly things began to fall intoplace. Once I realized that the powercame from within me, it was as if thelight had suddenly been switched on.

Page 28: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Let me explain: think of a cartoon orchild’s film. An unsuspecting personpicks up a magic wand, stolen from awizard, waves it and says‘Abracadabra’. Some Magic occurs, aman turns into a frog or a chest oftreasure appears. This is how I had beenattempting to use Magic.

This is also exactly how most peopleattempt to use the Law of Attraction – asif it were something separate from them, something to be utilized, tapped into, picked up and put down. Thus theyconscientiously follow the instructionsof others, while failing to realize theimportance of themselves as an activeconstituent in the process. The worlddoes not respond to the waving of the

Page 29: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

wand, but to the person doing thewaving.

Some people do use Magic words, andsome use paraphernalia such as wands, some use affirmations and vision boardswith great success. But the Magic itselfalways comes from the person doingthe spell. Two people could say thesame words, follow the sameinstructions, wave the same wand, andget completely different results.

At some point, I began to ‘look within’; Ibegan to watch, to notice, to take notes,to become aware of what was going onin me, while all this was going on. Icame to see that Magic is something youhave to become aware of within you.

Page 30: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Trying to do Magic by blindly followingthe words of others is like trying to tastea strawberry by reading about it.

And so, I began to loosen up on the strictadherence to someone else’s ‘rules’. Imethodically began to notice the effectthat I had on the world. I began to noticeand become aware of my own power,my own enormous effect on the thingsaround me; this effect had always beenthere but I had never noticed until now.And with that, my life turned around. Allthe things I had most desired, money, friends, a partner, mental stability, allstarted to come to me, like Magic. Themore I noticed my own power, the morepowerful I became. It was as if bybecoming aware of my own Magic, that

Page 31: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

ability to do Magic increased. Instead ofexplaining fortuitous events away ascoincidence, I saw everything asevidence of my own power… and thatpower began to increase.

As a writer, I kept a detailed journal ofnotes, recording every last little thingthat occurred. This little book is theresult of those years of working with, struggling with and almost giving upover the so-called ‘Law’ of Attraction,or Magic, as I prefer to call it.

WHAT IS MAGIC?

I’m not some sort of mystical moonchild. I don’t have a name like UnicornGoddess, River Child, or AngelBlossom. I don’t have a house full ofcrystals or pentagrams. I don’t invokespirits, goddesses or the like.

I make no judgment of those who like touse paraphernalia such as crystals andcandles, vision boards or gratitude

Page 34: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

stones. I simply choose not to use thembecause such things make no sense to myunderstanding, they do not ‘speak’ to me.

Some people use such paraphernaliawith great success because it allowsthem to get in touch with their ownpower and Magic. And if havingcrystals and pentagrams and pictures ofgoddesses makes you feel Magic, if theyget you in touch with that power within,if they get your magical juices flowing, then they are completely and absolutelyright for you.

Magic does not belong to Wiccans, orany other sorts of ‘witch’. It has nothingto do with devil worship or calling uponevil spirits. I do not call on any spirits

Page 35: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

whatsoever.

Magic is not for the seventh daughters ofseventh daughters. It is not thosedescended from King Arthur or AleisterCrowley. Being Magic is not only for theeducated, or the middle-classes. It is noteven for the intelligent. There are many, many very successful people who havelow intelligence and education. Asimple, uncluttered mind can even be anasset when doing Magic. If you live in aslum and never finished school, you canstill do Magic; or you can be a Princeliving in a palace. Magic is open to all.

I am not interested in anyone who talksof the ‘true way’ or the ‘original way’.No one ‘owns’ the correct knowledge of

Page 36: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

how to do Magic. That sort of talksmacks of religious dogma. And there isno place for religious dogma insuccessful Magic. Thinking you mustfollow someone else’s dogma willobscure your own innate ability to doMagic yourself.

We do not need to look to a past time, orto go into a circle in the woods to doMagic. We can do Magic here, now, onthe bus, on our smartphones, on ouriPads, in the office, in the car. We do notneed to become vegans, grow our ownorganic food, or campaign for socialchange.

Magic is not making things appear out ofthin air (although with practice, this is

Page 37: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

pretty close to what can be achieved). Itis a feeling. A sparkling alive-ness. It isthat energy of feeling you are capable ofanything, in the flow, in the ‘zone’, ontop of the world, dancing with life. Inthis dance, sometimes you lead and lifeswirls around you; at other times, lifetakes the lead, but always, you movewith each other and respond to eachother.

When you feel like this, when you areable to dance with life instead ofreacting to life, instead of strainingagainst it, you are capable of anything! It’s when you are in this state thatamazing things happen to you, consistently and reliably.

Page 38: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Magic is about walking around with somuch charisma that strangers smile atyou. It is having such a feeling ofwondrous expectation that it is nosurprise when desirable things just dropinto your lap. And it is about feelingspecial. And feeling special is notlimited to the super-rich, the super-famous or the super-clever.

Most people will only experience tinyglimpses of this state, perhaps just a fewtimes in their lives. Some may not havecreated any Magic in years, decadeseven. Years of disappointment, negativemessages and low moods (perhaps evenbouts of depression) may have left youfeeling hopeless, powerless and at themercy of the world and its difficulties.

Page 39: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

You are not an insignificant dot in aninfinite universe. You are a hugelyimportant, powerful creator. You are awizard, a sorceress, a god.

If you’re fed up with being made to feelinadequate, underprivileged andpowerless by school, government andthe media, if you always knew you weremeant for bigger and better things, thenit’s time to turn your nose up at all of itand embrace your own Magic nature.

My intention is to waken the world to theMagic that is still very much alive, in theworld and in you.

So, why this book? Why read anotherbook on top of all the other hundreds out

Page 40: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

there?

If you are expecting me to reveal thetechnique that will allow you to manifesta million dollars by the weekend, youhave come to the wrong person. I don’tclaim to have discovered the ‘one weirdtrick’ for mastering Magic, I have notfound the ‘hidden secret’ to the Law ofAttraction (because there isn’t one). While reading this book, you won’t justbe told another wishful thinking fairy-tale, you won’t be told how quick andsimple this all is going to be.

