No Royal Treatment for Kings in San Jose Exhibition November 19, 2010 The Los Angeles Junior Kings came to San Jose hoping to hold court on their Northern California rivals. While the Kings managed to put up three goals against the San Jose Jr. Sharks over the weekend, the Blackhawks held the Kings to nine shots on goal for their entire contest. Geoffrey Grimm stopped all nine shots for the shut-out as the Blackhawks maintained their perfect record against Southern California teams this season.

The Blackhawks got on the scoreboard at 2:56 of the first period when Robby Jackson scored with assists from Aidan Ward and Patrick Khodorenko. The goal from Jackson came as the Blackhawks outshot the Kings 10-1 in the first period.

The Hawks offense sputtered at times, no doubt a consequence of taking four penalties in the second period. However, the penalty kill shined for the Blackhawks, killing those four penalties and two others awarded to the Kings.

Late in the second period, Jackson netted his second goal of the game. The primary assist was credited to Malthe Helt.

David Adams, Robby Jackson and Patrick Khodorenko each finished the game with a plus two rating.

Another Tragedy in Oakland: Hawks Tie Blue Devils Again November 20, 2010 In a Halloween match-up against the Tri-Valley Blue Devils, one scary sight for the Blackhawks was the penalty box as three power play goals led to a tie game. On this November night, however, the scary sight was the clock, as the Blackhawks gave up two third period goals in the last four minutes of the game, providing the Blue Devils with another point in the Norcal standings.

The game started well for the Blackhawks. The Hawks out-shot the Blue Devils 14 to 10 in the first period. Connor Downing scored a power play goal midway through the first, with an assist from Jared Lee.

The Blackhawks added another goal midway through the second period when Robby Jackson scored short-handed, with assists from Patrick Khodorenko and Jared Lee. However, the Blackhawks were outshot 7-3 in the second period. Disturbingly, the Blackhawks would only manage 4 shots combined for the second and third periods. Nicholas Checklenis stopped all 17 shots faced from the Blue Devils in the first and second periods. Checklenis would finish the game with a .926 save percentage.

Unlike Halloween, where the penalty kill units let the Blue Devils back in the game, the penalty kill was perfect this November day – going six for six.

However, the slide began with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game. The Blue Devils scored their first goal with 3:50 remaining. The Blue Devils notched their second goal with 1:19 left on the clock.

Coach Kellam called timeout to settle the Blackhawks down and get them focused on scoring the game winner in the last minute of the game. Unfortunately, the goal did not come. The Blackhawks only managed one shot in the third period and did not have the mojo to get the victory.

Hawks Play Complete Game in Victory over Blue Devils November 21, 2010 Playing in their third game in three days and the second game of the home-and-away series against the Tri-Valley Blue Devils, the Blackhawks put together a strong showing to achieve a 4-1 victory. No penalty kill woes and no third period melt-down would plague the Blackhawks this November afternoon.

The first period was relatively even in the beginning. Midway through the first period, Tri-Valley was awarded a penalty shot. Geoffrey Grimm did not provide any open zones and forced the shooter to go high and wide. Robby Jackson put the Blackhawks

It appeared that the first period would end in a 1-0 lead for the Blackhawks. However, with time running down, Corey Gutierrez cleared the puck from the left boards of the defensive zone towards the neutral zone. Matthew Ebertin side-stepped a check in the neutral zone and carried the puck into the offensive

Checklenis stopped 15 of 16 shots to earn the victory. The Blackhawks out-shot the Capital Thunder 42-16 for the game, and 36-10 over the last two periods. Evan McGraw and Jared Lee each finished the afternoon at +3. Despite the slow start, the Blackhawks demonstrated that they deserved their number one NorCal ranking. They were also looking forward to the opportunity to play against the LA Kings in six days to break-up the NorCal routine.
