Grade 8 Boys Basketball

The grade 8 boys basketball team had a great year. After a couple of humbling

exhibition games where the boys were blown out, they worked hard and started to

play as a team. From that point on, the boys were competitive in every match, and

wound up with a very respectable 7-5 record overall. Mr. Hunter and Mr. Struch

thoroughly enjoyed watching the boys grow over the course of the season.

Congratulations on a great year!!

Thank you, Mr. Hunter and Mr. Struch - Coach

Grade 7 Boys Basketball

Congratulations to the Grade 7 Boys Basketball team on a fantastic season! They demonstrated

an amazing amount of hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship to each other, their opponents,

and the coaches. Mr. Bugera and Mr. Kozaczka are so proud of how well the boys represented

Bernie Wolfe at away games and in the Valley Gardens tournament in which they came in 4th

place! We hope to see you continue to practice and hone your skills in the off-season and wish

you the best next year. 3-2-1-BLAZERS!

Mr. Kozaczka

Grade 8 Girls Basketball

The Bernie Wolfe Grade 8 Girls Basketball Team had an amazing season this year. Since our first

practices in December, we are amazed at the progress they have made! The girls have shown

growth in their skill development, sportsmanship and team play throughout the season. The team

participated in 5 league mini-tournaments throughout January and February, and one weekend

tournament at John Henderson. We would like to thank the parents and guardians for all your

support as well as for helping to transport the girls to our games and tournaments! Finally, we would

like to thank our players for all their hard work this season as well as wish them luck with their future

athletic endeavours!

Mrs. McOmber & Ms. Matsumoto

Grade 7 Girls Basketball

This week marks the end of another great basketball season. The Grade 7 Girls Basketball

Team fought hard every game and did our school proud. Congratulations goes to Sanjunee for most

improved player; Crislie for her spirit and drive; Aiyana for her positive attitude and natural

leadership of the team; as well as the rest of the team consisting of Temmy, Alex, Nyantiop, Lea,

Matthy, Delaniey, Laura, Nola and Lexi. These girls showed sportsmanship in practice and in

games. These girls learned how to run an offense, rebound, pass, play amazing defense and even

how to set a screen. Although we started the season a bit late because of some early bye weeks, it

sure was nice to finish at home where we played our last games. Special thanks go to Mr. Gibbons,

Mr. Partaker and Ms. Mcfadzean who helped coach this year. Thanks girls for a special season

filled with fun!

Assembly Schedule

ATTENDANCE / CALL BACK

Parents are asked to please call the office, 204-958-6532, when your

child will be absent or late. No need to wait until the office is open; simply

leave a message on our answering machine, with your child’s full name, class

info and reason for absence. This will ensure that your child is accounted for

and therefore safe.

In an effort to be more environmentally responsible and eco-friendly, Bernie Wolfe has set up a Recycling Spot

We are collecting old eyeglasses, dried up markers, drink can tabs and batteries. The Recycling Spot is located in the main foyer next to the library.

Please feel free to drop off these items and we will make sure they get recycled appropriately.

Recycling Reminder We are trying to be cleaner recyclers at Bernie Wolfe.

We are reminding everyone that yogurt, jello, apple sauce and pudding containers are all recyclable and we would love to see them in our blue bins but we would also ask that you take a few minutes to rinse them out before they go in the bins. Food left in these containers becomes very stinky and

attracts unwanted pests.

Here are some other sites that provide good recycling information. http://www.simplyrecycle.ca

Unfortunately, in the month of January, our friend Mays passed away. She was a brave, kind, caring, ‘a-Mays-ing’ person. To honour her faith and beliefs, we decided to spread kindness and give charity in her name. We decided to raise money for two important charities: The Children’s Hospital and Islamic Relief Canada. We chose these charities because the Children’s Hospital helps sick kids in need and Islamic Relief Canada helps countries in need and those living in poverty. We decided to raise money by having a bake sale February 13th -16th. We are so thankful for all the people who came to support us, and to those who donated items to sell at our Bake Sale. We would also like to thank Mrs. Dram and Mrs. Meilleur who helped us raise even more money by making a special lunch for staff. We still have donations coming in, but we know we have raised over $1,250! We know that this money will go towards helping many people and making a difference in the world!

PAC NEWS

Parent Council just wanted to take a few moments to thank you for your continued support of

our pizza lunch fundraisers. So far we have used this year’s profits to pay for one bus for the grade

6 camp, reducing the cost per student. We also made a donation towards the grade 8 Farewell and

towards the band/music program. Any additional profits made each month are being saved for

playground upgrades that we are planning.

With that in mind, do you know a lot about grant applications? Do you know where we can

find grants that PAC can apply for to help assist with funding our playground upgrades? We need

help getting our playground project off the ground, and if this is something that you are interested in,

then we would love to have you on our team. PAC is always looking for new members! We gather

on the second Tuesday of every month in the family room and we would love to have you join us or

please email [email protected].

In addition to planning our playground upgrades, PAC is also going to be providing coffee and

cookies during student-led conferences. Come and say hi to us in the foyer. During April we will be

hosting Family Fun Night in the gym, and we will be sending home information about our next

fundraiser, Kernels! In May we will be hosting a staff appreciation lunch. The PAC fun never stops at

BWCS.