You will be shown all the pitfalls, themistakes and the things that stop Magicfrom working. And if you have anyexperience of trying and failing with

Page 41: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Magic or the Law of Attraction, you willrecognize these as mistakes you havemade yourself.

There are lots of people offering adviceas to why the Law of Attractionsometimes doesn’t work. Everyone has adifferent reason for why manifestationisn’t working for you – perhaps youdon’t want it enough, you aren’t ‘clear’enough in setting your intentions, you justaren’t persistent enough, you aren’tvigilant enough… the list goes on.

Rather than asking you to take my wordover theirs because I know better, I askyou to read my reasons, my words anddecide for yourself whether they ringtrue for you. Do I answer all those

Page 42: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

questions you have wanted asked? Do Iseem to make sense where no one elsehas? Do I seem to describe, not somehypothetical fantasy world, but yourexperience? I don’t ask you to takeanything I say as true. I invite you to testit all for yourself, not against what youwant to be true, but against your ownexperience. I am hoping you willidentify with a lot of what I am about totell you. That’s why you should listen tome.

But I must warn you. Contrary to whatyou may have been told elsewhere, thisis very likely not going to be an easyprocess. There are a lot of other bookstelling you just what an easy process thisis. “All you need do are these very easy

Page 43: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

steps and everything will fall into yourlap. And I will only tell you those sixeasy steps if you give me 3 monthlyinstallments of $47.95”

This book is not one of them

It seems to me that the easier a book tellsyou this process will be, the more thatbook will sell. The way to sell morebooks, especially if you don’t knowwhat you are talking about, is to makethe process appear as easy and effortlessas possible. Be a millionaire by theweekend. One strange trick to manifestyour soulmate. The titles arecompelling. But this doesn’t make themtruthful or realistic. These sorts ofapproaches remain very attractive,

Page 44: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

promising such huge rewards for littleeffort. They appear so simple that it’seasy to fall for their charms. But don’tlet the supposed ease of a course orapproach fool you into thinking it istherefore more effective.

Those that tell you that Magic ormanifesting is an easy process are beingdisingenuous. It is true that for somepeople, everything ‘clicks’ first time andthey get the hang of this reality creationin a snap. But to suggest that you willautomatically be able to get the greatresults immediately is just not true formost people. The process of Magic isvery simple, that much is true. Does thismean it is easy? No, a thousand timesno! For most people, probably more

Page 45: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

than 95%, this will not be an easyprocess!

Does that put you off? Do you now wishyou had bought the ‘six easy steps’course from that website? You know, theone that promised you would be amillionaire by the weekend?

Most Law of Attraction writers areintelligent, clever people who speakfrom the heart and who really seem toknow what they are talking about; EstherHicks, Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolleare three you should look up. But forevery Esther or Eckhart, there are adozen dodgy-looking websites whichhave done nothing more than jumped onthe gravy train with no real knowledge

Page 46: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

or experience. It is these somewhatdisingenuous writers that have causedthe massive distrust in the Law ofAttraction. If all we had were theEsthers, the Waynes and the Eckharts, itis my belief that all of this would betaken a lot more seriously.

I am not writing a mass appeal book. Iam attempting to cut through themisleading hyperbole and outlandishclaims you are bombarded with online. Here are my cards, laid out on the table:

I am selling this book very cheaply orfree

I will tell you what I know, whether ornot it turns out to be popular.

Page 47: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

I don’t have a long thin website with abig red headline at the top telling you‘this one weird trick will make you amillionaire’, or ‘single mom makes$2000 a day working from home’.

Whenever I do make any profit fromthese books, I give that profit away. (Italways comes back to me!)

In this book, and its counterpart, DoingMagic, I don’t create a fantasy vision ofa future world which bears no relation toyour own experience of life. I am notone who had instant and profoundlyamazing success right off the bat. Youshould trust me because I didn’t get itright first time. I didn’t get it rightsecond, third, fourth, fifth or sixth time

Page 48: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

either! I am one who has made mistakeafter mistake, readjusted, recorded theresults and carried on! I am someonewho has been where you are, experienced what you feel, had the samecrappy results for years and years andlearned how to turn it around! I amtelling you now, that I made a long, slowdiscovery of the rules of Magic.

If you are fed up with the ‘one weirdtrick’ brigade, with empty promises andexpensive mistakes, you should continueto read.

If you are committed to reading, studying, applying yourself, taking notesand giving this the time that it needs, Ican show you the way to becoming

Page 49: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Magic and creating a dream life.

I can promise you only one thing: all thehard work will be worth it.

KEEP IT QUIET

I’m not going to suggest that you passthis book on to all your friends, tell yourblog, and announce it to your Facebookpage.

Not yet, anyway!

While I ask you to believe that Magicexists, I don’t recommend you shout thisbelief from the rooftops. At least in thebeginning, may I suggest that you don’t

Page 52: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

tell people what you are doing? Farbetter to at least get some success underyour belt before you announce to theworld how you have achieved it.

I learned very quickly to stop tellingpeople what I was doing. I just got fedup with having to argue that my suddensuccess was not down to fluke or luck orcoincidence, but down to what I hadbeen doing behind the scenes. To thisday, even most of my family don't knowwhat I'm up to. Hence the writing behinda pen name, no website and ananonymous email address.

I'm not saying you necessarily need to beas furtive as I have been. But you shouldbe aware that most people are very

Page 53: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

threatened by things they don’tunderstand. If you tell all and sundry thatyou are doing Magic before you aresuccessful, they will disagree with you, laugh at you, try and ridicule you andeven try and bring you down. You couldthen become demoralized and doubting.Doubt is the enemy of Magic; you cannotrisk tempting doubt.

Instead of telling your friends you are‘doing magic’, wait until they ask. When they see the upturn in your life, they will want to know where it hascome from. Quite possibly, they will askyou to teach them what you know. Thatis the point at which you can think about

Page 54: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

recommending this book to your friends!

Page 55: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

BUT HOW DOES ALL THIS FITWITH A SCIENTIFIC WORLD-VIEW?

I think it’s hilarious the way that somepeople will reject these books asunscientific. Others try hard to showhow the Law of Attraction fits withquantum physics. That’s all fine. I willbe delighted if someone manages toshow that Magic fits with science, butthat won’t validate its efficacy in anyway.

