7/25/2019 Block16 Soil Replacement Under Road-19.11.2010
1/2
Good afternoon,
I have some comments to the material for replacement under roads and the static circular plate
tests on the backfilling material on the block 16.
Because the suitable (approved) fill material on block 16 will be used for replacement of theunsuitable fill material under the roads on block 16 that means this material will be used into
the pits!. "herefore the tested material could be used for these purposes though the ratio
#def$%#def1 determined b& static circular plate test is more than $,'. But the confirmation of
required compaction is necessary. And some conditions have to be satisfied as well. "he
reuired conditions as follow
*or the same material with ratio #def$%#def1 + 2,5-3,5 (obtained b& static circular plate
teston the top of the backfill la&er of thickness -- or --mm) has to be confirmed
required degree of the compaction. It has to be tested the same material on the same
place with the same process of the compaction as the loading circular plate test was
performed ($.11. / 1$.11.$-1- on block 16). *or the determination of the degree of the
compaction the test b& diaphragm volumeter could be used, where the densit& of thecompacted material in situ will be obtained and afterwards the results of this test and
the results of the 0 test (proctor standard / laboratory test for the same material)
has to be compared. It is not necessar& to use diaphragm volumeter. It is possible to
use other methods for the determination of the degree of the compaction which is
available for the contractor. But the proctor standard test and the granulometric curve
has to be performed for this material as well.
"he reuired degree of the compaction for the replacement under the roadson the
block 16 / 2! "#(proctor standard test for the used material).
If the minimum degree of the compaction for this material will be confirm than it is
possible to use this material and the ratio till 2,' will be satisfactor& during works."his procedure is allowed 3ust for the tested material (it is not possible to approve the
higher ratio #def$%#def1for another not tested material).
It is necessar& to document the results of the proctor standard testing, granulometric
curve and frost susceptibilit& (we suppose it is one of the tested material / sample
signed G4-25$%1-) for tested material. 0lease let us know which material was used
for in situ testing.
"he tested and approved material (on block 16) could be used onl& for backfilling. It is
not suitable as a material into the embankments.
"he fill under the roads will be compacted in la&ers thickness 2--4'-- mm (it will be decided
according to used compactor). $he moisture of the used material has to be ma%imum &2! wopt (woptdetermined b& 0 / proctor standard test). "he degree of the compaction has
to be minimum 2! "#. But the upper part of the replaced soil thickness '-- mm belongs to
the active 7one of the road and therefore the minimum degree of the compaction has to be
'((! "# for this layer.8nd minimum )def2* +( "a at the top of the bacfill on the
formation level/as designed.
"he parameters and reuirements for the backfill material under the paving will be solved

"he material signed as a sample G4-25$%1- is suitable for replacement under the
roads and is suitable for backfilling as well.
"he material signed as a sample G4-252%1- could be suitable for the backfilling if the
reuired degree of the compaction and #def$will be documented. 8nd please confirm
if the same sample was used for 0 (proctor standard) testing. "he results of the 0
test of sample G4-252%1- don9t correspond to the documented granulometric curve(0 material) / the woptfor this material seems to be too high (we would e:pect ;4
