World Chambers Competition Award 2007Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) won the “World Chambers Competition Award 2007” in “Best Skills Development Program” category from the World Chambers Federation (WCF). The WCF is ICC’s specialized division for Chambers affairs and it organized the 5th“World Chambers Congress” during 4-6 July, 2007 at Istanbul, Turkey.

CACCI Local Chamber Awards In recognition of its crucial role in promoting the cause of business community in Bangladesh, DCCI won the 4th Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce & Industry (CACCI) Award in Big Chamber Category on July 6, 2010. DCCI President received the award from the President of CACCI Ambassador Benedicto V. Yujuico at the award giving ceremony of the 24th Conference of the Confederation at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

MLS-SCM (P) Best Network Partner Institution Award 2010”Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) was awarded with the “MLS-SCM (P) Best Network Partner Institution Award 2010” of International Trade Centre (ITC) - UNCTAD/WTO, Geneva, from among 120 partner Institutions from 69 countries, at the “MLS-SCM (P) Global Network Roundtable, Malaysia, 2011”, held at Kuala Lumpur during 06-08 April, 2011.

World Chamber Competition Award 2011DCCI participated in the World Chambers Competition Award 2011 at the Best Unconventional Project Category. DCCI’s project was Dhaka Customs House Automation Project implemented under Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. 7th World Chamber Congress was held in Mexico City during June 8-10, 2011. DCCI was one of four finalists from among 83 Chambers of the World who participated in the programme.

NEW ECONOMIC THINKING: BANGLADESH 2030 AND BEYOND Bangladesh’s vision is to become a developed country by 2041. This

International Conference will, in essence, articulate a development roadmap to achieve that vision. Great minds and great achievers from all over the world will share and deliver during this day-long thought provoking event to chart a path to realize Bangladesh’s vision.

This International Conference will also focus on our country positioning in the region and the world to address the competition that we will be subjected to, and political, economic and environmental challenges that we will encounter. INDOMITABLE BANGLADESH The story of Bangladesh’s growth is exemplary to the world. While the global economic annual growth is hovering around 3 to 3.5 per cent (1.5 per cent growth in Europe, 2.4 percent growth in the USA, 3.4 percent growth in the Sub-Saharan economies and around 5 percent growth in Asian economies), Bangladesh has managed a steadily ascending growth curve over the last two decades standing now at 7.11 percent.

BANGLADESH IS SET FOR A GLORIOUS PARADIGM SHIFT

Bangladesh is on an upward trajectory to achieve a Middle Income Country status by the year 2021. This rise to MIC status will be featured by 8 percent GDP growth, 34.4 percent private investment growth and 31 percent industrial growth by 2021.

Bangladesh is on track to become 30th largest economy of the world by the year 2030 with a $1 trillion GDP, double digit economic growth and $6000 per capita income in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP). Footing on the track, Bangladesh also envisions being a developed economy by the year 2041 featured by $2.5 trillion GDP and $12600 per capita income.

Bangladesh has shown her true grit in its quest for moving forward by adopting a visionary slogan of “Digital Bangladesh”. “Digital Bangladesh” movement aims to transform all sectors through adoption of latest in ICT, ensuring opportunities for all, equipping them with education and skill chasing the target of inclusive, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.

We believe, now is the time to clear the obstacles, take appropriate measures, live up to our promises and move forward.

IT’S TIME TOMOVE FORWARD

BILLION DOLLAROPPORTUNITIES

In order for Bangladesh to play a vital role in bringing about national and global harmony, the wide array of opportunities in different sectors that have been identified as the "Billion Dollar Opportunities" must be brought to fruition. The opportunities are listed below:

ICT$300 million export oriented ICT industry targets to reach $5 billion by the year 2021 and $50 billion by the year 2041. Potential of being the largest export earning sector because of higher value addition encompassing business process outsourcing, software and IT enable services.

RMG & Backward linkage of TextileRMG industry is the largest export earner with a value of $28.84 billion, contributing 82 percent to the total export earning of the country. Export earning is expected to reach $50 billion by the year 2021 and $150 billion by year 2041.

Leather and FootwearGlobal leather & footwear market is about $215 billion of which Bangladesh accounts for $1.29 billion which is 0.6 percent of global market. This $1.29 billion export oriented industry aims to reach $5 billion by the year 2021 and $25 billion by the year 2041.

Pharmaceuticals and APIThis sector is growing in Bangladesh at 15 percent annually. The hi-tech intensive Pharmaceuticals industry meets 97 percent of local demand. Most of the Pharmaceuticals companies depend on imported raw materials called active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This industry targets to achieve $5 billion export earnings by the year 2021 and $25 billion by the year 2041.

Light Engineering and AutomobileThis industry is recognized as the high priority sector in "Industrial Policy 2016" and Special Development Sector in "Export Policy 2015-18". This sector meets around 50 percent of the domestic demand. It will grow exponentially with GDP growth and earn $15 billion by the year 2041.

Blue EconomyGlobal marine economy envisaging coastal tourism, trade & shipping, off-shore oil & gas and fishery is worth $530 billion which is expected to grow to $3.5 trillion by the year 2041. Bangladesh has huge potential to explore manifold marine economy based activities grabbing 2.5% of global share equivalent to $105 billion by the year 2041 as Bangladesh has a maritime boundary of about 1,18,813 Sq. kilometer.

Agro, Agro Processing and Allied IndustryAgro, Agro Processing and Allied Industry including jute processing accounts for 15 percent of GDP and earns around $2 billion from export to 104 countries. This industry envisions export earning of $3.5 billion by the year 2021 and $20 billion by the year 2041.

HRD for overseas employmentRemittance received from NRBs reached around $15 billion in 2015 which is approximately 7.5 percent of GDP in Bangladesh. In the year 2015-16 around 6,84,537 Bangladeshi workers migrated to different countries. This remittance inflow is expected to reach $21 billion by the year 2021 and $119 by the year 2041.

The country's strengths as a strategic location for business and investment include: macroeconomic stability; open and diversified economy; abundant competitive and skilled labor force; strategic location as a gateway to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region; a legislative framework favorable to business.

The geographic location of Bangladesh makes her more attractive spot for investment. The Bay of Bengal in the south is a great water way from all corners of the world. Existing sea ports and the one that is coming up in the deep sea offer huge opportunity of trade, commerce and investment. Land connectivity through BCIM economic corridor with neighboring and regional countries makes Bangladesh a golden land of business.