Page 57: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Is Magic unscientific? I don’t care twohoots one way or the other. I have nodesire to make what I do fit with ascientific worldview. I don’t give aflying fig whether it does or doesn’t fitwith quantum physics or Newton’s laws.(Incidentally, did you know that quantumphysics doesn’t fit with Newton’sLaws?) It works. And it works, whetheror not it fits with Science, Christianity,Judaism, or anything else.

These days, I don’t bother defendingmyself or my views. I don’t care ifsomeone thinks this is all baloney. Thosewho seek to argue, prove me wrong ordismiss my views are less thanirrelevant to me. They are to be pitied –they will never know the joy, the power

Page 58: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

of what I can do, what you are about todo.

Dear reader, let me assure you that whatI am calling ‘Magic’ has taken me fromfat, lonely, anxious, depressed anddestitute, to living in a gorgeous houseon the coast, with a younger boyfriend,an almost unmanageably busy social life, more money than I know what to do withand almost constant happiness. If anyscientist wants to come and tell me that’sall rubbish because it’s unscientific, I’mjust not interested.

Are my beautiful house, my lovelypartner and all my friends going to puff

Page 59: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

into smoke because someone ‘proves’ tome that what I have been doing isunscientific? Am I going to stop doingwhat has brought me all these thingsbecause someone who doesn’t evenknow me thinks they have a superiorintellect and tries to show how wrong Iam? I think not.

But how does it work?

Do you want to know the truth? I don’tknow. That’s precisely why I call itMAGIC!

Page 60: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

ARE YOU PUT OFF BY THESELFISHNESS AND MATERIALISTIC

NATURE OF ALL OF THIS?

If you think that using Magic is anindication of a selfish and materialisticnature, you are completely wrong. Doyou know just how much good you cando when you have more money, time andfreedom than you know what to do with?I give a large proportion of my incomeaway every month. I do loads of charityand voluntary work, because I have themoney and the freedom to do so. If I getgood service in a coffee shop, I leave a$50 tip. If I hear that a local child needs

Page 61: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

a special operation their parents can’tafford, I arrange for money to be sent, anonymously. I do 100% more good as arich person than I ever did as a poorperson!

You may be interested to know that thesebooks were only written in order toraise money for a particular worthycause. I have vowed never to make apenny for myself from teaching Magic toothers. I make enough money from othersources not to have to do that. I supposeit’s a strange superstition of mine, but Ifeel that if I make money from teachingother people how to make money, I ambeing dishonest. There is a sort ofconflict of interests within me whichdoesn’t sit well in my conscience. So

Page 62: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

THE STEPS TO ACHIEVINGANYTHING

1. ASK

2. RECEIVE

Yes, that’s it.

‘Yeah right,’ you say, ‘I ask for things allthe time, but I hardly ever receive them.’

So why doesn’t it work?

Page 65: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

The main thrust of this little book is toprepare you for the process of askingand receiving so that it works! If there isone ‘secret’, one ‘trick’, one underlyingprinciple that I want to get across to you,it is this: If you don’t get the receivingpart right, your asking is going toachieve precisely nothing. Becausehere’s the kicker: Successfullymanifesting is less about asking forthings, less about doing Magic andalmost entirely about receiving, in otherwords, becoming, allowing and beingMagic.

This is the piece of knowledge that willturn your manifestation attempts fromfloundering accidents into inspiredfantasies. It is this that will turn this

Page 66: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

process from difficult and confusing tofeeling like one big, fun game. Get thisright and you will see miracles appear inyour life.

LEARN HOW YOU GET IT WRONGSO THAT YOU CAN GET IT RIGHT

Let’s begin with our magicalpreparations. The first stage is to imparta little understanding and knowledge. Noone should ever take anything on faithalone which is why I want to spend alittle while explaining exactly whythings may have gone wrong for you inprevious attempts.

Page 69: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

I’m now going to say something whichverges on sacrilege in Law of Attractioncircles. This may seem to fly in the faceof all you have heard before from peoplesuch as Napoleon Hill, The Secret andothers. I don’t say this to becontroversial, but only because I believeit is right.

Forget all about ‘thoughtsbecome things’

You probably have heard from everybook out there that we need to take ourminds off what we don’t want and ontowhat we do want, so that the way tomanifest your desires is to think about

Page 70: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

them as often as possible. Thoughtsbecome things; we create our world withour thoughts, and so on.

In Napoleon Hill’s classic, Think andGrow Rich, he suggests you write yourgoal on a piece of paper and recite thewords several times a day. Other writerssuggest that you must develop focus andconcentration in order to manifest yourdesires. Lack of clarity of thought isoften cited as one of the main reasonsthat desires fail to manifest. So you mayhave been advised to think about yourgoal as often as possible, to readplacards to yourself, to visualize, doaffirmations, to flood your mind withideas about the goal.

Page 71: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

I’m telling you that’s all wrong.

Before you throw this book away indisgust, let me ask you some questionswhich should prove to you that I ammaking sense…

How many times have you triedvisualizing, thinking constantly aboutyour desire, and yet have nothingmaterialize.

How many times have you triedvisualizing, thinking constantly aboutyour desire only to have the oppositeappear in your life?

How many times have you expected aparticular event to turn out brilliantly, visualized it in perfect, intricate detail,

Page 72: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

only to have it turn out completelydifferently?

Have you also noticed that when youlook forward to a wonderful event, withhuge anticipation, having imagined everylast detail, it often disappoints?

When bad things do happen, do theyhappen when you have been thinkingabout them, or do they appear to comealong completely out of the blue?

We are told again and again that if weexpect things to turn out badly, they will.I have lost count of how many times Ihave been told not to talk of worst-casescenarios because in doing so I will‘make them happen’ and so court

Page 73: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

disaster. ‘Speak of the Devil and he willappear’, so the saying goes.

Just for a moment, I want you to forgetabout what you have been told, andforget about what is supposed to be true.

How many times has this actuallyhappened to you? How many times haveyou expected the very worst, and thenseen that same very worst case scenarioappear in your life?

Once? Never?

