Kindergarten Orientation for 2018Kindergarten Orientation 2018 has officially finished for this year with great success Our new students enjoyed three mornings with Miss Staniland Miss Hogan and Mrs Smith guiding them through different activitiesThese mornings are an invaluable opportunity for all teachers involved to get to know the students further especially if they havenrsquot completed a full semester of our Kindy Club program Special thanks to Nicole Rowsell and Mrs Freeman for volunteering to assist with the programAdditional thanks go to our lsquoLakeside Lunchboxrsquo for providing fruit break for students and morning tea for the Kinder families

Issue 18 - Term 4 - Week 6 Tuesday 14th November 2017

Hunter Wetlands ExcursionLast week Stage 2 students had the opportunity to participate in the Hunter Environmental Education Centrersquos lsquoEco Explorersrsquo program at the Wetlands Centre The program reinforced concepts from this semesterrsquos Science curriculum exploring the issues of waste disposal fossil fuels renewable energies and carbon footprint Students performed experiments with measuring solar energy and designing natural cooling solutions for houses They even got to pack their lsquoideal lunchrsquo in a lunchbox before considering the amount of excessive packaging around our food and making some more environmentally friendly (and healthy) lunchbox choices A definite highlight for some lucky students was seeing a huge eel and a turtle swimming around the pond during our recess break Overall they had a great day and learned some ways they can make sustainable choices for our planet

BPS Community SurveyA huge thank you to our families who completed the School Community Survey last term The results of this in conjunction with our External Validation report will drive our schoolrsquos future over the next three years BPS Executive Team are currently looking at developing the 2018-2020 School Plan and we have drafted three Strategic Directions 1 ndash Explicit Teaching and Student Growth2 ndash A Planned Approach to Student Wellbeing3 - Cohesive CommunityWe will be sharing more about this with you in early 2018 when we will be asking for community feedback before we submit the final plan

Learning For The Future

Booragul BBQ Bonanza Tomorrow afternoon from 500pm those families who have responded to our formal BBQ Bonanza invitation will be able to share a relaxed sausage sizzle with the staff of our school This is a follow up to our lsquoMeet and Greetrsquo barbeque which we held in Term 1 This is a new initiative which the staff would like to make a tradition at our school Too often we donrsquot get to connect as a whole community as everyone is so busy Sometimes it is the little moments like a simple barbeque that allows us to take a break to sit back and enjoy a casual conversation We look forward to catching up with you and sharing some great stories from this year

Oz Tag Rep Team Huge congratulations to Zye Midwood for being selected to represent the Lake Macquarie Oz Tag Team for the 2018 State Cup Whilst he wonrsquot be at our school next year we wish Zye the best of luck in this competition We know he will embrace the challenge play fairly and display great sportsmanship We look forward to hearing about the results next year
