COURSE CONTENTA-Level: 3 examination papers and a coursework essay (4000 words)

Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of 100 and 200 year periods by presenting written arguments and evaluating and interpreting source material.

Subject material will include British History in the 20th Century, American Civil Rights and Witchcraft in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Students also complete an in-depth independent research enquiry on historical interpretations.

Applied BusinessQualification: AQA Level 3 Extended Certificate

COURSE CONTENTStudents will study our changing awareness of crime, criminological theories, from crime scene to courtroom, as well as crime and punishment The course is 50% coursework and 50% external exam.

Students will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of both our legal system and crime. This course would suit students who wish to pursue a career within the field of law, or students who wish to gain a greater understanding of society.

There are three examined units covering a combination of the above themes. All modules are examined by a written paper of 2 hours at the end of the course.

The course covers both macro and micro economics. Students will learn theoretical models and apply them to current economic trends. Students will be encouraged to develop a critical approach and understand disagreements that exist between economists. Students will acquire skills in quantitative methods, such as use of index numbers, statistical analysis and drawing graphs.

Film Studies Qualification: A Level

The assessment framework for mathematics consists of three examined papers, all of which carry 100 marks. These examinations are 2-hour papers and are worth 1/3 of the final qualification.

The course aims to encourage candidates to develop their understanding of Mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment.

Pure Mathematics can be best described as theoretical mathematics in an abstract or non-applied manner. As such it has a very high algebra content and good algebraic skills are therefore essential to be successful. Statistics involves the analysis and interpretation of data and takes the skills from GCSE to a much higher level. Mechanics has strong links with Physics, looking at forces and how they interact with objects.

Forensic Science Qualification: BTEC

COURSE CONTENT

A combination of internal and external assessment is used to determine the final grade.

This course gives an overview and insight into some of the techniques and tools used within Forensic Science. It also includes studying core sciences to underpin the specialist knowledge. You will study a range of units that may include genetics, forensic evidence collection and analysis, forensic fire investigation and chemistry.

The AQA A Level in Art & Design provides a variety of experiences that explore a range of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, processes and techniques. Students will develop their skills using both traditional

Photography Qualification: A Level

COURSE CONTENT

• Component 1: Personal Investigation (60% of A Level, internally assessed)

• Component 2: Externally-set Assignment (40% of A Level, externally assessed)

The AQA A Level in Photography provides a variety of experiences that explore a range of photographic media, processes and techniques. Students will learn how to use both traditional techniques and new technologies.

They will develop skills in portraiture, landscapes, still-life, fashion photography, experimental imagery, multimedia, photographic installation and moving image.

Students explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to Photography and a wider range of art and design, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples. This is integral to the investigating and making processes. Students’ responses to these examples will be shown through practical and critical activities that demonstrate theirunderstanding of different styles, genres and traditions.

Future courses & possible careersThis course will prepare you for an undergraduate degree course at University.

PE Qualification: A Level - AQA

COURSE CONTENT

• A Level: 2 examination papers and practical performance in physical activity and sport

Students will cover a variety of topics including: skill acquisition, sport and society, exercise psychology, biomechanical movement, sport physiology, sport psychology, sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport. Pupils will also be assessed in one practical activity as a performer or a coach, plus a written analysis of performance.

Future courses & possible careersThis course will prepare you for an undergraduate degree course at University in Sports Science, Sports Management, Healthcare, or Exercise and Health.

Careers could include:• Sports development• Sports coaching• Physiotherapy• Personal training