Have you instead noticed that byexpecting the worst, things almostalways turn out better than youexpected? I am willing to bet money thatwhen you have expected things to turn

Page 74: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

out very badly you have often beenpleasantly surprised by the actualoutcome. Perhaps you went to a party ina really bad mood, not expecting toenjoy yourself at all, but ended uphaving a really good time. Apresentation or meeting at work whichyou had worried about for weeks turnsout to be a total success. Or you didn’twant to watch a particular film, sure itwas going to be a massivedisappointment, only to find it wasexcellent. I also wager that when badthings have happened in your life, theyhave usually done so completely withoutwarning and not at all because you havebeen thinking about them.

How can this ever be true? How can any

Page 75: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

of these things possibly happen if theLaw of Attraction says you attract justwhat you think about, what you focus on?

These results would seem to suggest, contrary to all you have been told, thatthinking about bad things makes goodthings happen, and thinking about goodthings makes bad things happen?

What on earth is going on?

If you have experienced these sorts ofresults, don’t despair. Just because youhaven’t had any luck with ‘thoughtsbecome things’ don’t imagine the faultlies with you. Don’t assume thateveryone else is getting it right, and thatyou simply need to try harder, think

Page 76: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

harder, or concentrate more. My belief isthat most people get these sorts of‘anomalous’ results.

To explain this, let’s consider anotherexample - Have you ever found that thevery thing you have been tryingdesperately to manifest for months, yearseven, miraculously appears just whenyou had stopped even thinking about it,perhaps forgotten all about it, perhapseven once you had stopped wanting it?This is not misfortune and this is notcoincidence.

This happens because until that point youhad actually kept the goal just out ofreach by your constant attention to it. Byapplying ‘thoughts become things’, you

Page 77: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

prevented that goal from manifesting. Itwas only when you dropped yourattention that it was able to come to you.

But why does this happen?

It’s because, for almost all of us, whenyou think of something you really wantyou really want it. And here’s somethingyou need to burn into your brain: Want isanother word for lack. Thoughts ofwanting only attracts more wanting andmore lack. By continually thinking aboutyour goal, you are continually wanting, continually asking. This will act to‘freeze’ things, keeping you in a state ofconstant state of waiting, wanting, anticipation and lack.

Page 78: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Wanting = Asking = Lack

I am not claiming there is no truth tothoughts become things. I just find it avery strange instruction to give tobeginners. It is a strange instructionbecause it is not just discrete individualthoughts that become things, but ratherthe entire package, the entire person, thebeliefs, tendencies, energy, confidencelevels and actions that a person withthose thoughts will tend to carry out. Forbeginners, positive thoughts about goalsand desires are often in conflict oropposition to these other aspects of thatperson.

Remember, there are two parts to the

Page 79: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

magical process: asking and receiving. When the disparity between our thoughtsand the rest of our life is great, the actionof thinking about a goal only serves tobring more sharply into focus just howmuch we want and lack that goal. So formost people, keeping their goalconstantly in mind just keeps them stuckin the asking stage. This stops them everbeing able to progress to the receivingstage, and so, they never receive whatthey are asking for.

If you don’t stop asking for yourdesire,

you’ll never receive it

Page 80: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

I fully accept that there are some peoplewho are able to use the principle ofthoughts become things successfullyfrom the very beginning, without havingto study or experiment at all. In DoingMagic I outline one of the most effectivetechniques for manifesting anything andwhich is based on this very principle. But I certainly don’t recommend that youstart out by using it.

People who have a lot of success withthoughts become things are often thosewho already consider themselves tohave full and happy lives. For example,a person who is already financiallywealthy finds it very easy to focus onmoney without fear, or doubt or feelingsof lack. A person attracts money, not just

Page 81: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

because they one day decide to thinkabout a million dollars, but because thetype of person they are means they tendto think rich thoughts naturally.

On the other hand, a person who hasnothing cannot usually imagine havingmoney without simultaneouslycomparing it to how poor they reallyfeel.

I have met two or three people in my lifewho were immediately able to manifesta completely new life just by focusingclearly on the object of their desire. Ihave a few theories about why somepeople are able to do this. Largely, Ibelieve it is down to a sort of healthynaivety and a calm, uncluttered mind. I

Page 82: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

have noticed that those who are able touse thoughts become things off the bat,are those who don’t tend to questionthings, and who are verystraightforward, well-balanced people, are naturally able to let go of thinking oftheir desires, and so move effortlessly tothe second stage of the magical process.

If you (like me) have an active, questioning mind that just won’t shut upwith its incessant questioning, worryingand wondering, then you aren’t one ofthese people!

If you find it impossible to think of yourdesires without desperately wantingthem, then you aren’t one of thesepeople!

Page 83: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

If you haven’t had that sort of instantsuccess yet (and the fact you’re readingthis book tells me you probably haven’t)then you aren’t one of these people!

And if you are one of those incrediblylucky people born with the naturalability to do Magic, then put this bookdown and get on with your wonderfullife!

FROM DISAPPOINTMENT TODANGER –

WORKING ON YOUR BIGGESTGOALS CAN LEAD TO DISASTER

But now, I’m really going to shakethings up. There is a frightening truthabout using Magic: if you don’t get itright, a lot worse can happen other thanjust not getting what you want.

You have probably heard about the

Page 86: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

‘magic of thinking big’, that you canachieve anything, no matter how huge, ifyou set your mind to it. After all,Richard Branson and Donald Trumpdidn't get where they did by thinkingsmall.

Why let society, parents and negativemessages from the media keep youdown? You are going to go straight inand go for the biggest, shiniest goal onyour list. Nothing is going to stop youand you are going to keep going until youget it. After all, you deserve this huge, magnificent goal as much as anyone. Why shouldn't you go for it?

No reason whatsoever… just as long asyou are used to thinking this big, and

Page 87: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

used to reaching massive goals, takinghuge risks, doing scary things andachieving great successes. If this is alltrue then it is absolutely right that you gofor your massive goal straight away.

But, if you are currently not living ahuge, exciting, powerful life… if you arewondering how you will pay the rent, trying to hide the scuffs on your threeyear old shoes, unhappily single andforty pounds overweight, don't whateveryou do, go for your biggest goal first.

I don’t say this simply because youcould end up disappointed. Working onbig goals up front can be far moredangerous than merely failing to achievewhat you were looking for. At worst, it

Page 88: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

leads to your manifesting all your worst-case scenarios.

