PROGRAMS POLICIES & GENERAL INFO The Breckenridge Recreation Department is constantly striving to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If you are not completely satisfied, let us know and we will do our best to serve your needs.

All classes are held at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, Stephen C. West Ice Arena or Gold Run Nordic Center, unless otherwise noted.

The Breckenridge Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any activity due to lack of enrollment, inclement weather or causes beyond our control.

The Breckenridge Recreation Department welcomes individuals with and without disabilities into out facilities and programs. If you are a person with special needs who requires assistance to participate in our programs or to use our facilities, please contact our staff at (970) 453-1734 prior to your visit or the start of your program.

Class confirmations are not mailed. Assume your class is a "go" unless you are notified.

Refunds and transfers must be requested 5 working days, excluding weekends, prior to the scheduled start of any activity.

A $3 service charge applies on refunds requested by the participant and no refunds are available with less than 5 days notice. There is no service charge if we cancel the activity. Please refer to individual class descriptions for further information regarding refunds and transfer policies, as some classes may differ. Refunds may take 3 to 4 weeks to process.

No refunds of any programs after one year past a program’s start date.

Program participants who do not have a Recreation Center pass may use locker room and shower facilities.

No person who is visibly intoxicated or under the influence of federally prohibited substances shall be admitted to or permitted to remain upon the premises or the Recreation Center.

All guests use the Recreation Center programs and facilities at their own risk.

Age restrictions apply throughout the facility.

We ask that all guests be considerate of other users and visitors in the building. Please dress appropriately and use appropriate language while in the facility or participating in programs.

In order to provide you with the best experience possible, we ask that you please be aware of high usage times. These include early morning (before work), early evening (after work), poor weather days and holidays. Please plan your visits accordingly.

Alcohol is not permitted in the Recreation Center, except during sanctioned events.

The consumption of alcohol and/or federally prohibited substances is prohibited while participating in any and all Recreation Department programs or facilities.

Private instruction is not permitted in public facilities.

NATIONAL RUNNING DAY FUN RUN

(AGES 5 & UP)

Free!

Come celebrate National Running Day with a

chance for you to kick off your summer on

the right foot! This is a great opportunity to

jumpstart the Summit Trail Running Series or

just to go out and enjoy the outdoors. Light

refreshments will be provide for all

participants. There will be no timing or prizes

for this event. Adult 5k is dependent upon

trail conditions. Complete a Sports Waiver

before the start of the race. Meet in front of

the Breckenridge Recreation Center.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 10K TRAIL RUN

(AGES 5 & UP)

Start your holiday weekend off right with the

7th Annual Independence Day 10k. This

scenic 10k trail running race offers up some

of the best views in the Breckenridge area,

while finishing just in time to catch the Main

Street parade and other festivities. The race

will have a wave start which will be assigned

by age. If you would like to run as a family,

please start in the final wave, which will be

"Kids 10 and Under". The first 300 people to

register will receive a North Face technical

tee. Race starts & finishes at Carter Park.

Pre-Register by 7/3 at 12pm.

HUNKY DORY HALF MARATHON

(AGES 12 & UP)

Join us for the 3nd Annual Breckenridge Trail

Half Marathon! As you cruise along the 13.1

mile race, take in the scenery of the beautiful

trails in Breckenridge as well as part of the

town's history. The course has three aid

stations that include first aid, water and food.

Aid stations are located at miles 3.2, 7.5 and

10.2. Each runner receives a race t-shirt

and lunch at the finish. This race is limited to

200 registrants. The race starts in the Vista

Point Park in Breckenridge, on the corner of

Wellington and Reiling Road. Restrooms and

water are available prior to the start of the

race, but will not be available on the course.

Limited parking is available in the Stilson Lot,

located off of Wellington Road - carpooling is

encouraged. A completed Sports Waiver is

required before the start of the race.

