ISL In-flight Compression
• In-flight Compression to drive up link utilization (& reduce per Gb cost)
• 2:1 Ratio; Algorithm McLZO
• 128Gbps of in-flight compression BW on E-Ports in 16Gb blade
• Can be distributed over optics of various speed
• It is recommended to double the number of buffers
• 4 ports per ASIC (64Gbps), 8 ports per 16G port blade
• Disk or tape traffic gets compressed on ISL and gets uncompressed at the
receiving switch
• Requires no license and can be used in conjunction with in-flight encryption

ISL In-flight Encryption
• In-flight Encryption of disk & tape data during replication
• Algorithm AES-GCM ECB mode using 256 bit encryption key
• 64Gbps of in-flight encryption BW on E-Ports in 16Gb blade
• Switch-to-switch encryption, not device encryption
• Keys don’t expire as long as the link stays active
• New set of keys enabled upon port disable/enable
• Port level authentication must be enabled before enabling encryption
• Both are offered as part of base 16Gb blade offering without any license

Diagnostic port D_Port: Advanced Diagnostics for Brocade 16G SFP+
© 2012 Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. 21
• Provides the following capabilities:
• Performs electrical loopback
• Performs optical loopback
• Measures link distance
• Performs link saturation test
• D_Port is meant to diagnose optics and cables
• D_Port is a new port type, configured by the
user to run diagnostics
• Does not carry any FC control or data traffic
• Supported only on ISL ports (E_Ports) configured
as D_Ports (ICL support in future release)