Let me ask you a question: Have youever tried to create a particularimportant goal using the Law ofAttraction only to manifest the exactopposite of what you asked for? Icertainly have.

For a long time, I had a habit of creatingreally quite horrifyingly opposite resultsto the ones I had been intending. Usually, this was nothing overly serious – asudden bill would arrive when I hadbeen trying to manifest money, I wouldtry to manifest a weight loss and put onweight (four weeks at Weightwatchersand I gained every week!) These sorts of

Page 89: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

results happened enough times for me tobecome more than disillusioned with theprocess. I actually became afraid of it! Ibecame afraid of working on goals atall, for fear of bringing bad things intomy life.

As we have seen, by constantly focusingon it, asking for it, and so wanting it, it’spossible to prevent a goal frommanifesting. But why on earth would theopposite manifest?

It is really quite simple. When you thinkabout wanting more money, you actuallytend to end up thinking about your stateof poverty. When you aim to lose weight, you end up focusing on how fat you lookand feel. In trying to change these things,

Page 90: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

you end up spending even more timethinking about things you don’t wantthan you normally would. Thinkingabout your dearest heart’s desire justhighlights how far away you are fromyour dream, showing up yourunsatisfactory life in depressing detail, making you feel that sense of lack evenmore keenly. You basically end upfocusing on exactly the opposite of whatyou are trying to manifest. So the Magicresponds and gives you exactly what youare thinking about.

IT GETS WORSE…

There is yet another type of unwantedsituation which can befall you when

Page 91: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

working on big goals too soon. This onecan be even more heart-breaking thanmanifesting the opposite.

One of the most terrifying things that canhappen to any new practitioner of Magicis what has been described by some as a‘snap-back’. This is the horrifyingexperience of having things go suddenlyand drastically wrong, just as youthought you had turned a corner. Thesnap-back tends to happen when afantastic, life-changing manifestationoccurs. You may have apparentlymanifested the perfect mate, a huge sumof money, or a dream job. All seemswell with the world. You have done it –you have manifested something fromyour wildest dreams.

Page 92: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

But then… it all comes crashing down. You find your new soul mate in bed withyour best friend; a huge and unexpectedbill wipes out all your new-foundmoney; the company who offered you thedream job goes bust, just as you havegiven in notice at your old company.

Has something similarly frighteninghappened to you? Has it happened somany times that you have begun to fearthe whole manifestation process? Youshould be afraid, because this turn ofevents is no coincidence. The snap-backhappens when you have unsuspectinglycarried out a perfect and momentary actof perfect Magic. You have cast theperfect spell, waved the magic wandHarry Potter-style and the object of your

Page 93: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

desires has appeared. But, as Spidermansays, with great power comes greatresponsibility. If you are not ready toreceive the manifestation, it won’t stickaround!

Let me repeat that in a different way: ifyou have worked a piece of Magic buthave not worked sufficiently on you, onturning yourself into the person that canhandle the manifestation, a person thatfits that goal, then you will lose it.

This is why some lottery winners oftenlose all their money a couple of yearsafter the initial win. It’s because theydon’t have the rest of the life to match it.They don’t have a millionaire mind-set,a millionaire way of doing things and

Page 94: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

their non-millionaire friends becomegreedy and resentful. So, the snap-backoccurs, life reflects the person, not thedesire, and the money is lost.

So, to recap this important point:

If you manifest a huge sum of money, buton a background of feeling unworthy, acting poor, dressing, acting, believing, thinking like a poor person, you willlose all your money.

If you manifest a perfect partner, but youdon’t feel attractive, feel unlovable andunworthy, if you have not allocated timeand space in your life for such a person, they will leave you.

If you manifest any wonderful bit of

Page 95: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

good fortune, despite a background ofworry, complaining, poor beliefs andnegativity, it will leave you!

If you go in ‘too high’ with your initialmanifestations, the rest of your personjust won’t be in agreement with yournew-found fortune, and the snap-backwill occur, reliably and spectacularly.

If you aren’t ready, you will lose it,every time.

The ironic thing is that the opposite isalso true. This is why rich and‘fortunate’ people are able to bounceback so quickly from misfortune. Theirmind-set is so positive that little bits ofmisfortune will tend to be followed by

Page 96: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

an equal or greater bit of fortune. This isthe main reason the rich get richer andthe poor get poorer. ‘Bad’ things stillhappen to the most magical people, butbecause their background state is set topositivity, luck and fortune, thesemishaps are nothing but minor blips inan otherwise perfect life.

I hope by now you are becomingconvinced: if you are not already able tomanifest at will and with ease, youshould forget all about thoughts becomethings for now.

In fact, in the early days, I suggest youdon't work on particular desires orgoals at all, not even small ones.

Page 97: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

You may reply: ‘Forget about thoughtsbecome things and don’t work onspecific goals? What sort of system isthis? A useless one! What’s the point?’

Let me make this clear: if you are settingout to manifest a particular thing, personor situation in your life, you had betterbe damned good at it. If not, chances areit will go spectacularly wrong. By goingfor your number one goal before you areready to receive, you court completedisaster.

What’s worse, every time you make amistake, you will do immense harm toyour belief in your own ability. And ifyou don’t believe, you can’t do Magic.

Page 98: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

If you ever want to be really proficientin creating the life you desire, you mustlay the preparation and become Magicbefore you can do Magic. Magic is notsomething separate from you; it is notsomething you do. Magic is somethingyou are. So it is imperative you start outby getting you right, preparing andgetting a sense of your own inner power, before moving on to manifesting anyspecific goals. Become Magic, and yourlife will change in the most amazingways. You will avoid snap-backs andmistakes. The process of manifestationwill become effortless and you truly willbe able to make a life of joy and wonder.

This approach may be hard to swallowfor someone who has been seduced by

Page 99: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

the lure of other Law of Attractionwriters, by those who are desperate tochange their lives, now. But notice that Idid not say you couldn’t begin changingyour life immediately for the better. Ionly advise you not to work onparticular goals yet. It is perfectlypossible to experience profound andwonderful changes in your life, by doingnothing other than following thepreparation advice in this book. Youmay even find that having seen theseresults, you no longer feel the need towork on your goals at all, and wouldrather let life play out as one big game, full of surprises.

