Lost Property

NAIDOC Day wall hanging At the end of last year when we celebrated NAIDOC Day, every child in the school put their handprint on some canvas to create an amazing design. This is now a wall hanging and is proudly being displayed in the library. Such a beautiful piece of artwork.

Book Week Book Week has now been moved to term 4. We will be seeing a performance based on some of the books from the Children's Book Council shortlist for this year. The performance is called “The Greatest Discovery.” I am sure this will be a very enjoyable experience for all of us. Notes will come out in term 4.

Premier's Reading Challenge The final entry date for validation of Student Reading Records by students is Friday August 28. There have been a few chang-es this year to the Challenge. Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books, an increase from five. Please refer to the website for further information.

Lost property will now be displayed every day on a trolley outside the office. Office staff will go through what is left on the trolley every Wednesday. Items labelled with a name will be returned to your child’s classroom.

School uniform items without a name will be given to the Uniform Shop for re-sale. All other non-school related items will be do-nated to charity or disposed of. Please encourage your children to check the trolley regularly.

News From 1K

Yesterday 1K made popcorn. First we heated a fry pan. The popcorn heated up and the oil sizzled. We waited and waited. Next we heard a loud POP!

The kernel burst apart like a beautiful flower. The kernel exploded like a speeding meteor. It opened into a soft, ball of marshmallow. YUM! POP! POP! POP! POP! POP! POP! It smelt amazing like a movie theatre.

Coaches will be selecting teams based on the following criteria:

Sportsmanship Cooperation, attitude and listening skills Skill level and ability Commitment to training sessions and the team

If your child is selected to represent our school at PSSA please be aware that there is a cost involved and a strict uniform code.

Students who do not wish to participate in PSSA, or who are not selected in PSSA, may choose to play tennis or be part of our home school program. Year 3 students can also select Tennis as a sport option.

P & C News Playground and beautification projects update Thank you to all the lovely parents who attended our meeting last night. We have a wonderful group who represent kids across all year groups and both genders which we felt was important.

So far we have had site visits and received quotations from a variety of play equipment providers and playground designers. We have also applied for the Community Building Partnership Grant to support this project with funding and we look forward to hear-ing if we have been successful in late November.

We are very excited to announce that we have started receiving quotations for our new Wall Mural and Toilet Door Mural pro-jects! These fabulous initiatives are being led by Melanie Scott, Rebecca Keiller and Alison Thompson and they have wonderful ideas which will brighten and enliven areas in our school. The Toilet Door project will specifically focus on using the power of colour and positive reinforcement to enhance these spaces and is inspired by The School Toilet Project

We would like to thank Emma Burling for her work in applying for the Northern Beaches Council Arts and Creativity Grant this week. If we are successful in receiving funding in October we will be able to start that initiative.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th July and everyone is welcome to join!
