TERMS & CONDITIONS

Cancellation Policy You will receive a full refund, minus $100 administration fee, for cancellation more than 75 days prior to departure. No penalty if you transfer to another trip. Between 75 and 45 days there is a 20% cancellation fee, unless you nd a replacement. With less than 45 days notice, no refund is given unless you nd a replacement. We recommend you purchase trip cancellation insurance when you book your trip.

Deposits and Payments All pricing is in Canadian Dollars. $500.00 per person is due to reserve the trip dates. The balance is due 75 days prior to the trip departure.

TaxesThere are no taxes on Southeast Alaska departures. There is a 12% HST tax on all trips in British Columbia.

Assumption of Risk We require that participants in a Bluewater Adventures trip acknowledge that there are risks associated with their trip with us and that they accept responsibility for engaging in activities that may involve hazard, including, but not limited to, boating, sailing, transfers in and out of and travel in motorized and oar powered dinghies, use of kayaks, hikes ashore and all other activities associated with boating vacations in remote locations. We require that participants acknowledge that Bluewater Adventures, Bluewater Adventures Ltd., Anchor Excursions and the owners and personnel of these companies will not be responsible for any damages, injuries, death, losses, delays, or expenses, whether to person or to property, due to any cause whatsoever. In order to con rm registration a signed liability release will be required of every participant acknowledging the risks associated with these tours and assuming these risks.

Day 1 – Participants will meet at the top of the Municipal Dock on the Bella Bella waterfront and we set off on our journey at approx 11:00am.

Day 2-3 – We now head deep into the coastal mountains and will focus the next two days on the Fiordland Conservancy. Kynoch Inlet has some spectacular rock faces and waterfalls. We will explore remote estuaries and expect to see bears attracted by the spawning salmon or feeding on the sedge grasses in the estuaries. We may visit the native village of Klemtu to see the new longhouse, recently built for the local community.

Days 4-7 – We now travel along the shores of Princess Royal Island – the best known area for seeing the rare spirit or kermode bears. These bears are actually black bears with a recessive gene that makes about ten percent of the bears in this area all-white. Khutze Inlet has a beautiful river valley, an abundance of bird life and we often see bears along the shore. We will spend a day with local Tshimshian guides taking us to their favourite wildlife viewing areas or showing us their ancient sites and intriguing art. In Whale Channel we expect to see humpback whales and will take the time to observe these amazing 15 metre long creatures.

Day8 - We arrive in Bella Bella late morning in time to catch the Paci c Coastal late afternoon ight back to Vancouver.

Arrival Day - Guests y into the Sandspit Airport from Vancouver (Air Canada) the day before their trip starts. Overnight at the Sandspit Inn.

Day 1 –Breakfast at Sandspit Inn. Bus transport you to Graham Island for tour of Haida Heritage Centre and traditional Haida lunch. In afternoon travel to Island Roamer for dinner and start of sailing voyage.

Days 2 – 8 - Over the next 7 days our naturalist and crew will point out wildlife, help guests identify different species and lead some fascinating talks on the history, ora and fauna of this wonderful area. We will go ashore daily to visit ancient Haida villages, walk “old-growth” forests and explore the intertidal zones. We will have excellent chances to see humpback whales, orcas, the Queen Charlotte Islands black bear, and numerous species of birds, including bald eagles, puf ns and peregrine falcons. Speci c highlights include: Visits to Tanu, Burnaby Narrows, UN World Heritage Site of SGang Gwaay, Hot Springs Island, Skedans (Koona).

Day 8 – Mid-morning disembark at Moresby Camp. The shuttle will meet guests and return them to the Sandspit Airport to catch afternoon ights back to Vancouver.

At the northern end of Vancouver Island lies a maze of islands and waterways, full of wildlife, beautiful scenery, and the history and traditions of the Kwakwaka’wakw people (Kwakiutl). The Paci c Ocean funnels into the protected waters of Johnstone Strait creating strong tidal currents, and incredibly nutrient-rich waters. Millions of salmon, returning to spawn in the mainland rivers, must converge to pass through the Strait. Pods of orcas (killer whales) wait to hunt the salmon in the passages. Humpback whales, Dall’s porpoise and Paci c white-sided dolphins are commonly sighted in the area. Along the shore, black bears roam feeding in the intertidal zone. The wealth of life and food attracts a variety of marine mammals, seabirds, eagles and anyone interested in spectacular natural history.

