    Stacy McAleer joined Impact Training

in May 2012. Stacy was a Childcare

    student who successfully completed

her Level 2 Apprenticeship in Child

    Care. Stacy was a pleasant

conscientious girl that always tried her

    best.

    Stacy attended Forth Spring Inter

    Community Group, working with

    afterschool. She thoroughly enjoyed

her placement and was dedicated to

working with the staff and children.

Due to her hard work and enthusiasm

her employer offered her full time

work and the opportunity to progress

    onto Level 3 Apprenticeship which

she is currently working towards with

Workforce Training Services. Stacy McAleer (left) with Charlene Harris of Forth Spring Inter Community Group

Impact Training teamed up with the emergency services

and The Youth Justice Agency to deliver a dramatisation

of the aftermath of a serious road traffic collision entitled:

Too Old to Die too Young.

The demonstration illustrated how the emergency

services work together to deliver life saving medical

treatment whilst also safely removing the injured parties

    from the mangled wreckage.

Impact trainees Jenna Burgess and Hannah Bates took

part in the demonstration acting as the victims of the

crash whilst Adam Johnston played the role of the

    speeding driver.

The live demonstration was followed by a

discussion-led session by the Youth Justice

Agency and the emergency services. In this

session the trainees were able to discuss the

impact of the event and watch more clips on death-

    driving.

The purpose of the event was to give the trainees

a real life insight into the grave and sometimes

fatal consequences of irresponsible driving. The

demonstration hit home with a lot of our trainees

as some of them are currently doing their driving

lessons or have just recently passed their driving

    test.

When asked how she felt about her experience

Hannah said: It was a good experience and a real

eye opener to what can happen when speeding. I

will always think about it when I learn to drive

At the end of April nine Childcare trainees took

part in a residential at Ardaluin House in

Newcastle. As part of the trip the group were

involved in outdoor activities including canoeing

and forest walks but unfortunately bouldering

was cancelled due to the high tides at the time.

The trip was designed to enhance the groups

    teambuilding skills and increase their

    independence in turn enhancing their

    employability skills.

The group was accompanied by their Childcare

tutor Joanne Stewart and Niall Mowbray from

    Belfast Activity Centre.
