WelCoMeWe at Bridge The World are so passionate about travel that we just think everyone should be doing it, all the time, all over the world. Simply put, we just love helping people get away, and because we’ve been doing it for a very long time, we’ve become rather good at it.

For years we have been showing students the way to go through STA Travel – the world’s leading student and youth travel specialist and whom you may already know. Some of you may have backpacked with us in your 20’s and suitcased with us in your 30’s.

We didn’t want to stop there, we wanted to be your travel partner for life, so we launched our sister company, Bridge The World to continue our tradition of presenting the best of the world at the best prices. And by the way, we won’t be beaten on price so bear that in mind if you do so happen to ever find the same holiday cheaper anywhere else! A flick through the following pages will hopefully inspire you to escape our little Island for a week or two. Inside is just a small selection of some of our favourite holiday ideas - all carefully handpicked by our team of specialists at Bridge the World.

Whatever your travel needs, requirements, wishes or dreams - we’d love to hear from you.

HOTEL OF THE MONTH: AUSTRALIA

Hotel of the month... liZArd iSlANd, AuSTrAliAThis is unfettered luxury in a natural

paradise completely secluded from the rest of the world. One island with

24 powdery white sand beaches, a stunning reef brimming with weird and wonderful life, a thriving eco-system abounding with native flora and fauna – but only one hotel with just 40 luxurious suites. This is where you go to escape annoyingly persistent mobile phones, eternal days of drizzle, noisy city streets, microwave meals and every other disadvantage everyday life brings you. Replace squealing phones with squawking parrots, cloudy skies with tropical temperatures, urban congestion with deserted beaches and tedious food with some of the finest and freshest cuisine on the planet.

Covering 1,013 hectares, Lizard Island is the most northerly Great Barrier Reef Resort – all of the amazing marine life that this part of the world is renowned for is found in abundance in the reef that surrounds the island. This is truly a divers paradise. For those who want a more gentle introduction to water, a quick snorkel off the shore will also open your

eyes to some amazing sea creatures. Your days here can quite rightly be all

about doing absolutely nothing, but if you prefer a little activity now and again – options include diving/snorkeling, fishing trips, hiring a motorized dinghy or a game of tennis or alternatively or why not pull yourself from your sun lounger and stroll down to the spa for a life affirming massage.

The one thing we simply have to mention about Lizard Island is the food – a stay here is ‘all inclusive’ – and that means the finest 5 star cuisine. Choose to eat at the idyllically located Ospreys Restaurant, by the beach with a specially prepared picnic or why not enjoy the Sunset Beach

all of this and much more PAll Inclusive rate includes fine

Degustation menu – seven courses created exclusively by the executive chef.

Even getting to this remote paradise isn’t overly stressful - we can book you on a 60 minute flight from Cairns that will take you directly to the island’s little airstrip. Cairns Airport is accessible from all major Australian cities. But if any doubts still linger that this is your future favorite place on the planet, then pay heed to the countless awards the resort has won – it consistently makes the ‘top ten hotels in the world’ list, and this year it won the 2012 Australian Gourmet Traveller Award for “Best Resort or Lodge”.

HOTEL OF THE MONTH: AUSTRALIA

Hotel of the month... loNg beACh, MAuriTiuSNestling on the edge of one of the

island’s longest, widest and most beautiful natural beaches, this

sparklingly new resort obliterates any stresses or strains and transforms them into a serene state of happiness. The Long Beach offers all the piercing blues skies, lapping ocean waters and white sandy landscapes that are almost mandatory in Mauritius, but in addition it presents a fresh and unique type of resort experience. Contemporary and chic, the Long Beach has been built around the concept of “Italian life” – the lively central Square has an air of the Dolce Vita, the real heart of the hotel, surrounded by restaurants, bars and boutiques.

