Park Designation—Reserve, Passive Recreation Erie MetroParks acquired a warrantee deed 1987. Offering a panoramic view of Sandusky Bay and the Lake Erie Islands from the observation deck, the rugged, yet beautiful terrain of the quarry is home to about 240 species of native plants, including some that are rare or threatened. You will also find fossils that date back 400 million years and glacial grooves. Since quarry operations ended in 1965, this once barren site is retuning to a natural state.

Park Designation— Organized Recreation, Reserve, Passive Recreation. Erie MetroParks acquired a Quick Claim Deed 1991. This 26 acre park is located on an undisturbed Huron River flood plain. There are many beautiful trails to enjoy the Virginia Bluebells that cover the river bank in the early spring. The Coupling’s restored facilities may be reserved by the public and include two train cars, each equipped as bunk houses, and the Depot with a meeting room and kitchen. Canoeing and kayaking are also available here.

Park Designation— River Marsh Preserve, Passive Recreation Erie MetroParks entered into a 30 year lease agreement with the State of Ohio in 1997. The 114 acre preserve is one of the few remaining river marshes in Ohio. Adjoining the preserve, visitors can walk along a greenway, a linear park that features a multi-use trail constructed on an inactive railroad corridor and roadsides along the east bank of the Huron River.

With approx. 1,300 acres of sandstone cliffs, wetlands, woodlands, and meadows, Edison Woods is home to a variety of seasonal wildflowers, rare plants, amphibians and reptiles. Edison Woods MetroPark includes approx. 550 acres of wetland habitat and 400 acres of restored native grasslands. Features include 6 miles of wooded and prairie trails, the Adventure Walkway boardwalk and Geocaching. This is the only park where horseback riding is permitted. The horse trails are monitored by the Ohio Horseman’s Council.