COED KICKBALL LEAGUE (AGES 18 & UP)

$275/Team

Come out with your friends on Sunday afternoons

this summer and get down on some good ole

kickball action! Teams need a minimum of 9

players (at least 3 females). Games are officiated

and start on the hour from 4:00-7:00pm at

varying locations in Breckenridge. A mandatory

captain’s and free agent meeting is on Monday,

June 17 at 6:00pm in the Breckenridge

Recreation Center. The last day to register a

team is Sunday, June 16 by 6:00pm. Post-

season play is on the last two Sundays of the

season (August 18 and 25). Team captains are

responsible for collecting rosters and Sports

Waivers from all players on their team.

QUICKSTICK LACROSSE TOURNAMENT (18 & UP)

Men's lacrosse comes to the High Country for two

days of intense play. The tournament is open to

players of all abilities, ages 18 and 40 years old

(absolutely no exceptions). The Quickstick

Lacrosse Tournament features only one

competitive bracket this summer. The

Competitive Division is for teams who play at a

higher, more intense level. All teams must

register by Sunday, August 18 by 5:00pm – no

exceptions. Team captains are responsible for

collecting rosters and Sports Waivers before the

start of the tournament. Please call 970-453-

1734 for more information or to register.

Early Bird: $500 (May 1-July 1)

Regular: $550 (July 2-August 1)

SUMMIT TRAIL RUNNING SERIES

Join us this summer season as we start the

12th year of the Summit Trail Running

Series. The Series consists of 6 trail running

races in and around the Breckenridge area.

Each race features a short and long course,

and all races are open to runners of all

abilities and ages. There are no aid stations

on the courses; this Series will be cup-free.

Participants MUST bring a reusable water

bottle to the races.

These sessions are a great way to get the jolt

needed to begin triathlon training, or meet

personal swimming and fitness goals. The class

will be coached by professional athlete Jaime

Brede who has competed in over 300 events in

her career. She also has a background as a

swim coach and a swim instructor. Participants

must be comfortable with three strokes

(freestyle, back, and breast stroke). Participants

This class teaches American Red Cross CPR/AED

and First Aid Certification for the Lay Responder.

This course offers Cardiopulmonary

Resuscitation (CPR) techniques used on adults,

infants and children. It also teaches how to

respond to injuries and sudden illness in a

systematic manner. The first two nights cover

CPR/AED and the third covers first aid. The

certification is valid for two years for CPR/AED

and three years for First Aid. The class fee

includes a workbook.

Do you or your child need some assistance to

help develop swimming skills? If group lessons

don't quite fit into your needs, private lessons

can offer a solution. Private lessons are

designed to provide one-on-one instruction for all

ages and levels of swimming in a fun and

comfortable environment. We also offer semi-

private swim lessons for small groups of

swimmers. Our instructors work with groups of

up to 3 swimmers of similar abilities to improve

their skills. Swim lesson punch passes are

BRECK COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAM (AGES 6-11)

Take your swimming to the next level! We attend

and compete in swim meets throughout the

season. All participants must be able to swim

three competitive strokes (freestyle, back and

breast stroke) for two laps. Coach Stu Gates

helps develop stroke technique, endurance, and

provides fun and challenging practices.

Evaluations for prospective Swim Team members

are held on Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30pm-

6:00pm in the lap pool at the Recreation Center.

We spend the first two days in the gym in

Breck learning some new skills and

refreshing others from. On Thursday and

Friday, we depart Summit County for

Independence Pass and Monitor Rock in

beautiful Lake County for full days of

climbing. On Thursday and Friday

participants depart Breckenridge each day at

8:00am and will return to the Rec Center at

4:00pm. All participants be responsible for

lunch each day and be required to have a

backpack, sunscreen, plenty of water (2L or

more), rain gear and extra layers. To register

for this program, participants must have

attended Intermediate Climbing Camp within

the past 3 years or must receive approval

from a Climbing Wall Instructor or the

Outdoor Programs Coordinator.

