Well done to Mrs Flook for her organisation of the event. People will have appreciated the clarity of our new sound system which was purchased with funds raised at the Belair Spring Fair. Car Parks ~ Staff Only Once again we would like to remind our parents and community that school car parks are for staff only. It is extremely dangerous for vehicles other than delivery trucks to enter our school grounds before, during and after school hours. We realise parking on the streets can be a challenge but parents need to allow extra time in the morning and afternoon to find a suitable park for drop off and pick-ups. P&C Meeting ~ Wednesday 21 November 7pm At tomorrow’s meeting the P&C will be considering community feedback which will shape the nature of the P&C into the future. If you would like to be a part of this discussion, please come along at 7.00pm. GATS Policy Sharing Last term an interested group of parents reviewed and responded to our draft revised policy for meeting the needs of Gifted and Talented students. The policy has been finalised and strategies embedded. Parents are invited to meet next Tuesday 27 November in the Library to view the final policy and also discuss proposed strategies planned for implementation in 2019. School Sport Proposed Changes In Term 2 our Stage 2 and 3 students had the opportunity to participate in a non-competitive interschool sporting program. The school plans to be involved again in 2019 with the additional opportunity for some students to participate in the more competitive PSSA competition. Students will be asked to indicate as to whether they are interested in participating next year. There will be a standard cost per child for participation. Students not participating will engage in normal school sport. Student Recognition At each of our presentation assemblies, students are recognised for a variety of reasons. In 2018, whilst still maintaining a focus on academic excellence, we are placing a greater emphasis on the recognition of outstanding learning. This will be done by using our student data to analyse student growth in learning. Kinder Surprise – Surprise!!! One of our families has donated hundreds of “near date” Kinder Surprises (chocolate eggs with a toy inside). These will be given to students at home time on Friday with an instruction – not to be opened until at home. Parents not wishing their child to receive this gift, please let teachers know. Ingredients: Milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, skim milk powder, cocoa mass, soy and/or sunflower lecithin vanillin), skim milk powder, sugar, modified (vegetable, palm) fats, anhydrous milk fat, soy and / or sunflower lecithin, vanillin, 32% milk ingredients. Contains: milk, soy.

Preparations for Next Year We are currently in the process of organising class formations for next year. If you know that you won’t be back next year or if you have neighbours that will be attending Belair School next year, would you please contact the office in writing or phone 4952 1735. Afternoon Pick up Time We would like to remind parents that the end of day school bell rings at 2.55pm. If you are unable to collect your child at that time, would you please organise suitable alternatives for your child’s after school care.

Outstanding Excursion and Extra Curricular Payments

As we are entering the final few weeks of the 2018 school year, I urge all

parents to finalise outstanding payments for excursions, resource packs, sport, Band and Star Struck.

We urgently need to be reimbursed for these amounts to ensure a healthy bottom line is carried forward into 2019.

Outstanding invoices were sent home to parents recently.

If you still owe money to the school,

would you please finalise now!

Deputy Principal’s Message Well done to 2B who were noticed for their beautiful manners and listening skills at the K-2 assembly yesterday. 5K was once again chosen to sit on the seats at the 3-6 assembly and have consistently been noticed for the high standard of behaviour they display at daily lines. Congratulations 5K. This week, classes have had the opportunity to visit the art show at Kotara High School. Feedback from Year 6 who visited the show this morning was very positive. Belair Language of Resilience The focus for this week is the element of Control.

Anti-Bullying: Be an Upstander! Everyone being the same is boring! Respect others’ differences and help others to respect differences. It’s cool for people to be different – that’s what makes all of us unique. Have a wonderful week!

Kind regards

Sarah Jardine

Term 4 Key Dates Outdoor Classroom Day and Mini Fete: Friday 7th December at school ES1 Presentation Assembly: Tuesday 11th December at 9.30am in school hall ES1 Class Party: Tuesday 18th December at school All classes have been busy preparing for the Early Stage 1 Presentation Day assembly to be held in the school hall on Tuesday 11th December at 9.30am. We look forward to welcoming our kinder families to this special event to acknowledge the students’ positive first year at school. Kinder class parties will be held on Tuesday 18th December. Reading Groups and Home Readers Thursday 29th November will be our last day of formal reading groups for the year. Thank you to all our parent helpers and volunteers who have given up their time to assist our students throughout the year. Your support has been invaluable. Friday 7th December will be last day for home readers. Please return all home readers to your child’s teacher by this date. Students will continue to participate in the Stage 1 home reading program from early next year. Outdoor Classroom Day Early Stage One is holding an outdoor classroom day on Friday 7th December. Outdoor Classroom day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but it is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. We are seeking family volunteers to organise and run outdoor learning activities on the day from 10.00am to 12.00pm. We would love some to have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) focus. If you have any ideas for activities or would like to volunteer your knowledge, skills and expertise we would love to hear from you! Or you may simply like to volunteer your time and assist with one of the activities. Please contact Mrs Allars, Mrs Zervos or Mr Mort if you are interested in being involved. WANTED! Toys and Dress Ups Kindergarten Play Corners Do you have any toys or dress ups at home not being utilised anymore? Are they still in good condition? Kindergarten is looking to update their classroom play corners. If your children have out grown any toys or dress ups that are worthy of a second chance to shine, please drop them into any of our Kindergarten classrooms.

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming back our 2019 Kindergarten students and their families. The 3rd transition session will coincide with our parents’ information meeting to be held from 9.00am to 11.00am on Wednesday 28th November in the school hall. All parents and children are to meet at the school hall first with our Year 5 buddies escorting our new kinder students to the classrooms for a hat making craft activity.

Kindergarten 2019 First Day – Monday 4th February

2019 Kindergarten students’ first day at school will be Monday 4th February, not Friday 1st February as previously communicated. This is due to recent changes to the Best Start Assessment and recommended administration times. Therefore, Best Start assessments will take place on Wednesday 30th January, Thursday 31st January and Friday 1st February. Parents will receive further information at next week’s 3rd transition and parent information meeting in regards to Best Start bookings.

Uniform Shop Notification

Due to rising manufacturing costs, we will be increasing the prices of cotton jackets to $40 and cotton jumpers to $35 as of 1st January 2019.

The LAST issue for 2018 has been sent home. Orders are due by:

THIS FRIDAY – 23 NOVEMBER

The reason for an early cut of date is to minimise back orders and to enable any back orders to be filled prior to Christmas. The issue will be closed-off in LOOP after this date.

GIFT ORDERS

If you would like to purchase Christmas gifts from Book Club, there is a gift option in LOOP and you will be notified when your order can be collected.

Please put your phone number on the order form.

Belair Book Club Co-ordinator – Catherine Whittaker, 0414 945 817

PLEASE NOTE: from 2019, Book Club orders will ONLY BE AVAILABLE USING LOOP

What is LOOP?

LOOP is Scholastic Book Club’s “Linked Online Ordering & Payment” platform. This system allows parents to place and pay for their order without the need to return the paper

form to school. You can still choose to complete and form (and return it to school), and pay using credit card or cash for the rest of this year. However, the more people that

utilise LOOP the more efficient it is for everyone! With LOOP you can pay using credit card and you can use any Scholastic vouchers.

LOOP includes a gift option so you can still request that your order is left at the office to be collected.

You can access LOOP either at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or via the app (download from the App Store or Google play).

If you have any problems using LOOP, Scholastic are more than happy to help out parents directly – call them on 1800 021 233.