The waters of Johnstone Strait and Queen Charlotte Strait are considered the best place in the world to observe Orcinus orca (killer whales). For a few months of the year these beautiful marine mammals are present on a daily basis. Travel up Knight Inlet and witness grizzlies feeding on the salmon.

Day 1 – Guests will meet at 11:00 am on Day 1 at the top of Cabs Fuel Dock on the Port McNeill waterfront.

Days 2-3 – Our focus these days will be on the waters of Johnstone Strait or nearby Queen Charlotte Strait. Part of each day, will be exploring for various species of marine mammals. Not only is the area famous for orcas, but humpback and minke whales are common. Dall’s porpoise often come over to the boat to play on the bow wave. After a few hours oating with whales, we will visit the modern Kwakwaka’wakw community of Alert Bay to visit the U’Mista Cultural Centre to see the fascinating collection of potlatch masks on display. If we have a good wind, we expect to raise the sails and enjoy the silence and beauty of sailing. There will be time to explore the protected waters using our stable, sea kayaks that we carry onboard (optional).

Day 4-5 – The trip now shifts as we travel deep into the Coast Mountains up a beautiful ord called Knight Inlet. Extending nearly 60 miles, Knight Inlet is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and some of the most remote wilderness on the coast. Grizzly bears require wilderness to survive. We expect to see bears at the mouth of the river, and we often see bears walking the shore. There should be some spectacular opportunities for photography.

Day 6 – At the entrance to Knight Inlet is the abandoned Kwakwaka’wakw village of Mimquimlees. With permission from the local native band we will explore the old village to discover fallen totem poles and a rich heritage. Returning to Johnstone Strait, we will have further encounters with the whales.

Day 7 –Trip Finish: We return to Port McNeill mid morning. Guests can catch the afternoon ight from Port Hardy to Vancouver.

Day 1 – You will be met at the entrance to the Petersburg Harbor Master’s of ce by a Bluewater crew member and taken aboard “Island Odyssey”. After boat orientation and cabin assignment we depart from Petersburg and head north into Frederick Sound. Day 2 to 8– Guided by our naturalist we will watch fascinating wildlife, explore the shorelines for intertidal areas and keep a daily record of the various species of birds, plants and marine mammals we observe. One of our rst areas of exploration will be Frederick Sound which is the core feeding area for humpback whales in Southeast Alaska. We will spend at least 5 days in the Frederick Sound-Chatham Strait observing humpback whales and trying to capture that perfect photograph. We expect to see some spectacular whale behaviour. Admiralty Island National Monument offers beautiful evening anchorages and has the highest concentration of brown bears in North America. We will have an opportunity to visit the LeConte Glacier by jet boat.

Heading south through Wrangell Narrows, we will visit beautiful Anan Creek and the US Forest Service’s wildlife observatory, where bears, eagles, seals and ravens are all attracted to the largest pink salmon run in southeastern Alaska. It is amazing to watch bears feeding on spawning salmon in a rushing river – truly a classic Alaska experience. On Prince of Wales Island is the remote Haida village of New Kasaan and Chief Sonihat’s Big House. We stop in Ketchikan to visit the Totem Heritage Center and historic Creek Street. Throughout our voyage the daily itinerary remains exible to meet group interests, weather patterns, and of course, to take full advantage of wildlife sightings. We complete our trip on day 9 in Prince Rupert, BC in Prince Rupert in time to catch the Air Canada ight departing Prince Rupert back to Vancouver.

KHUTZEYMATEENNORTH COAST INLET

In August of 1994, the Khutzeymateen was designated Canada’s only grizzly bear sanctuary under the joint management of the province of British Columbia and the Tsimshian Nation. In 2006, the protected area was

expanded with the addition of the Khutzeymateen Conservancy. Located 40 kilometres northeast of Prince

Rupert on BC’s northern coast, Khutzeymateen - a Tsimshian word meaning a con ned space of salmon

and bears, provides about 45 000 hectares of protected wilderness for grizzlies - a species at risk. The valley’s

rich wildlife population includes moose, wolves, migrat-ing owls, grouse, shorebirds, geese, harlequin ducks, king shers and harbour seals. Orca and humpback

whales are found along the coast. Come experience the North Coast with Bluewater Adventures!
