PASTOR’S MESSAGE One of the greatest questions of the Bible is the response of Cain to an inquiry of the Lord: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Gen 4:9). When Cain murdered his brother Abel the Lord said, “I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?” The answer to this great question is a resounding, “Yes!”

This lesson teaches us that Cain’s attitude not only was wrong toward God, but it was wrong toward Abel, his brother, whom he murdered because the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering, but unto Cain and to his offering, he had no respect. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh (Heb 11:4). Abel knew he was responsible to God and to his fellow human!

Our special awardees have displayed not only an attitude of meeting the physical well being of so many, but they have in tangible ways sought to meet the spiritual needs especially of our boys and men through many community outreach efforts. They recognize that we are indeed our brother’s keeper not only in words but in deeds.

Amidst the many challenges facing our boys and young men — all is not lost. We thank God especially for the many who invest their time and money in assisting with the training and development of our boys and young men in particular.

Today, we are pleased to salute and thank Community Mission Pastor John W. Ferguson and Sir Durward Knowles for having a Shepherd’s Heart and making a difference in the lives of so many.

MESSAGE BY TRIAL DEACON LANFORD COX MEN’S MINISTRY DIRECTOR Am I my brother’s keeper? Genesis chapter 4 illustrates how Cain murdered his brother Abel. From this story we learnt that Abel’s offering showed that Cain was not giving his best to God, and Cain’s jealous anger drove him to murder.

In our society today, this act is being displayed on a daily basis whereby one’s life is taken. I will say sin is the blame and in order for us to overcome sin we must go to God to receive faith and strength. Root for not just for ourselves, but for other believers too.

Today, let us work together as believers so that God will be pleased with our offering and that others will be delivered from their sins!

JOHN WESLEY FERGUSON John Wesley Ferguson was born on the 1st July, 1955, to Bishop Cephas and Clothilda Ferguson, and is the first of nine children.

He attended Teacher Sands Pre-School, Woodcock Primary School, Western Senior School, Prince William High School and is a graduate of The F. B. I. National Academy in Virginia, USA.

He grew up in the inner city of Grant’s Town and spent his early childhood and early teenage years at Woods Alley, off Market Street, then known as Choke Neck Alley.

Driven by a deep passion for people and having a special love for under-privileged children, in September 1995, he organized The Big Harvest Community Sunday School at Woods Alley with 35 children. This non-profit entity which caters specifically to under-privileged children and at-risk youth now has an enrollment of over 400 and is growing. Many young men and women experienced a change in their lives as a result of this venture.

He is a minister in The Church of God of Prophecy. In his professional life he holds the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police in The Royal Bahamas Police Force and is the recipient of numerous awards.

He is married and the father of a son and daughter.
