he B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) programme at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University has been designed to stimulate and sharpen the legal acumen of Tstudents to make them apt for meeting the challenging needs of the legal
world in the present scenario. The faculty at Dr. RMLNLU has constantly endeavoured to revolutionize legal education by employing modern methods of teaching, honing their students for higher roles in the society. It has been my earnest attempt to instill in my students, a sense of professionalism backed by sound knowledge of law by paying close attention to not only bookish knowledge but also to practical aspects of legal training.
With these fundamentals being the hallmark throughout their education, I proudly present the batch of 2008-2013 to the legal community. Handpicked from different corners of the country after clearing the challenging first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the batch of 160 students has a special place in my heart. The batch from its inception has exhibited exemplary maturity, realising that the University being in its infancy, it was their duty to put the name of the university on the world map. Time is testimony that the students of this batch have contributed not only to the well being of the University, but also in making its presence felt in all spheres of legal learning.
With this missionary zeal I humbly solicit your gracious presence in this University to make these students a part of your esteemed organisation, enabling them to contribute in ever-changing legal dynamics of the world. I sincerely hope that this exercise will prove to be a foundation stone for a stable and lasting relationship between your prestigious organisation and Dr. RMLNLU. We welcome you here to our beautiful campus and would like you to experience our hospitality.
With Best Wishes,

t gives me great pleasure to write a message for the organisation for the students
of B.A., LL.B (Hons.) – Batch 2008-13. The Third Batch of B.A., LL.B (Hons.)
Course of this University, ready to fly high for excellence, are more fortunate Ienough than the previous Batches. During the course of their study, the University
has become more richer than before in the courses of its study, Faculty, Library,
infrastructure and in many other respects. Presently, the University is gradually
transforming from its stage of a crawling baby towards maturity. All this has
provided the Third Batch of students more exposure to knowledge, skill, training and
has equipped them to help the University to achieve our objective – to develop a sense
of responsibility in them to serve the society and the nation. We have trained them, as
what Mahatma Gandhi wanted, 'to be honest to one's duty'. During all these years, as
Dean (Academics) and as their guardian, I have personally known each and every
student of the Third Batch and I will miss them when they leave this Temple of
Learning. However, I have every hope that they will have a bright prospect ahead
with success in the present tough competitive legal field or any other field that they
choose.
I may conclude in the words of the great man, Swami Vivekananda, they are
like 'a young eagle soaring higher and higher, gathering more and more strength to
reach to the Excellence'.

It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to
their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to question it.
~Jacob Bronowski
he changing paradigm of legal education in India has changed the perception about
means and methods of learning law – as we call it, "first unlearn and then learn"-where Tthe students are allowed to challenge the old doctrines suggesting new ones. Dr. Ram
Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (Dr. RMLNLU), has not only been a
witness to the winds of change sweeping the landscape of legal education in India in the past
few years but has also been a proud participant in the process. The pride of place, which
Dr. RMLNLU enjoys amongst the law schools, is mainly due to the laurels brought by its
students and accolades won by them.
It gives me immense pleasure to introduce to you a batch of budding lawyers who got
admitted to this law school through the very first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) in the
year 2008, going to graduate in the year 2013. This starry-eyed bunch of talented students has
built an excellent super-structure of excellence in varied fields of academia. Be it prestigious
National and International Moots; Writing and Debating; Seminars and Symposia; Sports and
Cultural events, the Batch of 2008-2013 has come out with flying colors, setting new bench-
mark for their junior Batches.
During their five-year long stay on the Dr. RMLNLU campus, besides being exposed to
a rigorous curriculum in law and allied disciplines, these students have also imbibed now-
rare moral values and therefore, look at the socio-legal issues from a blend of pragmatic and
ethical perspective.
I take this opportunity to invite you to be part of the Recruitment Process for the Batch
of 2008-2013 at our campus. As the Faculty advisor of the Internship and Placement
Committee, it would be my proud privilege to host you at Dr. RMLNLU and extend to you our
warmest hospitality.

e, at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, are striking for
excellence. My association with this batch fills me with a sense of immense pride Wand satisfaction.
The B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) course offered by our University is uniquely designed to meet
the modern day needs of the legal profession, not restricted merely to litigation and corporate
world but also towards nascent and developing juristic issues. The underlying spirit is to
constantly endeavor towards establishing ourselves as torchbearers in legal education. The
course puts our students through rigorous programme aimed at training them to anticipate,
adapt and formulate a suitable response to the ever-changing challenges of legal profession
certainties.
The focus is not merely on theoretical and practical knowledge of law but students are
encouraged to inculcate in them, interpersonal skills decision-making abilities, teamwork and
an upbeat attitude towards life. The legal finesse of our students can be evidenced from our
meritorious achievements in spheres like moot courts and international scholarships. During
the limited time of our existence, we have gradually become a pre-eminent name in the
juridical fraternity.
A major strength of the University is an accomplished and motivated faculty aspiring to
guide the eager young minds into becoming worthy flag bearers of the legal fraternity.
It has been my pleasure to see the students blossom into promising lawyers and good
human beings. I am convinced that the students of this batch would establish themselves as
doyens in their respective fields and establish new epoch in standards of legal professionalism
in India and abroad.

