Overview The new recreation center is one of five projects in Commerce City’s voter-approved capital improvement program. Located at E. 112th Avenue and Potomac Street, the 108,000 square foot building includes an indoor pool, gymnasium with walking/ jogging track, weights/fitness area, gymnastics room, dance/aerobics studio and site infrastructure. Access is available through new road connections from Highway 2, Potomac Street and E. 112th Avenue. Schedule Construction began in October 2016 and is expected to be completed this May, allowing installation of 3,000 pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment and staff training prior to the grand opening. Traffic Impacts E. 112th Avenue remains closed east of Potomac Street but all other lanes are now open to traffic. Pay attention to signs and drive slowly near the work zones. What’s Ahead - April and May 2018 Upcoming work includes: forming and pouring main entrance concrete planters and flatwork; completing exterior signs, roof and gutters; finalizing plumbing; sanding gym and exercise floors; installing dance floor; hanging mirrors in fitness, dance and exercise rooms; setting lockers, benches, bathrooms and lighting in locker rooms; setting kitchen tile; finishing community room drywall and painting; preparing to set high clear-story glass and wood ceiling; coordinating art installation; finalizing pool plaster; installing storm sewer and pouring concrete slabs.
