Benefits RD/Flex translates a flexible body from finite element analysis (FEA) software into RecurDyn. With the help of RD/Flex, you can: Efficiently include flexible components within your RecurDyn full-system model Investigate effects due to the flexibility in the system, including enhanced vibration analysis. Calculate more accurate loads in systems with path-dependent structures, for use in fracture or fatigue calculations. Features Extracts modal results (FEA linear dynamics) from various FEA software. Supports constraint (static correction) modes, due to unit displacement of boundary nodes, created by FEA software Beams and Plates Beams and plates are two flexible elements that can be created directly within RecurDyn Small strain, large displacement problems can be solved efficiently A library of common cross sections is provided to automate the calculation of beam properties. A series of beam elements can be efficiently using line mesh (supports straight lines, smooth curves, and discretized curves). Supports attachment (dynamic correction) modes Reduces errors identified during the simulation, created by RecurDyn These additional modes can overcome the limitations of the modal approach. Benefits• RD/Flex translates a flexible body from finite element analysis (FEA) software into RecurDyn.

• With the help of RD/Flex, you can:

• Efficiently include flexible components within your RecurDyn full-system model

• Investigate effects due to the flexibility in the system, including enhanced vibration analysis.

• Calculate more accurate loads in systems with path-dependent structures, for use in fracture or fatigue calculations.

Features • Extracts modal results (FEA linear dynamics)

from various FEA software.

• Supports constraint (static correction) modes, due to unit displacement of boundary nodes, created by FEA software

Beams and Plates• Beams and plates are two flexible

elements that can be created directly within RecurDyn

• Small strain, large displacement problems can be solved efficiently

• A library of common cross sections is provided to automate the calculation of beam properties.

• A series of beam elements can be efficiently using line mesh (supports straight lines, smooth curves, and discretized curves).

• Supports attachment (dynamic correction) modes

• Reduces errors identified during the simulation, created by RecurDyn

• These additional modes can overcome the limitations of the modal approach.

• Saves data in a neutral file that can be archived and reused.

Flexible Body Dynamics Solver • Flexible body dynamics uses mode shapes, eigenvalues

and additional data from the FEA software.

• RD/Flex uses modal superposition to calculate nodal deformations.

• Virtual bodies are introduced at each connection point without increase the degrees of freedom

• Flexible bodies can be used in other type of analysis such as static equilibrium and linear (vibration) analysis.

Results Evaluation • RD/Flex applies color to the exterior of flexible components to indicate the level of

nodal deformations.

• With colors you can observe the pattern of the deformation of each flexible body. You can also check the mode shapes that generated or imported.

• RD/Flex calculates strain and stress of deformedflexible bodies based upon nodal deformations. To perform a stress recovery, strain and stress shape functions are generated and results are obtained by superposition of these shapes. Stress calculationsare supported for models that are composed from variety of structural element types, including using different material properties and composite materials.