1. Debate and Discussion Committee: The Debate & Discussion Committee was formed in February 2009 with the idea of sharpening the debating skills of the students of the university. Being budding lawyers, it must be second nature for all students to be able to express themselves in a gathering. The DDC organises regular intra-university competitions for Parliamentary Debates and organises 'Tarka`', a debating league which runs throughout the semester, at the end of which the league winners are announced.
2. Moot Court Committee: Moot courts are rapidly becoming an essential tool for holistic legal education. At the beginning of every year, the MCC organises the university moot court selections on the basis of which all teams are allocated their moots for the forthcoming year. Other initiatives like a student coach and a liaison person have been introduced for ensuring that all teams can perform to their full potential. The committee organised the Bar Council of India Moot Court Competition in the year 2008, the First UP Bar Council National Moot Court Competition, 2008, The Louis M. Brown Client Counselling Competition, 2009 and The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition- North India rounds 2010 and 2011. Apart from this the committee has organised several interactive workshops for students in the University. A freshers moot, titled 'CONCOURS' is organized, exclusively for the 1st year students, so as to allow them to learn and grasp the skills involved in mooting.
3. Legal Aid Committee: Recognising the potential of law as an instrument of change, the Legal Aid Committee operates the Legal Service Cell which functions as a Community Legal Clinic in Courts. The LAC has been instrumental in promoting the usage of RTI as a tool for information gathering and it also organizes literacy camps for the underprivileged sections of society, especially children. The LAC also organized the 1st National Mediation Competition, 2012 which saw tremendous participation from within the country.
4. Internship & Placement Committee: The internship & placement committee is the link between the students of the university and the legal fraternity. Every year, the committee forwards CVs of students from all batches to various law firms and other organisations for the purpose of internships and also initiates the process of placements for the outgoing batch. The committee ensures the concern of the university's students by providing them with internships in their respective fields of interest. For placements, the committee provides the basic groundwork through which firms can approach the students for recruitment.
5. Journal Committee: The journal committee is in charge of the RMLNLU journal which is released bi-annually. All articles submitted are evaluated by the members of the committee who then decide the ones which are fit for
publication. Apart from the journal, the committee also organises the immensely successful week-long intra-university literary fest; 'Eos' where there are a variety of literary events organised
solely for university students.
6. Student Welfare Committee: This committee is responsible for taking forward the grievances of the student body and placing them before the university
administration. Since every student cannot approach the administration directly, the committee's role becomes all the more relevant so as to ensure that the
problems and expectations of the students are being met by the university. On the initiative of the committee, the university canteen has been refurbished
and many initiatives such as an anti-polybag campaign have been taken up to increase the awareness of the students.
7. SPOCULIT: SPOCULIT is the cultural fest organised by Dr RMLNLU. The fest began in 2010 and since then has seen an enormous increase in student participation with colleges from all over the country participating in it. The fest has sports, cultural and literary events which are conducted over a three day period during which students from all over the country interact with each other and create a festive atmosphere in the university.

FROM THE PEN OF THE FIRST CLAT BATCH, RMLNLU, 2013
mong the thousands of Writ Petitions disposed off by the Apex Court of this country, Writ Petition
(Civil) No. 68 of 2006 is one which has been and will be instrumental in manoeuvring the direction
legal education travels in this nation. The directive of the Supreme Court to institute a common Aentrance examination for entry into the prestigious National Law Schools of the country streamlined the
admission process and ensured the selection of the crème de la crème of legal talent into the hallowed portals
of these institutions. The first CLAT batch of RMLNLU, products of the first uniform common law entrance
examination of the country, their skills honed and legal acumen sharpened after the rigours of five years of
National Law schooling, are ready to step out and be the cynosure of all eyes, come 2013.
The batch of 2013 was heralded by high expectations upon their entry into RMLNLU. It has lived up to
its billing and in many cases, surpassed the hopes attached to it by the legal fraternity. The oral exploits of this
batch have found expression and richly contributed in adorning the trophy cabinet of RMLNLU with
countless Debate competitions and Moot Court Competitions. Members of this globetrotting batch have the
seminal distinction of being the flag bearers of the nation and of the University in International and domestic
Moot Court Competitions respectively. A fasciculus of erudite literature from the pens of this batch adorns
the pages of many a law journal, both domestic and international. Even in the realm of real world legal
experience, the feet of this batch have walked the corridors of imposing judicial forums, left their imprint on a
repertoire of law offices, and made their acquaintance with a multitude of lawyer chambers, senior and
junior, experienced as well as rookie. The organisational prowess and dexterity of this batch in team activity is
evidenced by the gamut of events which have taken place under its stewardship.
The stalwart of American jurisprudence, Justice Holmes remarked “Don't be consistent, but be simply
true.” This batch of RMLNLU holds this precious nugget of wisdom close to itself as it prepares to embark
upon a momentous milestone for its members and for the University as well, for a foolish consistency is the
hobgoblin of little minds as enunciated so effectively by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The challenges before the
legal fraternity today where it has to deal with the questions of pre-natal rights to the quandary of ensuring a
dignified life for our septuagenarians and octogenarians, is immense. The core competence of this batch of
RMLNLU is to straddle the worlds of consistency and truth and intertwine the creatures of toil and genius in
its quest for legal excellence.
