KINDERGARTEN 2020 INFORMATION SESSIONS A SUCCESS We were particularly pleased with the successful turnout of more than 50 people at our two information sessions. Positive feedback received from our audience included: - experiencing our delightful singers and instrumentalists, - School Captains, Charli and Caelan’s personal reflections of their time at Belrose, - the parent perspective by Jo Stracey and Elise Cooper and the K to 6 perspective from our Assistant Principals, Mrs Green and Mr Davidson. Thank you Mums and Dads for your time with making the leadership team and performing children available and to Nicky, Caroline, Anne and Liz from admin who assisted me with the finer touches of celebrat-ing our school’s presence within the Warringah Community of Schools. Our Year 5 students, Mrs Jones and I will begin our Preschool visits in Term 3. If you have friends or neighbours that missed the Information night, please call the office for a school tour. Tours usually take 45 minutes. Our enthusiastic K-2 choir below:
PERSONALISED OR DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING AT BELROSE The art of teaching (pedagogy) comes in many forms. The gradual release and acceptance of responsibility from teacher to student, is one of many processes that we use at Belrose across a sequence of les-sons. The process is noted below: 1. Beginning with a modelled teaching approach, the teacher uses the metalanguage approach strategy with think-alouds, 2. Shared teaching of the learning process with the students, 3. Guided teaching as the teacher guides the students with complet-ing the process towards 4. Independency

Our teachers pride themselves on their ability to cater for the learning needs of every student within their classroom. Our quality teaching supports and scaffolds teaching/learning activities and also extend the students beyond the stage learning outcomes. To effectively differentiate, teachers may modify the content, the process of the teaching/learning and/or the product. These are explained: 1. The content is the subject matter, concepts, or themes. The differentiating content involves: - providing students with choices in order to add depth to learning - providing students with additional resources that match their levels of understanding. 2. The Process refers to how students make sense or understand the information, ideas and skills being studied. The differenti-ating process involves: - providing varied options at different levels of difficulty or based on differing student interests - offering different amounts of teacher and student support for a task - giving choices about how students express their understanding - varying the learning process depending upon how students learn. 3. The Product tends to be tangible, for example an informative text, a persuasive brochure, a speech or performance and re-flects student understanding. A differentiated product involves: - providing challenge or a variety and choice - giving students options about how to express required learning Next week, I will summarise our additional Enrichment/Gifted and Talented programs within the school. REMINDER ABOUT NAPLAN The NAPLAN tests for students in Years 3 and 5 will be conducted from next Tuesday to Thursday. All tests will take place in the morning and/or mid-morning sessions. All students will require a lead pencil and eraser. The duration of the tests vary depending on the year but not one test is longer than 60 minutes. In the Numeracy test, students do not require any measuring tools. JAPANESE DAY AND MOTHER’S DAY STALL Thank you to Mrs Iwakura for organising the Japanese Day for Year K to 3. The St Paul students, as part of their community of service visited our school and interacted superbly with our students. Thank you also to Silvana Lakic and the P&C for organising our Mother’s Day gifts. The students take great pride with choosing that special gift for Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Mums.

Mother’s Day Stall and our lovely mum volunteers
If you are in Years 3 to 6 and interested in playing chess please come along every second Friday morning. Chess will take place in my room, 5S every second week from 8.00am to 8.45am. From beginners to advanced. If you have a chess set please bring it along. Our chess mornings will be as follows:

Sport News PSSA SUMMER COMPETITION THIS WEEK
Cricket Belrose vs Forestville @ Wyatt Oval Softball & T-Ball Belrose vs Forestville @ Belrose PS SOFTBALL A On Friday 3 May we played against Killarney Heights. All our catching, hitting and running was on point. The score was 18-0 to Belrose. The player of the match was Olivia P for her amazing home run.
By Maddie S SOFTBALL B Wow! That was an awesome game. We played Killarney Heights and we won because the whole team did great team work. The player of the match was Lilli D and Toni K because they were amazing at pitching and they worked hard together. Go Belrose.
By Bridget L T-BALL A Last Friday we played a great game against Killarney Heights. The score was 18-3 to Belrose. We all played really well. Kate B hit really well when she had a clash with the third and she got up and played. The player of the match goes to Carina D be-cause she had a torn muscle in her hip but she still played a great game. Sahraa D played a great game also even though she got hit in the eye and kept on playing.
By Ruby S T-BALL B Last Friday we played against Killarney Heights and the score was 21-13. We won! Our passing was good and our strategies were very good. The players of the match were Saskia and Amber R. They worked very hard and were excellent at catching and getting people out. Great job Belrose, first win of the season.

By Owen L JUNIOR CRICKET Last Friday we played Killarney Heights. We won. The player of the match was Toby because he got one wicket and 21 runs.
By Mika WINTER SPORT PSSA trials for winter sport will be held on Friday 17 May and Friday 31 May 2019 (Week 3 and 5, Term 2). Our first round of competition will be held on Friday 7 June 2019. Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be able to trial for:
Netball – Boys & Girls –Mrs Meikle and Miss Jarvis (coaches) Soccer – Boys & Girls – Mrs Stephens (coach) AFL – Boys & Girls – Mrs Zorian and Mr Davidson (coaches)
In order to reach the selection criteria for these sports, students must attend at least one trial. If your child is going to be absent please notify the coach in writing as soon as possible. Please note that previous involvement in PSSA and participation in these sports outside of school will have no bearing on selection. Coaches will be selecting teams based on the following criteria:
Sportsmanship Cooperation, attitude and listening skills Skill level and ability Commitment to training sessions and the team
If your child is selected to represent our school at PSSA please be aware that there is a cost involved and a strict uniform code. Students who do not wish to participate in PSSA, or who are not selected in PSSA, may choose to play tennis or be part of our home school program. Good luck to all students during their trial sessions.

Remember with online volunteering it makes it easy for you to select the dates that are convenient for you. Your commitment is only for the term and dates you se-lect. Each term a new volunteer roster will commence. Volunteering in the canteen is super easy and the best part is, your child will love seeing you in the canteen. FEDERAL ELECTION BBQ & CAKE STALL – Sat-urday 18 May Here is the flyer for the Federal Election Day Cake Stall and BBQ. After the huge success of the State Election we are again calling on the school communi-ty for assistance. Cake boxes, trays and ingredient labels are available from the office, canteen and OOSH. As well as baked goods we are also in need volun-teers to man the BBQ and Cake Stall. Please see volunteer link below. They are only one hour time slots and your help would be very much appreciated. Remember that all fundraising from these stalls goes directly to our school. Please note any baked good donations can be dropped off at the canteen on the Friday 17 May from 8.30am or at After School Snacks.