Waking up here is a joy, as your ears attune to nothing but the gentle swish of the sea and the faint squawk of a lonely sea bird – arise from your heavenly bed and gaze at your glorious private view of the endless ocean before you wander barefoot directly onto the beach (every room has a

HOTEL OF THE MONTH: MAURITIUS

minimum of 109m of its own beach space). Your day ahead may consist of a snorkelling expedition through the crystal clear waters and rare coral formations of the tropical lagoon, a whack around on one of the three floodlit tennis courts, a game of golf on a nearby course (guests have access to Le Touessrok Golf Course, designed by Bernhard Langer) or a guided mountain bike excursion. For those that want something altogether less active visit the spa for an hour or three, or simply position yourself in and around the 1400m heated pool.

day brings nightAs the evening draws in and the sultry sunshine is slowly replaced by the ethereal glow of Mauritian moonlight - the entire resort assumes a mildly energetic buzz. All the five fantastic restaurants come to life with the aromas of Italian, Japanese, Chinese and all kinds of delicious seafood, while the clink of glasses and the pouring

of wine accompanied with variable symphonies of little laughs is heard here, there and everywhere. Half Board comes as standard at Long Beach, and with such a varied choice of cuisine, every night means something new and amazing to try.

With a huge wealth of facilities and a myriad of settings, we would recommend Long Beach for just everybody - romantic couples, families or just those looking to escape for a week or two, all will find an ambience just right for them

For the average family there’s always the annual dilemma of trying to find a holiday which enables the children to have some freedom and at the same time allow parents to relax, unwind and finally enjoy the break they’ve worked so hard for all year; A time to switch off from the constant tidying up, turning on the washing machine, organizing child minding… and so it goes on! But this is all about trying to get you out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary so here are a few ideas that won’t burn your pocket but will fire your fancy.

The Indian Ocean is fast becoming a favourite for families, with more resorts expanding their facilities to

meet demand. In actual fact, it’s becoming a destination that caters for all types of holidaymakers because by its nature it has something for everyone, including reliably warm and sunny weather all year round.

Sri Lanka boasts a rich culture, a diverse history, super friendly locals and some of the best beaches in the world. And if you want to try something different why not go on a leopard safari or jump on an elephant.

FAMILY HOLIDAYS

Given that Dubai is a six and a half hour flight away from London, it might not be the most obvious family

destination, however we can assure you that it’s definitely worth the journey. John from our London office recently visited with his young family and this is what he had to say about it...

Firstly it’s clean and safe with impeccable customer service - where the chills and spills of children dining out are camouflaged by waiting staff. Travelling through customs is equally seamless with separate immigration

More and more parents are catching onto the idea that travel is the best education money

can buy. Instead of sending your little ones off to the Kids Club while you laze on the beach, why not do something adventurous and far removed from what you might consider a ‘normal’ family

holiday? For the brave and bold of you out there, that age old saying that ‘life is too short’ really does resonate here.

Fortunately, with our heritage of STA Travel, we have a huge range of options all around the world – take a campervan trip across Australia, participate in a volunteer projects and interact with local

lines for young families. Culturally, it’s a ‘toe in the water’ to experience a world very different to home but with the added bonus of totally international cuisine to suit all tastes which, as we all know, can be fussy for some!

The only thing to look out for is the time of year you visit; best times are the half term holidays where temperatures are a steady 25-30 degrees. One novel way to cool down would be jumping in the water with the Dolphins at Atlantis Palm Hotel – here’s a little picture of my daughter being totally blown away by the experience.

Patagonia is nature at its most wild and untamed; Torres del Paine National Parks’ rugged mountain ranges, forests that play host to soaring condors and the Perito Moreno Glacier are just a few of the wonders you’ll encounter on this tour.

Sample seafood in Lima, explore ruins and haggle at local markets in the Sacred Valley, head out with professional guides on a camping trek across the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and enjoy a traditional dinner show when you return to Cuzco

Explore the remote island of Ilha Grande on foot, cruise on a schooner to pristine islands and beaches while sipping a caipirinha, wander the colonial streets of Paraty, stand under the spray of Iguassu Falls and feel the energy of Rio de Janeiro.

4 days of cruising and swimming the Galapagos Islands, visit Charles Darwin Research Station and encounter totally unique wildlife – all snorkelling gear is provided. Retire to air-conditioned cabins with exclusive lower berths and private bathrooms.

Delve deep into the Amazon and experience all kinds of wonderful wildlife while staying at an exclusive lodge. Trek the iconic Inca Trail and watch the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Finish up with a trip to the floating islands of Lake Titicaca.

Share a traditional Brazilian barbecue meal with a local family, dance the samba in Rio, sip a caipirinha on the beach in Southern Brazil, be awed by the mighty Iguassu Falls, sample the food, wine and sophistication of Buenos Aires.

