OUTSTANDING

Dear friend of Olney Theatre Center,

“Astonishing!” “So much fun!” “Visceral and powerful!” “I love Olney’s new direction!” These are a few of the comments we’ve received about our first full season leading Olney Theatre Center into a new era. After 76 years as one of Maryland’s two state theaters, Olney Theatre has turned a corner, bringing not only beloved classics and fantastic musicals to arts-rich Montgomery and Howard Counties, but now some of the most exciting new plays changing the American cultural landscape.

If you’ve been a member of Olney Theatre Center in the past, you know what you’re getting: Broadway-quality professional productions in all four of our performance spaces, from the intimate 150-seat Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab to the 460-seat Historic powerhouse, and from the contemporary 430-seat Mainstage to the glorious Root Family Outdoor Stage. Whether it’s the Helen Hayes Award-winning A Chorus Line or hot new plays like Colossal and I and You, Olney Theatre is leading the way for mid-Atlantic regional theater entertainment of the highest quality.

If you haven’t been a member, why not try us out? You only need to pick three shows, for $40 each, and you become part of the DC region’s fastest-rising and most dynamic theater company. If you like musicals, pick three and save almost 50% on regular ticket prices (and we’re fully flexible, so you’re not locked into specific dates), including orchestra seats for the hilarious Tony Award©-winner The Producers. Like serious drama? How about Arthur Miller’s The Price, two new plays, and a reimagined production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel? Want to come with the family? Try Godspell, Noël Coward’s hilarious Hay Fever, and the season-closing Guys and Dolls. We’ll even throw in reserved seats for a free outdoor Shakespeare production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to convince you.

The point is that Olney Theatre Center, with its four-theater campus, has something for every theatergoer, from first-timers to veterans. With free parking, restaurant deals, and lots of exciting member-only opportunities to meet the artists and experience our 14-acre campus in memorable ways… this couldn’t be a better time to join us.

Olney Theatre Center Dedicates the 2015 Seasonto the Memory of William H. Graham, Sr.

William H. Graham, Sr. was a leader, mentor, director, performer, and a tireless advocate for the performing arts during his more than fifty-year association with Olney Theatre Center. Bill played several roles during his time at Olney Theatre, from Mainstage actor and director for the National Players, to General Manager and most recently as President Emeritus of our Board of Directors.

To pay tribute to his many contributions to Olney Theatre and the National Players, we dedicate the 2015 season to him. We remember Bill in all we do, and we invite you to honor his legacy by making a contribution to the William H. One of the top ten plays of London in 2013, (Guardian, London Evening Standard) Grounded is the story of an ace fighter pilot who unexpectedly becomes pregnant and gets reassigned to operating drones from a windowless trailer on an Air Force base in the desert outside Las Vegas. Hunting terrorists by day and coming home to her family by night, the boundaries between reality and the screen – between the desert where she lives and the desert where she fights – blur until the pressure becomes impossible to bear.

Hoping for a quiet weekend in the country with some guests, David Bliss, a novelist, and his wife Judith, a “retired” actress, find that an impossible dream when their high-spirited children Simon and Sorel appear with guests of their own. A house full of comedy waits to be ignited as misunderstandings mount and tempers flare. With Judith’s new flame and David’s newest literary “inspiration” keeping company as the children follow suit, the Bliss family lives up to its name as the ‘quiet weekend’ comes to an exhausting and hilarious finale worthy of the best classic farce.
