BRECKENRIDGE CREATIVE ARTSSUMMER 2015 HAPPENINGS
breckcreate.org
Through art, Breckenridge expresses itself as a town like no other, where the simple charms of our surroundings connect the most unlikely of neighbors: hunters to hippies, liberals to libertarians, beer drinkers to cosmic thinkers. Here, everyone has a voice they are encouraged to express. And the melody they create is anything but monotone.
BreckCreate drives home the importance of the arts in establishing Breckenridge’s identity. It motivates the sharing of fresh perspectives; it entices those from outside the local community to engage Breckenridge as a creative destination. It promises an evolving experience that reinvigorates the soul with every return visit.
BRECKENRIDGE CREATIVE ARTS | BRECKCREATE
The Breckenridge Arts District is the region’s newest epicenter of creativity, bringing together studios, galleries, performance spaces, historic landmarks, public art, restaurants, cafes, and other creative businesses that animate and populate a vibrant cultural corridor in downtown Breckenridge.
The Arts District’s core attraction is a new multi-facility arts campus that hosts workshops, exhibits, artists-in-residence, and a variety of other activities for locals and visitors alike. With a focus on educational and experiential enrichment, programs include classes in several media such as textiles, ceramics, metalwork, painting, and more. Complete with decorative plazas and sculpture gardens, the Arts District campus serves as a community gathering place and a catalyst for creative expression in Breckenridge.
Visit breckcreate.org for more information. Pre-registration required for workshops. All materials included unless otherwise noted.

Edwin Kayton has been prolific in the
mediums of oil, drawing and sculpture for
over 30 years. His artistic subjects have
focused on the Hawaiian personality,
European cultures, and the western
genre. He graduated from Museum Art
School (now Pacific Northwest School
of Art) in Portland, Oregon in 1967. His
oil painting technique focuses on the
subtle relationship and the interaction
between light and shadow, colors,
shapes, and patterns of subjects, often
exploiting chiaroscuro to create an
atmospheric feeling.
Edwin will be the guest artist at the
Tin Shop in July. He will be teaching
multi-day workshops in oil painting
and drawing. He will also be painting
regularly in his studio and you are
welcome to stop by and see a master
painter at work.

BRECKENRIDGE CREATIVE ARTS SUMMER 2015 HAPPENINGSPAGE
34
AUG 14-23 BIFA
This summer Breckenridge comes alive with color and culture, including: a creativity crawl through the galleries and creative businesses in downtown; the opening of the new multi-arts facility, Old Masonic Hall; and al fresco art tours that highlight the town’s growing collection of public art.
Art Around Town is a free summer art walk that introduces guests to all the creative happenings in the Breckenridge Arts District, offering them guided or self-guided tours through the Sculpture on the Blue outdoor exhibition and providing an overview on the diverse mix of representational and contemporary public art pieces around town.
In addition, Breckenridge Creative Arts is teaming up with The Summit Foundation to present QUACK: An Artful Duck Exhibition, part of the Annual Great Rubber Duck Races in August. This public art project will feature seven oversized fiberglass ducks, each hand-painted by a local Summit County artist, displayed in outdoor spaces throughout downtown Breckenridge.
