P ’ C LORD,TEACHUSTOPRAY(37).It’s August of 1976. I am preparing to make my perpetual vows as an Oblate of St. Joseph in September. I experienced a shared adventure with ten friends in mid-August which would help shape and inspire my spirituality for years to come. The inscrip-tion on the back reads, “THELORD’SCANOETRIP–SUM-MEROF1976. My love affair with the Russian River began in the Summer of 1966. My older brother, Tom, and one of my younger brothers, Bob, and I, loaded into Tom’s ’56 Volkswagen and drove to Healdsburg, CA on the Russian River in Northern California. We launched our rented ca-noe near a town called Cloverdale. We canoed and camped for four days, through wine country, the oak-studded Fitch Mountain hills, and on into redwood forest resort area. We inished our voyage in Monte Rio, about 6 miles from the Paci ic Ocean. What a glorious adventure! The BEAUTY of: the river, the sky, the vegetation, the trees and the forests, was enthralling. I kept gathering friends to repeat this ad-venture year after year. Of the 11 friends on the canoe trip in 1976, eight of us were active members of weekly prayer groups. Consequently, when a crisis occurred, there was a natural tendency to turn to God for help with expectant faith. The irst day we canoed for 11 miles and were tired and sore when we reached the campground at Alexander Valley Bridge. As we built a ire to boil some water and prepare our dinner, it began to rain. Oh Nooo! We formed a circle and began to pray. I remember my prayer, “Lord,forallweknow,thefarmersaroundhereneedthisrain.Wedon’twant to be sel ish,but if you couldhold the rain offuntilwehavedinnerand indsomeshelteredspotstosleep,we’llbemuchobliged.” Then we started to sing one of the memorized prayer group songs, “Our God Reigns!” As we inished our song of praise, lo and behold, the rain stopped! A little more than an hour and a half later I was watching carefully. As the last one of us found a sheltered spot for his or her sleeping bag, a soft rain began to fall again. I was gratefully amazed. It began to dawn on me. This was not just another fun vacation canoe trip. This was a canoe pilgrimage from glory to Glory. We were meant to go from whatever awareness we had of God’s glory-presence at the beginning of the trip to an ever greater awareness of God’s Glory-Presence as the journey pro-gressed. R P SENOR,ENSENANOSAORAR(37). Es agosto de 1976. Me estoy preparando para hacer mis votos perpetuos como Oblato de San Jose en septiembre. Experimente una aven-tura compartida con diez amigos a mediados de agosto que ayudarıa a moldear e inspirar mi espiritualidad en los anos por venir. La inscripcion en la parte de atras dice: “EL VIA-JE EN CANOA DEL SENOR – DEL VERANO DE 1976. Mi his-toria de amor con el Russian River comenzo en el verano de 1966. Mi hermano mayor, Tom, y uno de mis hermanos menores, Bob, y yo, cargamos el Volkswagen ’56 de Tom y nos dirigimos a Healdsburg, CA al Russian River al norte de California. Nos lanzamos a nuestra canoa que alquilamos cerca de un pueblo llamado Cloverdale. Navegamos en la canoa y campamos durante cuatro dıas, a traves de la re-gion vinıcola, las colinas de Fitch Mountain cubiertas de robles, luego en el area turıstica del bosque de secoyas. En consecuencia, cuando ocurrio una crisis, hubo una tendencia natural a acudir a Dios en busca de ayuda con fe expectante. El primer dıa navegamos en canoa por 11 millas y estabamos cansados y doloridos cuando llegamos al campamento en Alexander Valley Bridge. Mientras encendıamos un fuego para hervir un poco de agua y preparar la cena, empezo a llover. ¡Oh nooo! Formamos un circulo y comenzamos a orar. Recuer-do mi oracion: “Senor, por lo que sabemos, los agricultores de aquı necesitan esta lluvia. No queremos ser egoıstas, pero si pudieras aguantar la lluvia hasta que cenemos y encontremos algun lugar protegido para dormir, te lo agra-deceremos”. Luego comenzamos a cantar una de las can-ciones del grupo de oracion memorizadas, “¡Nuestro Dios Reina!” Cuando terminamos nuestro cantico de alabanza, he aquı, ¡la lluvia paro! Un poco mas de una hora y medio despues estaba observando atentamente. Cuando el ultimo de nosotros encontro un lugar protegido para su saco de dormir, una lluvia suave comenzo a caer nuevamente. Me quede asombrado con gratitud. Comence a darme cuenta. Este no fue solo otro divertido viaje de vacaciones en canoa. Este fue un peregrinaje en canoa de gloria en gloria. Esta-bamos destinados a pasar de cualquier conciencia que tu-vieramos de la presencia de la gloria de Dios al comenzo del viaje a una conciencia cada vez mayor de la Presencia de la Gloria de Dios a medida que avanzaba el viaje. T O Escuchen esta otra parabola: El dueño de una hacienda

plantó una viña, la rodeo con una cerca, construyó un lugar para hacer el vino, edificó una torre, la arrendó a unos vi-

ñadores, y se ausentó. Al llegar la cosecha, envió sus criados a los viñadores para recoger los frutos. Pero los viñadores agarraron a los criados, hirieron a uno, mataron al otro y al otro lo apedrearon. De nuevo envio otros criados, en mayor número que la primera vez, e hicieron con ellos lo mismo, Finalmente les envió a su hijo. Pero los viñadores, al ver al

hijo, se dijeron: “Este es el heredero. Matémoslo y nos quedamos con su herencia”. Lo capturaron, lo arrojaron fuera de la viña y lo mataron. ¿Qué hará el señor de la viña cuando

regrese con esos viñadores? -Matará sin compasión a esos miserables. ¿No han leído nunca en las Escrituras:. La piedra que rechazaron los constructors se ha convertido en piedra

fundamental; eso lo hizo el Señor? Por eso les digo que a ustedes se les quitará el reino de

Dios y se le entregará a un pueblo que dé a su tiempo los fru-tos que al reino corresponden.