If you insist, you can fight to make yourbiggest goals manifest immediately and

Page 100: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

risk getting the same sorts of results asyou have until now (or worse) … or youcan learn patience, work on yourself, letthings take as long as they need, andwatch your life begin to change withouteffort in miraculous and fantasticalways. Your choice.

The remainder of this book is dedicatedto showing you how to start going aboutbecoming a truly magical person. Whenyou become proficient enough to moveon to Doing Magic, and to startdeliberate creation, you’ll find yourmanifestation attempts work smoothly, quickly, powerfully.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Page 101: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Before we move on, it is important torealize that not every snap-back is a truesnap-back. When making big changes inyour life, be prepared for a bit of ashake-up. Changes are afoot, and odd, drastic and unforeseen things are to beexpected here. So, even if an apparentsnap-back does befall you, refuse to seeit as a bad thing. A snap-back can beseen as evidence that something ishappening, something is changing, fast.So fast that you can’t keep up. So takesnap-backs in your stride, recognize thatthey are evidence of your own magicalpower, and keep going. Every ‘disaster’contains the seed of somethingwonderful and who knows whether thatapparent disaster is a stepping stone to

Page 102: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

success?

How can you tell if it is a snap-back or astepping stone to something morewonderful?

You can’t.

So just choose to view them all asstepping stones. And remember, even agenuine snap-back is a sort of steppingstone in itself – leading you to a greaterand better understanding of the process.Keep this sort of attitude up and before

Page 103: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

long they will all be stepping stones.

HOW TO MAKE IT WORK

Without adequate preparation, withoutworking on you, your results are goingto remain disappointing. You can askuntil you are blue in the face, but if youcontinue to ask before having got youright, you might as well save yourbreath.

Let’s look at an analogy: How do yourun a marathon? It’s really very

Page 106: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

straightforward: just keep your eye onthe finish line, don’t stop running, drinkyour electrolytes as you go, andremember to breathe. That’s whatmarathon runners do. So that is what weall must do in order to run a marathon, yes?

Well, yes, this is true. This is whatmarathon runners do when running amarathon. So why would a newcomer torunning find these simple instructions sodifficult to stick to? It’s because theyhaven’t worked on themselves. Themarathon runner doesn’t just follow theinstructions on how to run a race. Theyhave to train for months and monthsbeforehand. They have to prepare, physically, mentally and emotionally

Page 107: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

beforehand. They know there is a lotmore to running than just putting one footin front of the other. It’s exactly the samewith Magic.

I’m going to come clean: this bookcontains no instructions on how to doMagic or ask for what you want. None!

Remember, this is a course in Magic. The reason I separated the two shortbooks into separate volumes is not ‘tomake more money’. I would actuallyprobably make more money if Ipublished both books in one volume. No,I separated the parts so that you wouldbe forced to read them, one at a timeand hopefully in the right order.

Page 108: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

This is part one Becoming Magic. It isnot called Doing Magic, with goodreason. It’s not possible to do Magic onthe world. You must become that whichyou want to be first and let the worldfollow in your tracks. This means no onecan successfully, consistently andintentionally do Magic until they havebecome Magic. And here’s the reallyexciting thing about this – you don’t haveto work hard to change the world. Theonly thing you have to change is you …and watch the world follow.

What sort of person are you? What areyour beliefs, what are your predominantthoughts? Are you generally happy, butoften moody? Easily upset, a bit of aworrier. Work hard but unorganized. Are

Page 109: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

your thoughts a bit all-over-the place? Now look at your life. Is it full of thingsthat make you worry? A bit unorganized? Are your results all-over-the-place?

Your world faithfully and accuratelyreflects, not what you have put in anorder for, not what you have correctlyand clearly asked for, but the person youare!

Most of you even now, will skip straightto book two, Doing Magic and begin theasking phase of Magic, even though Ihave written this entire book telling youof the pitfalls of asking before you areready.

Don’t be that person.

HOW TO PREPARE ADEQUATELYFOR ASKING

1. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

Pick a day to start your new life. It is agood idea to mark this out in some way,a ceremonial way. You may stage a littleritual of your own at home, write down adeclaration on paper and sign in. Or youcan make your declaration, semi-publicly to me by sending me an email ofyour declared intention to begin your

Page 112: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

new life. [email protected]

We have all heard this so many times ithas almost become a cliché but you musttake responsibility for your own life. And when I say take responsibility, Imean really take responsibility.

Don’t pay lip service to this step. It isessential.

Whenever I am emailed with questions, almost all are along the lines of I didthis precise thing but nothinghappened, why didn’t it work? Or: Ihad this funny feeling and thishappened, and then I thought this thisand this, is it working? Or: I did what

Page 113: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

you said but I didn’t get my goal, I needsome help. And my answer to all ofthese sorts of questions?

I CAN’T DO THIS FOR YOU.

This is one fact that you need to burninto your brain – I can’t do this for you!Much of learning how to do Magic isabout discovering, feeling, noticing, noting, realizing, sensing, coming toknow, and very little about being told. The answer to almost all of yourquestions will come, not from being tolda new piece of information, but from anexperience of your own, a realizationyou have, seeing the truth of something, watching something work in your ownlife.

Page 114: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Mastering Magic is about personalexperience and experimentation, aboutfeeling things for yourself, about getting‘a sense’ of what I am saying. No matterhow many times I tell you something, orin whatever language I put it, until youhave experienced it for yourself, mywords will mean squat.

Notice, learn, record

If you spend your weekends sitting inpajamas, watching daytime television, eating junk food and wishing the phonewould ring, and wondering ‘where allthe good men have gone’, don’t besurprised when you don’t get the resultsyou want.

Page 115: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

If you do a visualization or ritual, set anintention and then get angry when itdoesn’t manifest immediately, or blamethe writer of the book or the creator ofthe system, don’t be surprised when youdidn’t get the results you wanted.

If you think that my saying ‘I can’t dothis for you’ is just a way of absolvingmyself of my own duties to you thendon’t be surprised when you don’t getthe results you want.

Understand that I am less of a teacherand more of a signpost. It is totally up toyou to take the steps. It is totally up toyou to make this work. A bad workmanblames his tools. A bad student blamesher teacher. A good student of Magic

Page 116: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

blames no one, learns from theexperience, and moves on.

