What an amazing week we had with Jack and Jules from Bell

Shakespeare! Well done to Mrs Helen Johnson who coordinated

the week for all students to participate in learning more about

Shakespeare, drama and HSC English.

Our PBL team consisting of Mrs Helen Tremain, Mrs Debbie

Blatch, Mr James Sanders and Ms Emma Livissianis presented

how PBL works in our school to support student behaviour and

learning to your P&C last week. It was great to hear the

questions from the parents and caregivers in attendance, we will

be shortly giving you all information to access your child’s VIVO account.

We look forward to viewing the Department’s NAIDOC Day event where our students were filmed

singing ‘My Island Home’ as part of Christine Anu’s performance. We will send you the link when we

know more. I thank Ms Emma Livissianis, our Wellbeing Leader for coordinating this for our students.

Well done to Ms Amanda Crain who has been accepted into the Rural and Remote Leadership

Development Program. This is a twelve-month program for aspiring and current school leaders in rural

and remote settings. She will be working with a highly skilled mentor to support a project within our

school.

This week we farewell Mrs Kerry Ward who has worked with many students over the years, supporting

them with their learning. Kerry and her husband Murray are moving to the coast, we wish them all the

best. Kerry will be very much missed!

A message from the Principal

At Yeoval Central School we inspire all to be responsible, respectful and cooperative learners. Working together to achieve and grow.

VIVO 101

Do you know what keeps our 'Eagles' flying? At Yeoval Central School, students are awarded vivos, otherwise known as eagles, for displaying the

current PBL focus behaviours.

These vivos can be used in an online shop to purchase a range of items, including stationary, school hats

and novelty items.

The behaviours currently being targeted are:

1. Work collaboratively with others

2. Present your personal best

Last week in Little Eagles we read the story 'Giraffes can't dance'. We did some

very creative giraffe paintings. Of course, we did some dancing, which was also

very creative. In the afternoon we participated in some play activities with Miss

Lillie. Caleb, Claudia, Eden, Lucy and Victoria all had a lot of fun.

Miss Amanda Crain

Last week Stage 5 English were extremely privileged to spend two lessons with actors from the prestigious

Bell Shakespeare Company. Not only were the class captivated by the bloody tale of ambition, revenge,

disloyalty and the nature of kingship but they actively engaged in the unfolding of the story.

With some sterling performances by Ezra as Macbeth and Lucy as Lady Macbeth, ably supported by

Cooper as Banquo and Elizabeth as McDuff, the play was brought alive. Skye, Kitana and Lucy (very

versatile as the witches) brought forth the machinations of the universe and ensured that Macbeth

succumbed to his own folly. With moving forests and battle scarred soldiers, all students embraced their

opportunity to create the action of the play. The melodrama of the fight scenes and ensuing deaths were

extremely impressive, if somewhat startling.

As a result of this ‘hands on’ approach, students were able to articulate their personal interpretations of

the play and their reasons for coming to these conclusions. They developed a deep understanding of the

themes and could link this understanding to our contemporary setting, thus acknowledging that the study

of Shakespeare is every bit as relevant in the 21st century as it was in the 16th century.