NATURE & PHOTOGRAPHY CLINIC

The Breckenridge Recreation

Department is proud to announce the

introduction of our new Nature Photography

Clinics. Join our professional photographer on a

5 hour clinic designed to improve your nature

photography skills. We begin by meeting at the

Stephen C. West Ice Arena lobby for a brief

orientation to the day. After that we provide

transportation to our designated trail head to

begin our hike. Throughout the hike we have

plenty of opportunities to stop, ask questions

and share tips and tricks. At the conclusion of

our hike we return to the Ice Arena to allow for

some photo review and a discussion of editing.

All students must have their own DSLR camera,

water bottles, rain gear and clothing

appropriate to the weather. Remember

mountain weather can change quickly! Bringing

a snack is highly encouraged.

have dried, the bikes are out, and it is time to

for our weeklong mountain bike camps. Each

morning we will head out to a select Summit

County trail system to ride and refine our skills

on the bike while enjoying the beautiful scenery

the high country has to offer. All participants

must have some prior mountain biking

experience, an appropriate and well tuned bike,

and a helmet. Participants and are strongly

encouraged to bring their own water, a snack,

rain gear and an extra layer.

HIGH ALTITUDE HERITAGE CAMP

(AGES 7-12)

Join the Breckenridge Recreation

Department as we journey through time to

discover why people are drawn to this high

alpine haven in the Colorado Rockies. We

start our adventures by exploring the earliest

days where Native Americans and great

buffalo herds filled the valley. Our

explorations will continue with an

introduction to the fur trappers and traders.

The next stop will be a firsthand experience

with our rich mining heritage. Finally, we will

have a chance to express what we love

about the mountains, and what draws us to

them today. Days will include game-based

activities and interactive hiking destinations

throughout our environment and its wild

places. Campers will meet at the Climbing

Wall at 7:55am.

WILD CHILD WILDERNESS CAMP

Take a walk on the wild side with the

Breckenridge Recreation Department, as we

spend time hiking and exploring around the

wild places of Breckenridge. Being on a trail

in the mountains exposes children to

wonders they never thought they would

experience. Hikes are made to be especially

kid-friendly as we stop for trail-side activities

and games. Topics include map and

compass use, trail signs, camouflage,

animals, plants, backcountry cooking, Leave

No Trace principles, and more. Along with

our planned educational camp activities, we

build in time everyday for children to just

play in the woods. A chance to escape from

our busy schedules to experience

unstructured time in nature can do wonders

for a child's social, physical, and emotional

development! Participants meet at the

climbing wall in the Rec Center at 7:55am

each morning of camp.

basics of shooting a bow & arrow? Well look no

The Aces of Archery class focuses on teaching

participants patience, accuracy and how to keep

a steady hand and eye while shooting a bow and

arrow. This class is geared for beginners who are

looking to get involved with the ever-growing

sport of archery. Equipment rental is included

with registration. This is a five week session-

based class. No drop-ins allowed. Complete a

This tumbling class is more skill-oriented and

SKATEBOARD PARK TRIPS (AGES 8-14)

Learned some new tricks at Skateboard

Camp? This program offers our youth

skateboarders the chance to visit other

skateboard parks around the state! The

participants are required to have a helmet,

skateboard and lunch packed on this trip.

Pads are optional. All parents must sign a

waiver before the trip leaves. This program is

open to the first 12 participants who sign up.

Bus will leave the Rec Center at 9:15am and

will return at 4:15pm. Particpants MUST

register by the Friday prior to the trip, no

exceptions. Trips may be postponed/

cancelled due to inclement weather, the

Outdoor Programs Coordinator will have the

final say in this situation. In the event of a

cancellation, trip money will be refunded.

hiking and jumping on our giant Inflatable

Obstacle Course! Not to mention going CRAZY

and being kids!!! The Breckenridge Mountain

Camp or the 'BMC' is not just your typical

summer day camp program. We have the best

staff in all of Summit County, delivering some of

the most enjoyable and exhilarating programs

around! BMC offers your child a fun and positive

experience that will enrich and satisfy him or her

all day long. BMC offers programs based on skill

development, guided discovery and a choice of

amazing activities that foster healthy outdoor

fun. BMC is focused on building character

through recreation. BMC is a state licensed

program for children ages 5-12 and each child

will be placed into groups according to his/her

JUNE 3 - BLAST-OFF INTO SPACE Planets, moon,

stars and astronauts! Discover more about the

universe and how planet Earth fits in! Learn about the

newest NASA technologies and discoveries during our

field trip to the Denver Planetarium.

