SDS vs Kalianna Tee-Ball Match
All had a wonderful time; at the SDS, vs Kalianna Tee-Ball match on Wednesday. Our team included a large
number of students who have not represented SDS before in Interschool Sports. They trained for a few days
before the big game and we saw a great improvement in their skills. Unfortunately, we did not bring home
the trophy, but we did bring home plenty of big smiles, great laughs, happy memories and new skills.
Education Week – 21st - 25th May
Education Week 2018 is all about celebrating the Arts and is an opportunity for schools and Early Childhood Services to display the work they are doing for students in Arts subjects including dance, drama, music, visual arts and media arts. Please refer to the program within this newsletter.
Mother’s Day Breakfast
It was wonderful to see so many mothers and grandmothers brave the cold and wet weather to enjoy a nice cooked breakfast with their child, in the staffroom, to celebrate all they do as mothers. A special thank-you to Rotary who braved the elements to cook outside and ensure all had plenty to eat.

Messages from Meg & Baxter TRANSITIONING STUDENTS AND PARENTS GATHERING Wednesday this week, we had a gathering of some of the parents/carers whose young people are exiting
school this year. It is a big undertaking when some of our students have been here for 12 years. We are also
dealing with a new NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme), which will fund our students’ afterschool
placements. It was great to have a past parent share her experience of transitioning last year. It is always
helpful to learn from others and each other. With many new agencies around, we are beginning to see we
have much more say into what we want our young people to be doing. I believe this parent group could really
do some great preparation to insure a great start to 2019. We introduced Kirsty Phillips, (Leading Teacher
responsible for Transition) and Meg Holmes, (Family Support Person). We are aware that it is impossible to
find a time that suits everyone, so we will set up an email group where information will be shared to all parents.
If you would like to be on this list, and were not present at the meeting, please call the office and let us know.
We are also inviting transitioning students 2019/20’s parents to attend if they would like a head start. We will
have another meeting this Term and hope to invite NDIS to speak to us as to how we involve post school
options into our plan. We will keep you informed in the newsletter, and please call Kirsty or Meg with any
other questions or ideas.
N D I S (National Disability Insurance Scheme) SUPPORT Please call the office and make a booking to chat to Sarah Chignell, our NDIS parent helper. Sarah is available
school hours Monday and well informed on many of the new procedures. If Monday does not work for you,
and you would like some support, call the office and we may be able to make another time.
