BIFM Lancashire News Story BIFM Lancashire Members visit new Coop Headquarters. Members of the BIFM Lancashire Networking Group recently visited the new CoOperative Group headquarters in Manchester. The tour was organised by Martin Bolton, Service Development Manager at The Cooperative Estates Department and BIFM Member. The 400,0000 sq ft, 15 storey building is the first in the UK to be built to “BREEAM” outstanding designation and will be the centre piece of the 20 acre NOMA redevelopment in Manchester City Centre. BIFM Group attendees were shown around the building, which will start housing its first Coop employees from September 2012 and will eventually have 3,000 employees working there. Key features of the building is its use of natural heating, cooling and lighting and using biofuel and waste cooking oil through their new CHP system. Martin explained to the BIFM group that The Cooperative Group aim to save between 4060% of their current energy costs in their new head office complex. One impressive feature seen by the group was the central atrium of the building, which was large enough to house an Airbus A380! Several further events are planned by the group during 2012 including visits to the National Blood Service, Imperial War Museum and Mountain Rescue Base. BIFM Lancashire Members visit new Co‐op Headquarters. 

 

Members  of  the  BIFM  Lancashire  Networking  Group 

recently  visited  the  new  Co‐Operative  Group 

headquarters  in Manchester.  The  tour was  organised 

by  Martin  Bolton,  Service  Development  Manager  at 

The  Co‐operative  Estates  Department  and  BIFM 

Member.
