Welcome to the School o Management
The University o Innsbruck School o Management was established on October 1, 2004 as one o the
three successor aculties o the ormer Faculty o Social and Economic Sciences. It currently comprises
ve departments with a research and teaching sta o approximately 80, a Business Languages Unit,
and approximately 20 administrative sta members.
The School o Management
builds its success on the excellent knowledge and skills o all aculty members or the
upcoming development processes and
understands itsel as a dynamic knowledge pool that gathers internationally available
knowledge, expands it and makes it accessible in regional context.
Excellent research sta, the intensive co-operation with high-ranking, primarily European universities
and the systematic integration o colleagues rom all over the world as visiting sta ensure high-qua-
lity education. Students will nd excellent study conditions: The modern technical equipment and
appropriate use o e-learning are an expression o our orientation towards the uture. Small student
groups (max. 30 people) and innovative orms o teaching and learning promote the dialogue and
the co-operation between teaching sta and students. There is hardly any room here or hierarchical
dierences; students are not seen as consumers but as co-producers. A strong link to business
enterprises and not-or-prot organisations will improve graduates career chances.
Our educational philosophy
I you dont want to think, youre out! This was the principle the amous artist Joseph Beuys laid
down or the students in his master class. We, too, think o this principle as an appropriate motto or
university education. In the rst instance, it describes our responsibility as teachers to provide a course
o study that requires real thinking rather than mere memorising. At the same time, it stresses the
students responsibility to examine a subject closely, to develop arguments and to use them to arrive
at their own position and solutions. I all involved take this principle seriously, university education
becomes an intellectual challenge and only then does a real university emerge. Wed like to invite you
to take part in building such a university.