JUNE 10 - WILD ANIMAL KINGDOM Lions, tigers and

bears, oh my! What’s your favorite animal? This week

we visit the Denver Zoo and learn more about animals

in our climate and from all over the world.

JUNE 17 - PIKE’S PEAK OR BUST! Bank robbers,

gold, miners and mountain settlers! This week we

learn about historic mountain culture and how our first

settlers survived here. We go gold panning, make

candles, discover old mining ruins and visit a working

mine here in Summit County.

JUNE 24 - AMAZING RACE Camp jump starts the

week with a camp-wide scavenger hunt through town!

JULY 2 - PARTY IN THE USA New this year! Campers

create their very own 4th of July Float that will be

featured in the Town of Breckenridge’s 4th of July

how the Hulk got so strong or how Aquaman can swim

so fast? Find out this week as campers learn how to

form healthy habits for life all while acting like their

favorite Super Heroes. Who knew exercise could be so

JULY 15 - MAD SCIENTISTS Explosions, gooey

messes and rocket launches! Just a typical day during

our Mad Scientist week! Learn all about the world

around us during our excursion to the Denver Museum

of Nature and Science!

JULY 22 - SPLISH SPLASH! Enjoy a week of water

balloons, slip 'n' slides, sprinklers, squirt gun fights

and the ultimate obstacle course! Don’t forget your

swimsuit and, of course, a trip to Water World!

JULY 29 - UNDER THE SEA Campers will love this

week’s field trip to the Denver Aquarium. Campers

experience a flash flood and even see real mermaids!

BEARLY BIG CHILD CARE

(2 MONTHS-6 YEARS)

The Bearly Big Child Care Center offers

state-licensed childcare service for

Recreation Center guests while using the

Breckenridge Recreation Center facilities

and programs (parents must remain on-

site). Child care is provided for children

ages 2 months through 6 years of age for

a maximum of two hours. Infants under 1

year may only stay in Bearly Big for a

maximum of 1 hour. Drop-ins are allowed

from 8:45-11:00am. Reservations are

required for childcare after 11:00am.

Daily passes and punch passes must be

purchased at the Front Desk.

Fees: Non-Member: $10 per child/hour

Member: $8 per child/hour*

*Punch Passes & second child discount

available.

Want to skate with friends and save money?

If your group has 10 or more people, call the ice

arena to make your reservation at least two

weeks in advance, and bring one total payment

on the day that you skate (single check or credit

RENTALS

The Stephen C. West Ice Arena has two multi-

purpose rooms available for a nominal rental fee.

Both the North and South rooms accommodate

up to 40 people each and share a small kitchen

area. The kitchen amenities include a sink,

refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. The

entire facility (ice rental and multi-purpose

rooms) is also available for private, corporate and

company parties and events, weddings and

gatherings.

BIRTHDAY & PARTY PACKAGES

Birthday cake, skating with friends, and

presents… what more could a kid want? Our

birthday packages include 60 minutes in our

party room, skating and skate rental, and a

message on our scoreboard for the guest of

honor. A deposit for a minimum of 10 guests is

required to book your party! Please make your

reservations at least two weeks in advance. Pizza

and cake are available as part of the package if

desired.

STICK & PUCK SESSIONS

Helmet + stick + skates = ready for some stick

and puck action! Novices and visitors welcome!

Sticks, helmets and skates are available for

rental. Come prepared to practice your hockey

skills by yourself or with friends. Sorry, no

scrimmaging is allowed at these sessions.

Helmets are required, and full gear is

recommended.

