BOISDALE COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP OPENS FOR
BUSINESS!
10 families aended the first day of the Boisdale
Community Playgroup yesterday! The room looks
wonderful and a credit to all concerned. Leanne
Dhani from Playgroup Victoria will “officially” launch
the playgroup next Wednesday, hopefully with the
local press in aendance.
Please refer to our “Classroom Spotlight” sec*on for
photos of the happy children!
School Chaplaincy Program 2015-2019
Good news is now being circulated through media channels that the Chaplaincy
program will con*nue in Victoria for the 2015 -2019 period! Details of how
schools can apply and access the program will become available from October 27.
I would like to thank School Council for lobbying with relevant poli*cians when
this program was in jeopardy in Victoria.
We will be preparing a strong applica*on for the con*nua*on of the program at
BCS!
P-2 Website Launch
I belatedly congratulate P-2 for the launch of the Prep – 2 website that now can
be viewed! Loads of work by Mrs Condron, Mrs Smyth and students have been
put in to achieve the goal of having their very own website!
P-2 families will be informed through a leer how to access the site at home
School Wide Posi.ve Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
I would like to congratulate Mrs Armitage in her work towards developing a novel
way of linking the school’s core values to posi*ve behaviour in the playground.
Mrs Armitage has designed a “washing line” concept where children who receive
core values cards will hang up the card on the “line”. The idea is that staff will
explain to students explicitly why they have received the acknowledgement in
terms of our school values. When the “washing line” is full, an agreed shared
reward for all students will be received such as “extra play*me”.
Although we are “officially” launching the values cards at Friday a<ernoon’s
assembly, it has been trialled this week with great success!
I would also like to thank John Costello for pu>ng up the “washing line”!

School Wide Positive Behaviour
Students are now receiving tokens instead of s*ckers to acknowledge all the posi*ve values teachers
see in the yard. The s*cker chart worked well for keeping track of how many students were posi*vely
rewarded, but unfortunately the chart itself has become dry, dusty and brile and the s*ckers were no
longer s*cking. S*ckers have been replaced with another visual method, tokens pegged to a line. If as
student receives one of these, they simply peg it up and once all the tokens are hung, the en*re school
gets acknowledged in a posi*ve way such as extra play.
The shade shelter mural pain*ng is s*ll
a work in progress but the new system
has successfully been trialled this week
and hopefully will work well into the
future.
All students will be receiving 10
minutes extra play tomorrow to
acknowledge the final row of s*ckers
from last term.
Well done everyone!
Maffra Show The deadline for art work to be entered in the Maffra Show is Monday the 13
th of October. If you
have a piece of work that you have made at school and are par*cularly proud of and
would like to have it entered in this year’s Show, let Mrs Armitage know by Monday at
the latest.

OPEN FOR PLAY!
A huge welcome to all the families joining the Boisdale Community Playgroup. We have had an
overwhelming opening with 10 children aending the very first session. To commemorate the opening

will be doing this again on Friday. Everyone was busy playing with the toys donated, playdough and
being crea*ve with a cra< ac*vity before morning tea.
For insurance purposes, we have to register with Playgroup Victoria.
To join online, please visit www.playgroup.org.au , Boisdale Community Playgroups membership
number is 116589.

Well, with our first performance less than 3 weeks away…excitement is certainly building.
IMPORTANT things for you to know…..
• Tickets will go on sale next week.
• The dress rehearsal is Monday 27th
October…it is essen*al that all students are present for this.
• Costume notes are included with this newsleer. It is CRITICAL that families offer support by
supplying the few costume items that are needed. Please use Op Shops and friends rather than
spend lots money
• Choir notes need to be returned by tomorrow.
• The ma*nee performance is for Briagolong Primary School on Tuesday 28th
October.
• The play will be performed on the evenings of Wednesday 29th
and Thursday 30th
October.
I will also be sending home a note about help with makeup and backstage for these 3 performances.
Let the show go on!
THANKYOU!!!! A small but very industrious group came to school during the holidays to paint scenery
for the play. We achieved a HUGE amount in just a few short, sociable hours. It must have been the 5
cakes that we enjoyed for morning tea!
Thanks go to Brenton Morrisson, Olivia Allen, Erika Allen, Kathleen Wilson, Meg Wilson, Rosy Byrne,
Jo Allen, Jenny Candy and her mother in law from India, Jaya.

Healthy Eating
Healthy eating has a long-lasting and positive impact on a child’s growth, development and health.
Foods eaten by your child at school contribute greatly to their daily nutrient intake. These foods considerably influence their eating habits, growth patterns, energy, concentration levels and ability to learn. You have an important role to play in helping to en-sure your child eats well and stays active. Healthy school lunch ideas include:
• sandwiches or pita bread with cheese, lean meat or salad
• cheese slices, crackers with spread and fresh fruit
• washed and cut-up raw vegetables or fresh fruits
• frozen water or milk, particularly in hot weather Highly processed, sugary, fatty and salty foods should only make up a very small part of your child’s diet. Foods to limit in school lunches include:
• processed meats such as salami and pressed chicken
• chips, sweet biscuits, muesli and breakfast bars
• fruit bars and fruit straps
• cordials, juices containing sugar and soft drinks
It is important to let your child’s school principal know if your child is allergic to particular foods.
Health education initiatives
We actively promote healthy eating and physical activ-ity and support a whole-school approach to health ed-ucation through the following initiatives: Healthy Canteen kit - a kit developed to support stu-dents making healthy food choices at school and in life. Learn more: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/canteendown.aspx Food ideas for home and school - the Healthy Can-teen Kit provides lots of great ideas for healthy, tasty, attractive foods. While ideas in the canteen manual have been provided to help school canteens create interesting food choices at school, these suggestions can also be used at home to provide healthy food choices.
