REPRESENTING OUR SCHOOL Belrose and our community would like to wish the students the best of luck at next week’s Zone carnival. We are sending our finest ath-letes to compete which is a mixture of some older veterans from carnivals of the past and plenty of fresh new faces making their first appearance in a school representative team. All students I know will give 100% and in the Belrose PS way, represent our school to the best of their ability. Mrs Meikle will be a marshal on the day and I will be chief judge. All students and families are asked to sit togeth-er near the Belrose flag and to see our parent manager, Mr Ehnbom who has kindly assisted us with the management of the Belrose PS team. We wish to thank again, Izzie’s father for training the relay team each week. Please refer to the photo of students who were not present at our last assembly.

OUR FINE MUSICIANS In the first week of Term 3, Elita participated in the State Band Program on the trombone. It is a 5 day, 5 night camp for talented musicians of AMEB 4 standard and above. You must apply and be accepted to attend. It was an amazing night and she repre-sented Belrose Public School with pride. There were students not only across NSW Public schools but Queensland as well. After the 5 days they put on a performance at Narrabeen Sports Academy. The standard was amazing. On Tuesday 8 August Mali and Elita represented the school at the Arts Alive Town Hall Choral Concert. They are part of an auditioned regional choir run by the government's arts alive program. The choir rehearse at our school on a Wednesday afternoon. TRIALS FOR PSSA AND TENNIS Tomorrow is the last day for PSSA Winter sport. For the following two Fridays, 31 August and 7 September, PSSA trials will be conducted for Girls Cricket, Boys’ Softball and T-ball. The tennis program will start again on Friday 14 September 2018.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY A consent form for parents/carers about the survey was sent home with students in years 4, 5 and 6. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by this Friday 24 August 2018. The survey will be conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during ICT lessons next week.

NAPLAN RESULTS We are still to be advised as to when NAPLAN results will be available. A future newsletter will indicate a snapshot of our results. Belinda Zorian Principal

Students of the Week

Congratulations to our Gold & Silver Recipients

STEWART HOUSE

A big thank you to all who participated in Onsie Day. We raised a fabulous amount of $428.50 for Stewart House.

Thank you for supporting this worthwhile cause.

Year 5 are studying a literacy text called 'Lennie the Legend' by Stephanie Ow-en Reeder. This text is set in the time of the Great Depression and is also the basis for our History program. We were wondering, if there are any Grandpar-ents/Great Grandparents in our school community, who might be interested in visiting our classes to share what life was like back in the Depression. In addi-tion, some family members may have historical artefacts of that time that they could also share with our classes.

Regards, Mrs Stephens and Mrs Killick Year 5 teachers

K-2 children once again thoroughly enjoyed their special sports day. With cheers of encouragement from the spectators, children all put in great efforts as they zoomed down the track in their grade races. After a picnic lunch the children all participated in a variety of fun group activities. The parachute games proved to be even more exciting this year with the strong wind filling the parachute ready for lift off!

Teachers were particularly impressed by the wonderful sportsmanship displayed throughout the day. House points were awarded for participation, places in grade races, behaviour and sportsmanship.

A big thank you to all the staff involved in making this day a great success, but particularly to Mrs Denver and Mrs Iwakura who were our chief organisers.

NSW Junior Chess League - Primary Schools Competition 2018 MET NORTH REGION: MANLY-WARRINGAH ZONE - ROOKIES GRADE

We won the League with 31.5 points. Belrose B came 2nd by half a point. Belrose A had a great season. Last year, we came second by 0.5 of a point, which was like Belrose B this year.

We versed the following schools: John Colet School C team Our Lady of Good Counsel A team Oxford Falls Grammar C team Belrose Public School B team

We versed 4 great teams and we were so lucky, because if we lost a game against Belrose B, we would’ve come second. The highlight of this season for us was afternoon tea and having a nice time playing chess.

By Nadia Y and Elliott F Belrose A team

“Mrs Stephens, we’ve got a result! Another win!” “These kids!” She says shaking her head with amazement. Right throughout Term 2 and part of Term 3, on a Friday afternoon, Belrose Public School Chess teams had been visiting different schools to represent our school in the State Schools Chess Competition. Our team, who included Adam T, Tim F, Alex C and the 3 brothers (Ethan, Xavier and me) played the best chess we could and we were thrilled, when Mrs Stephens announced that we’d come second to Belrose A by only 1/2 a point. Thank you to our brilliant coach, Mrs Stephens and to all our parents who both supported us and drove us to our competitions.