SUMMER BRECK ADULT SKATING SCHOOL BASIC

(AGES 16 & UP)

Breckenridge Skating School offers Adult Basic 1

(ISI Equivalent: Alpha/Beta) for ages 16 and up

who have never skated or are learning to stand

up and skate forwards across the ice rink.

Forward stroking, forward crossovers, one foot

glides and snowplow stops are introduced and

mastered. Backward skating skills, three turns,

Mohawks, t-stops and hockey stops are also

introduced. Summer Skating School Classes are

held on the indoor rink which is approximately 48

degrees, so please dress in warm, comfortable

clothing. Mittens or gloves and snow pants are

highly recommended for new skaters or for

skaters learning new skills as they may spend

some time on the ice.

standing, skating, and stopping. Skaters are

introduced to marching across the ice,

INTERMEDIATE TOTS (AGES 3-5)

Breckenridge Skating School offers an

Intermediate Tots class (ISI Equivalent:

Alpha/Beta) for little skaters who are have

already mastered basic stopping and skating

skills, and can skate confidently on their own

the length of the ice arena. Forward stroking,

swizzles, half swizzles, one-foot glides on

straight lines and edges are introduced, along

with forward crossovers. Skaters are

introduced to backward skating. Summer

Skating School Classes are held on the indoor

rink which is approximately 48 degrees, so

HOCKEY SUMMER ADULT C LEAGUE (18 & UP)

$1,650/Team

The C League is designed to give one more

competitive level to the recreational leagues and

should comprise the strongest recreation level

teams. There is no gender requirement and slap

shots are allowed. Higher level players are

expected to play down to this level in order to be

allowed to participate. This is a non-checking

league. There are 10 regular season games and

the top four teams advance to single elimination

playoffs. The maximum number of teams in this

league is 8. League play is on Wednesday and

Sunday nights.

The D League is a coed league for the novice

player wanting to enjoy the recreational

experience of ice hockey. This is a non-checking

teams advance to single elimination playoffs.

The maximum number of teams in this league is

14. League play is on Thursday and Friday

nights.

HOCKEY SUMMER ADULT OPEN LEAGUE

(18 & UP)

This is a competitive division with many former

college, junior hockey and high school hockey

players. This is a non-checking league. Players

must understand the rules of the game and the

action is fast paced. This is the highest level of

play available at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena

during the summer months, consisting of players

from both the "A" and "B" Leagues. We will not

entertain challenges for eligibility based on

playing ability. There are 10 regular season

games and the top four teams advance to single

elimination playoffs. The maximum number of

teams in this league is 10. League play is on

Sunday and Monday nights.

HOCKEY LEAGUE (AGES 18 & UP)

Are you always at the rink watching your son,

daughter, husband, boyfriend or friends play

hockey? Do you wish that you had a league of

your own to learn how to play the game

yourself? Come join our Breck Betties Hockey

League! This league has one coached

practice, nine games and two play-off games.

Players must be 18 or older and all levels of

players are welcome to join this exciting

league. Full gear is required and may be

rented or purchased at the Ice Arena’s full

service Pro Shop. The last day to register is

June 4.

MINI MITES (AGES 3-7)

Just because you're mini, doesn't mean you

can't play hockey! Get a head start on the

sport in this class designed specifically for the

beginner hockey player. If your child has

never skated before, we recommend enrolling

him/her in our Tots Breck Skating School

class (available Tuesdays or Fridays) before

participating in this class because skating

skills are REQUIRED for Mini Mites. Full

hockey equipment is required for all

participants. No Class on Friday, July 5th.

Start the Fall season off right! Come to

Breckenridge to play in the Annual Women's

Oktoberfest Hockey Tournament as well as

enjoy fun, food and beverages on

Breckenridge Main Street during our

Oktoberfest Celebration September 13-15.

This is an adult round-robin tournament with

a three game guarantee. There are three

divisions of play: Women's A, B1 and B2.

Registration ends on Monday, September 2

at 5:00pm. Full payment is due with

registration. There are no spectator fees.
