Q. How did you getinto the lodging busi-ness? I love the resortand lodging business. Igraduated with a degreein Hotel/HospitalityAdministration fromFlorida State University.Although my maincareer path has been incapital medical sales, I have spent agreat amount of time traveling andhave been fortunate to experience somany levels of accommodations athotels. I try to set Cedar RidgeLodge’s accommodation features andquality of stay to a level that guestsrecognize.

Q. You are based in Florida, howdid you discover Bryce Resort? Ilived in the DC metro areafor years and still have ahome there. I found BryceResort to be an attractiveget-away within 90 milesfrom the DC area.

Q. What made youdecide to open CedarLodge at Bryce Resort?

Cedar Ridge Lodge has evolved overthe 9 years I’ve owned it. The “rus-tic-lodge theme” was important tome because in the setting of themountains and ski facility here atBryce, I really believe guests love andwant that type of accommodation for

their vacation.

Q. Have customersbeen pleased with theirexperiences at CedarRidge Lodge? My guestsare usually quite shockedupon arrival and in mostcases text me commentslike, “Wow! This is amaz-ing.” The Western,

Cowboy theme is part of the “aura” atCedar Ridge Lodge and it evokes avery warm comfortable feeling ofbeing out in a ski area of Aspen orVail, Colorado, some guests havesaid.

Q. Have you used the BryceGuide in the past for marketing pur-poses? Once guests confirm theirreservation, they receive their Cedar

Q. What are your future plans inthe lodging business? Well... (laugh-ing) part of my plans are all good andexciting, but not yet ready for releaseyet! I'm also considering another larger

lodge-themed accommodation com-plete with full-service, a beautfullodge lobby with a grand fireplaceand multiple numbers of suites suitedfor larger numbers of resort goers, golfers and skiers that would onlyenhance the offerings here at BryceResort. In setting up the interior design

and furnishings of Cedar RidgeLodge, I felt it was important to sup-port local businesses in and aroundNew Market and Mount Jackson. Ipurchased from local businesses forthe most part. The Home Store, which is pri-vately ownedin NewMarket, is abusiness I fre-quent ofteneach time anew phase orupgrade isadded.

Q. What’scoming next

for Cedar Ridge Lodge? Next up,Cedar Ridge Lodge is planning forextensive exterior architecture stone-work and authentic Virginia Logaccents both in the interior and exte-rior to enhance the rustic appearanceand feeling of the lodge.
