LaTasha Atcity/TNE - Whitney Reece, Westville junior, plans to participate in the Big Event, March 29. Reece, along with many members of the NSU community, will spend the day completing service projects in Tahlequah.

The Big Event is a community-wide service event across NSU and Tahlequah. Organizations and individual students get together to say thank you to the Tahlequah community by performing service projects. This year, the Big Event is March 29. Businesses and community members are encouraged to submit request forms for jobs that need to be done. The Big Event will accept the first 100 requests. Washing windows, raking leaves, interior or exterior painting, car wash and detail, garage cleanup and stuffing envelopes, are some of the jobs volunteers may complete.

Anyone who is part of the NSU campus is encouraged to register. The Big Event is an avenue for campus members to complete community service hours while paying it forward.“Big Event gives students a chance to giving back to the people who give to us,” said Anthony Woodall, Broken Arrow sophomore. “My fraternity is involved with Big Event, and I am always excited to pour myself into the community because I know that the city of Tahlequah gives a lot to this university.”Students who get involved with Big Event are able to help make a positive impact in the community and to show appreciation for the support received from the community. “The purpose of the event is to help the community understand we care about them as much as they do us,” said Whitney Reece, Westville junior. Reece said she personally loves Big Event and it is a good opportunity for her to influence the community while having fun with her friends. Taylor Eversole, OKC sophomore, said the Big Event is a way for NSU to give back to the public. She said it is really important for students to say thank you and show gratitude anyway they can to the Tahlequah businesses that support NSU and individual students. “My favorite part is building relationships with people involved with Big Event,” said Eversole. “Hearing their stories and seeing them open up is one aspect I enjoy from the event.”For more information or to register, click here.
