Lately everyone seems to be talking about collaboration but to Samaritan — founded 44 years ago when three local congregations came together around behavioral health needs in our community —collaboration is more than a buzzword; it is who we are. We are part of a number of collaborations and this year we are proud to share a few with you. To the left, you see listed our Partners in Ministry as well as our Board of Directors. Both groups are key to the long-term success of Samaritan. Inside you will read about long standing collaborations such as our Silent Samaritans Breakfast, Care to Go and Community Education Programs as well as newer initiatives to grow young leaders and promote clergy wellness. The collaboration I am most humbled by is the one with you, our supporters. Together we provided $524,520 of subsidized care to 359 people. This translates into an average $1,462 of care per person or the equivalent of ten counseling sessions at no charge. More importantly it translates into changed lives. Thank you for your compassionate support of our mission, and thank you for your collaboration!

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, #Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are designed to begin the holiday shopping season. Celebrated this year on Tuesday, December 2, #GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages philanthropy to kick off the holiday season.

Samaritan has secured a total of $11,000 in matching grants. Each new donation dollar will be matched, giving us the potential to raise $22,000 this holiday season.

Dear Friends,

Samaritan Interfaith exists because three congregations saw a need for highquality affordable behavioral health care, which valued the role of faith in healing. I am certain they saw the beauty in their dream, but I wonder if they ever envisioned that Samaritan would:

• provide over $502,355 in fee assistance in a single year. • provide over 14,600 hours of counseling to 1,600 children, adolescents,

adults and seniors, and see on average 700 new intakes per year. • provide a wide range of consulting services to congregations throughout the

Chicago land area, connecting with approximately 166 congregations.

This year we have many new beginnings to celebrate. We offered education on Innovative Ministry, and SelfCare. We hosted Clergy Support Groups and Transition Workshops. Our thriving counseling practice made it necessary to hire five new therapists and our consulting practice through the work of the Samaritan Center for Congregations continues to flourish (turn the page to learn about their new tools).

This annual report also highlights a new location, new programs, and a new collaboration. Despite all these new beginnings the one thing that hasn’t changed is our continuing belief in the beauty of providing hope to those who need it most. The other constant has been the support we receive from individuals, congregations and our community. Together we are providing new beginnings to children, adolescents, adults, seniors, congregations and their leadership.

Behavioral health providers usually assume that those needing care will come to them. Yet, many people do not have the ability or resources to do so. Samaritan’s CARE To Go Program is a unique collaboration that provides on-site mental health care for clients at Loaves and Fishes Community Services andHesed House at no cost.

Advocate Health Care and the

Prairie Association of the

United Church of Christ

collaborated to provide

a clergy wellness retreat

and follow-up sessions.

We greatly appreciate the collaborative spirit of our funding partner, Lilly Endowment, Inc.

Funds from the Endowment are used to support the Samaritan Center for Congregations.

The Indianapolis Center for Congregations created an online

resource database for pastors, staff and lay leaders to access information about

thousands of resources. This unique online tool can be accessed at thecrg.org

We are pleased to share such a comprehensive resource and hope that it is being

well used by our leaders.
