Our Summer line-up is possibly the most eclectic yet! We present the biggest names in the guitar world on 10 May with a concert from John Williams, Gary Ryan and John Etheridge, plus a Barber Evening Concert with previous BBC Young Musician winner, Martin James Bartlett on 17 May. We have Music student recitals in The Dome, as well as exciting events such as the annual BEASTFEaST and performances on the University Community Fun Day on 11 June. The now long-established Summer Festival of Music completes our 2016/17 season, and runs from 4–16 June. The Festival includes many of the regular University Music ensembles, plus guest appearances from student jazz/fusion bands Whitecap and Argle Bargle.

The annual Summer Festival Opera is a creative and magical production of Jonathan Dove’s The Enchanted Pig, and will be the first performance in the UK by university students.

You can also get some dates in your diary for the Autumn as we give you a sneak peek at what is coming up in the next Barber Evening series and in the Birmingham International Piano Festival. I am also delighted to announce that there will be a professional Barber Opera – a revival of L’Agrippina by Nicolò Porpora in September – a work that has not been staged since its debut in Naples in 1708. You can check the dates for the start of the 2017/18 season on page 17. Jo SweetHead of University Music and Concerts

BEAST FEaST 2017: Figure | Landscape | Seascape | Sky Electronic music can produce sounds suggestive of the most intimate intentions; the result of acts undertaken by the most miniscule of agents. At the same time it can evoke soundscapes which whether subtle or grand go far beyond the scope of an individual's actions, up to and including the cosmic.

Join us and featured composers Paula Matthusen, Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, and Sarah Farmer for BEAST FEaST 2017 as we explore this range of possibilities, from the local, personal, and rhetorical, through the immersive and environmental, to the incomprehensibly huge.