2. CLEAR AWAY THE DROSSSTOP COMPLAINING, FULL STOP

Complaining, worrying and moaning areendemic in almost every advancedsociety in the world. I have travelled allaround this big world, and visitedpeople from all backgrounds and allcultures. Complaining and focusing onthe negative at the expense of thepositive is prevalent in every society. However, I have also noticed somethingelse: there is a very clear correlationbetween those who are very happy andan almost non-existent level of

Page 117: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

complaining. It bemuses me that therehas never been any real scientificresearch done into this correlation. Those who complain a lot, generallyhave lives that are poorer in all waysthan those who do not complain. Thosewho do not complain, generally havefuller, richer and happier lives. And, Iam not talking of material riches here.Money is only one small part of what itmeans to have wealth.

‘That’s obvious!’ you reply. ‘Those witha lot have nothing to complain about. Ifyou knew what I had to contend with, you’d know why I complain!’

I want you to consider the possibilitythat this way of interpreting things is

Page 118: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

completely backwards. I want you toaccept on faith for now, (and eventuallycome to believe completely) that somepeople have a lot precisely because theydon’t complain.

Conversely, it is complaining that keepsyou in a state of wanting. You canfaithfully follow the steps of amanifestation procedure, but if you arewalking around in a terrible mood, complaining about everything on earth, bemoaning your lot in life, angry andjealous about why your life didn’t turnout the way you wanted, nothing willever turn out well for you.

Complaining just invites more into yourlife to complain about because

Page 119: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

complaining means wanting things to bedifferent.

And wanting is the opposite of having.

So, the very first phase in the magicalprocess is to clear away the dross, thenegativity, the complaining, the moaning, the worrying, the seeing everything in abad light, the thinking of the worst, thetelling of a bleak and bitter story of life.Kick your complaining addiction. Whyaddiction? Because complaining is adifficult habit to break and it will take agood deal of effort for you to eradicate itfrom your life.

Once the habit is kicked, and you haveexperienced life from this peaceful new

Page 120: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

place, you will come to realize and feelthe effect that complaining has on you, mentally and physically. It will no longerfeel ‘right’ to complain and you will feeluncomfortable indulging it. When I nowmeet a person who complains a lot, itphysically pains me. I feel a sinkingsensation, my anxiety raises and I beginto feel really, really uncomfortable. Inthis situation, I usually do my best toextricate myself from that person andtheir energy as soon as possible.

You have probably heard the virtues ofpositive thinking. But rather than tryingto think positively, it is much easier andmore effective when starting out simplyto stop thinking negatively.

So stop complaining. No exceptions. This does not mean lying down andtaking whatever life throws at you likesome sort of doormat. Neither does itmean eating a cold meal in a restaurantbecause you feel you mustn’t complain.Complaints to a specific and relevantperson in order to bring about a changeof affairs are obviously permitted. Whatisn’t allowed is complaining for the sakeof complaining – talking in a negativeway about something for fun, to gossipabout someone in a derogatory way, topass the time of day, or worse, to makeyou feel better, more important or as away of connecting with another negativeperson.

Compare: My food is cold; please bring

Page 122: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

me a fresh meal.

With: I had the worst meal ever lastnight. The food was stone cold. I’mnever going back to that place. What awaste of money. It’s hard enoughcoping on my salary without havingthis sort of thing happen. But that’s mylife. Nothing good ever happens to me.

The instruction to stop complainingincludes bemoaning the state of theworld, society, the government and ‘justhow bad things are these days’. I alsosuggest you stop reading newspapers, watching the news, or reading gossipmagazines. Gossip magazines arelegalized bullying. They engender spite, resentment, jealously and represent some

Page 123: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

of the vilest and basest of humantendencies. And if you think it’s ok tobully, lie and gossip about celebritiesbecause they are rich, I suggest to workquickly to change that destructive belief– it isn’t helping you.

The world is addicted to negativity andthe media is largely responsible for this. Most people’s lives actually run fairlysmoothly and things tend to turn out forthe best. But you would think we wereon the brink of Armageddon, from all themessages of terror in the news.

Many people are shocked, evendisgusted that I refuse to readnewspapers. ‘But how will you knowwhat is going on in the world,’ they ask.

Page 124: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

I have many, many detailed argumentsabout why I don’t read newspapers. Fornow, I just want you to recognize thatnewspapers tell almost exclusively badnews. Most of them twist the truth to theextent that only lies are told (even by themore ‘respectable’ papers). And even ifa story is 100% true, it is almostcertainly a negative or fear-mongeringstory.

If you want to change the world, then goand change it. Do something, act. Orbetter still, become magically powerfuland realize just how much good you cando from this new place. But don’t evercomplain about the state of the world, oranything else, unless you are directlyworking to change it. Sharing a

Page 125: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Facebook status about the latestgovernment betrayal does nothing tochange that injustice. All it does ismomentarily make you feel important, while at the same time winding you up,lowering your energy and taking you onestep further away from your true magicalpower.

Don’t move on until you are inagreement with me on this. Trying toconsciously manifest important goalsbefore you have tackled your ownbackground levels of negativity isworthless.

3. PRACTISE GRATITUDE

Page 126: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Go to an art shop or bookshop and buy asmall notebook, one that will fit in yourhandbag, briefcase, rucksack or pocket.Try to buy something of quality, one thatlooks and feels of good quality.Paperblanks are a brand which makesome beautiful little hardback books or,you can buy a little Moleskin or similar.

Every morning you will take one page, put the date at the top and write downthree things for which you are grateful,in that moment. In the evening, beforebed, write down another three.

You can also jot down various times inthe day when something strikes you. Itcould be something tiny I am gratefulthat I got a seat on the bus this

Page 127: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

morning. I am grateful that Susan hadthat nice chat with me. I am gratefulthat my sandwich tasted so good today.Or, they can be much more profound andimportant things I am so grateful that Iam so fit and healthy. I am so gratefulfor my wonderful husband. I am sograteful to have two healthy children. Iam so grateful that I am becomingproficient in Magic.

Try to think of a different set every day.And when you do this, actually try andfeel the sense of gratitude.