There is a wonderful exoticism about South America – the whole continent has an ethereal quality,

you truly feel like you are somewhere a million miles removed from your normal life. How can you feel any other way whilst you’re trekking up a cloudy Peruvian Mountain Pass to a lost Incan City, or cruising in between little islands populated by alien like wildlife or catching sight of the awe-inspiring Christ Redeemer for the first time as the sun rises over Rio.

south americaTravelling independently in South America

isn’t always the best way to go. For those who want to see and experience as much as they possibly can - trying to intricately organise travel arrangements and booking the right hotels while still managing your budget can be an extremely stressful task. And once you’re on the ground, be prepared that not many locals will speak English. For this reason, we reckon that travelling as part of pre-organised small group tour is the best way to maximise your South America experience.

‘G Adventures’ and Bridge the World have teamed up to offer you a huge range of small group tours in South America. We guarantee expert English speaking guides, a group size of all ages that won’t exceed 16 in number (the average is 10), comfortable, well equipped accommodation and the highest standard of touring vehicles. Many also include a number of meals and plenty of handpicked day tours. We’ve chosen six of our favourites trips. Please enquire for many more options…

Destination of the month... SeNToSA iSlANd, SiNgAporeOver the past 15 years, Sentosa Island in Singapore has been quietly growing

and expanding its experience for visitors. The mainland has been a very popular Asian destination for a very long time

and a favourite stopover en route to Australia and New Zealand. But with the main aim of getting more visitors to stay longer in Singapore, Sentosa Island has developed and fast become the ideal Asian destination for holidaymakers with a number of sandy beaches, family resort hotels, leisure parks, an exclusive harbour and a world renowned golf course. In fact, it’s curious that all this development seems to have escaped the eye of travel press and magazines in the UK given its appeal as an alternative Asian beach hotspot. Sentosa Island is worth getting to know.

This combination gives an insight into two very different worlds – from the azure blue sea and the coral fringed atolls of the Maldives to the temples, wildlife and scenery of Sri Lanka. This is the ultimate ‘beach and big 5’ combo. Mauritius is a tropical island paradise, where you can do as much or as little as you like. CITY BREAKS

WeekeNd breAkS

We can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend than in the heart of the famous Big Apple. Prepare for your jaw to be permanently dropped as you gaze in awe at the multitude of iconic sites – stand afoot the Statue of Liberty, admire the city from atop the Empire State Building or spot movie sites as you stroll through Central Park. In the evening catch a show on Broadway or be soothed by soft sounds in a local jazz lounge. New York may be the city that never sleeps but your centrally located hotel will ensure you start each day ready for new explorations.

Visit romantic Venice, most famous for Gondolas, marriage proposals, lots of little islands, bridges, lack of cars, and masked balls. Undoubtedly, the best way to get around the town is by Gondola, along Venice’s many beautiful canals. In between mesmerising art galleries and museums the most enjoyable thing to do in Venice is to find a little café, buy a bottle of wine and sit with your loved one and watch the world go by. Absorb the wonderful setting and let the day pass you by in total relaxation as evening draws in, hunt out a little side street restaurant and sample delicious Italian food.

There’s no better way to finish up a dull week at the office than escaping to the blue skies and sunshine of dazzling Miami. Famous beaches perfect for running, walking or people watching, unique art-deco architecture and vibrant Latin American culture fuse together for a city vibe like no other. Like any good city, shops are plentiful and those looking for something different will be amused by the bizarre Renaissance-style Vizcaya Museum or enjoy rubbing shoulders with a plethora of rare and endangered animals at the vast Miami Zoo. Hip, arty and beautiful; Miami will not disappoint.

For just three nights, push aside any cynicism, lose every inhibition, open your wallet and prepare to experience the amazing city of Las Vegas - everyone must visit here at least once in their life. Vegas is everything you expect it to be lines of glimmering casinos, eternally flashing lights, brilliantly garish hotels, burgers as big as your head and a nightlife that you won’t be able to resist. In addition to that there is always a huge choice of world-class shows to choose from every night. During the day, why not jump on a helicopter tour out to the Grand Canyon (hangover permitting).

It’s important to intersperse your year with a few little jaunts away, for a change of scenery and a splash of spice away from the daily routine. Europe is the obvious choice for many, but there are places further afield still in easy reach for a long weekend away.
