Parish Council newsSlinky Bus responseYou may recall in a previous edition; a request was made to the residents of Bishops Hull to complete a questionnaire regarding the use of the Slinky Bus. As only one response was received the Parish Council will now close this matter and not pursue investigating extending this service, as there is not any demand for this.
Finger Post Restoration SchemeThe Parish Council are keen to find out if there is any local interest in getting involved in the Somerset County Council initiative to restore local finger posts? If you are interested please contact the Clerk (details on back page).
Actions• Members authorised £100 to purchase a retirement gift for Tim and Linda Pope in
recognition of their exceptional service to the Community over the years running the Village Butchers and Post Office.
• A new dog bin will be installed in Mountway road, near the cemetery.• The policy to determine the release of ringfenced CIL funds was adopted.• A budget of £320 was set to instruct a contractor to cut the countryside footpaths.
Next meeting dateThursday 8th November at 7.00pm, Frank Bond Centre, Mountway Road.
Environmental Health advice for dealing with ratsA report has been received from a local resident regarding an infestation of rats in the Parish. The matter is being dealt with by environmental health and the following advice is offered:
Rats will be attracted to a premises by food and water, shelter, household rubbish, uncontrolled compost heaps, and bird feeding. Refuse areas should be kept clean and containers fitted with tight lids. It is strongly recommended that if you have seen rats in your garden you stop feeding the wild birds.
Bishops Hull HubBishops Hull Autumn Apple Day at the Church Hall Saturday 13th October 10am – 2pmJoin us for our fun Autumn Apple Day. We will have several apple presses and a pasteuriser to make your own apple juice. Learn how to make your own apple juice, just bring your own apples (there will be apples for sale if needed) and clean empty bottles. We will be asking for a small donation to cover the cost of the equipment. There will be apple themed games for the kids, tea and cake as well as food provided by local establishments.
New Sports Pavilion After suffering a few delays recently in the completion schedule, we can now confirm the Pavilion is complete and has been handed over to the Trust. We are impressed by the quality of the build and its look on the field and expect it to be a very useful addition to the Community. We are already planning for the next phase of refurbishing the old pavilion and adding accessible public toilets. This will complement the new building and provide enhanced facilities. The build cost will be about £100K. We have full planning permission and hope to start soon after the completion of the new build, although we are still actively seeking more funding.

An invitation to all residents of Bishop’s HullBy popular demand and following the success of last year’s inaugural event, our village Christmas Party is back. The residents of Bishop’s Hull are invited to the Bishops Hull Christmas Party on Saturday 24th November 2018 at 7pm for 7:30pm in the Village Hall (Bishops Hull School). The object of the event is to bring people of all ages (over 18) who live in Bishop’s Hull, together at Christmas. This invitation naturally includes the friends and family of residents. This is not a fund raiser, however any profits that are made from the event will be divided equally between the proposed new Bishops Hull Hub project and the new Pavilion on the Village playing Field. This will be popular, so to avoid disappointment please buy your tickets early. Please note you will not be able to buy tickets on the door.
How to buy your ticketsIn person at the Bishops Hull Village Shop pay by cash, cheque or debit card
Directly from me (John Hunt) pay by cash or cheque or online bank transfer (please contact me for details – see below)
Online at BishopsHull.com/party pay by debit/credit card or PayPal
Here’s what to expect• A glass of Bucks Fizz or orange juice on arrival.• You’ll be seated on a table of 8 people and enjoy a cold buffet style two course meal.• There will be a bottle of white and red wine on each table.• Live music from amazing local band ‘Old Skool’, disco music will play when the band
are taking a break.• BYO (bring your own) drinks as there isn’t a bar, this will dramatically reduce the
overall cost.• If you’d like to sit together as a group, please email/text me.• Dress code is smart/casual.• Tickets are only £20 each for all of the above.
There will also be a separate quieter area for those that want to take a breather, have a chat and relax away from the main festivities. The band are a little quieter this year and will be playing popular music from the 60’s onwards. If you are not coming in a group or are on your own? No problem, you’ll be made very welcome and you’ll be seated on a table with other villagers. This is a fabulous opportunity to meet your neighbours and make some new friends. Don’t forget to bring some cash with you for the raffle. If anyone has a prize they’d like to donate for the raffle, or would like to sponsor the event (you’ll get a big ‘shout-out’ and plenty of publicity) please contact me.
VolunteersWe had some brilliant volunteers last year, helping with setting up the hall prior to the event and tidying it all up on the following Sunday morning. If you’d like to get involved or If you have any questions about the event, please feel free please contact me.
Merry Christmas (too soon lol)