If ‘gratitude’ doesn’t mean a great dealto you, then choose whatever words ringbetter with you. Rather than a ‘gratitudejournal’, consider an ‘I’m so happy’

Page 128: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

journal or a ‘how wonderful!’ journal. For example, how wonderful that I gota seat on the bus, I’m so happy thatSusan had a nice chat with me. Or, youcould mix it up. You could write downthings you are grateful for, happy aboutor just whatever makes you feel good. The point is not to get the words right, the point is to change your focus to allthe good that is in your life. Your energywill rise automatically and naturally justby this one move.

Don’t just write down the words, feel it.Don’t write down things that you feelyou ought to be grateful for, but aren’t.This process needs genuinely to evokethe emotion of gratitude, happiness orwonder.

Page 129: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

And don’t ever, ever miss this outbecause you can’t think of anythingpositive to say, or because you had a badday. If you can’t think of something thinkharder! There is always something goodyou can find to focus on.

At first, it will just feel like you aregoing through the motions. But by doingthis process repeatedly, you will gainmomentum quickly. Remember, theworld is but a reflection of you.

A person who notices a lot of good intheir life, has a lot of good in their life.A person who is grateful a lot, has a lotto be grateful for. It works that wayaround. Look at the world and smile, andit will smile back at you.

Page 130: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

4. NOTICE THE GROWTH OF YOUROWN MAGICAL ABILITY

BELIEFS BECOME THINGS

Rather than mere thoughts, it is yourdeeply held beliefs which have thegreatest effect on your life. Your beliefswill inform your thoughts, producefeelings and actions based on thosebeliefs. So it is essential that you beginto believe in your own magical power. You need to believe in your own power, really believe it; not just wishfully thinkit. Not just say ‘I believe in myself’ insome sort of self-help sound bite-typeway, while inside part of you isdisagreeing.

Page 131: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

At present, you may feel so out ofcontrol that you don’t even know how itwould feel to be powerful. So how doyou create a belief in your own inherentmagical power from a place of apparentpowerlessness?

Slowly!

This is yet another reason for notworking on goals too quickly. Anyfailure in achieving a particular goalwill only dent your belief; we cannotrisk that. But, every success, no matterhow small, will grow your belief in yourown ability. Little tiny successes allbuild into a wonderful strong belief.

‘But isn’t it best to learn from

Page 132: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

mistakes?’

Sometimes, yes. But with Magic becausethe results are often spectacularly bad atfirst, you never get the chance to learnfrom them. Most people never movepast this stage. Poor or frighteningresults, or a snap-back come along tocrush that fresh new belief, you give up,and move on to the next thing, book, orapproach.

But by starting small, by doing nothingother than making some small changes inyourself, you will see modest butimmediate and solid results. From thereyou can build your belief and yourpower, slowly yes, but strongly andsurely. All the time, your power, belief

Page 133: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

and confidence will be growing. YourMagic will begin showing itself moreoften and before long, you will no longerneed proof. You will know it.

Slowly, steadily, surely, your belief inyour own magical power will grow. Andwhen belief in your own magical powergrows, your magical power grows! Thestronger your belief in your own power, the greater your magical ability.

Having worked hard for a few days(preferably weeks) to eradicate the bulkof your negativity, you start noticing theeffect of doing this. Notice, accept andbelieve that small changes in you doindeed bring about a positive change inthe people, events and situations around

Page 134: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

you. See the world, not as a separaterealm over which you have greater orlesser effect, but as a mirror, reflectingnot just your thoughts, but you.

Notice that when you smile, the worldsmiles back at you, in every way.Expecting the world to change, withoutchanging you is like looking into amirror and expecting the reflection tosmile first. The world simply will neverchange, until you change. Begin torealize that your experience of life isnothing but a reflection of the person youare.

Are you beginning to notice the way thatlittle things seem to be turning out for thebest? Have you noticed that things

Page 135: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

generally don’t turn out as badly as youperhaps expected? Have any small bitsof good fortune started to come yourway? Are you generally feeling morepositive, optimistic, happier, lighter? This is the first point at which you mayactually start to feel the first inkling thatyou have an inner power that can affectthe circumstances and world around you.

This is a crucial point.

It is at this point that things can go one oftwo ways: The wrong way to go is tostart explaining away your little bits ofgood fortune as fluke or coincidence.

The right way to go is to go too far in theother direction, describing everything

Page 136: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

that happens in terms of your ownpower. See every tiny innocuouslyfortuitous event as part of the samepicture, as evidence of your effect on theworld. Even apparently ‘bad’ things canbe viewed merely as necessary steppingstones on the way to somethingwonderful.

You will then automatically beginlooking for more instances of this newfound ability to affect the world.Everything that happens will serve toincrease your belief, and you will bewell on your way to becoming trulyMagic and adept at creating your ownlife.

Want to be all powerful, capable of great

Page 137: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

Magic? Then just decide to be so.Having trouble with holding that beliefimmediately? Then start looking forevidence that it is true. If you look forlittle bits of evidence, you will findthem. You see, it really doesn’t matterhow you get to that belief. It doesn’tmatter how unlikely or flimsy theevidence. Just choose to interpreteverything in the way that supports yourbelief.

Becoming Magic is not about learningsomething new. It is about turning yourfocus inwards and noticing what wasalready there. It has always been thecase that your life reflects your beliefs, but perhaps you have never noticed ituntil now. By coming to see the actual

Page 138: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

occasions in your own life where this ishappening, you become aware of thepower that was always there. You needto really see for yourself the actualeffect of your actual efforts. You need tosee irrefutable evidence with your owneyes.

Remember, you are highly unlikely toget to this sort of strong belief in yourown power when trying to manifest biggoals up front. The chances of thingsgoing wrong are just too great. So,before you think of moving on to askingyou must be fully prepared. Pick a day tomake your declaration, and then committo the following vital preparations.

1. Take responsibility for your life

Page 139: Becoming Magic: A Course in Manifesting an Exceptional Life (Book 1)

2. Stop complaining/moaning/criticizing

3. Keep a gratitude journal

4. Be aware of the results

Do this for at least two weeks or untilyou begin to notice the effect this ishaving on your outlook, your mood andon your life circumstances. If you prefer, you can keep this up for 30-60 days, bywhich time it will have become a habitthat has transformed your life inincredible ways.
