Diversity
Solving the problem on the long term
Workshops
Diversity problems might appear every now and then in the workplace. Sometimes, it is hard to manage
a diverse workforce due to the fact that they come from different countries, religions etc. which is a
reason why not everyone take diversity as something positive and use it to achieve greater success by
using cooperating with each other. Facing diversity problems might lead to unproductive workforce,
which at the end affects the company’s overall outcome. To make sure that every employee has a full
understanding about diversity, and how s/he could be benefiting from it, it is recommended that the
company hold a workshop, twice a year. The aim of the workshop is to include all the employees of the
company from different departments; different levels and break them into large diverse groups and
assign tasks for them. The tasks will be serve the company, but it will also have indirect information and
techniques that will help everyone overcome the problems of diversity and how to turn diversity into
something beneficial.
Avoiding the problem on the long term
Policies
Setting policies regarding diversity is very important. The company’s policies represent what does the
company values and what does the company believes in. including diversity in the company’s policies is
important as all the recruited employees will read it upon signing the contract, as well as refer to it, as it
will be included in the employee’s booklet for future reference. An example of the diversity policy could
be similar to: “Jawda Bank values a diverse workforce. Diversity in the workplace is very important and
beneficial. Since Jawda Bank is operating at many parts of the world, hence the diverse workforce when
it comes to nationalities, religions, ethnicity, educational background and standard of living. Jawda Bank
believes that differences makes positive impacts; with a diverse workforce, Jawda Bank will achieve
higher outputs with the employees efforts”.

Posters
To further avoid the diversity problems within the workforce, it is recommended to have several posters
related to diversity posted around the workplace. The posters should contain information about
diversity, what is it, how could it be beneficial, what are the common diversity problems faced in the
workplace and how to avoid them. Poster is a really effective tool to send a specific message to the
audience; due to the fact that it posted for a long time, it will grab the audience attention and curiosity
(Appendix 1, 2, 3). This tool have been used in hospitals, shops, malls etc. because of how easy it can
grab attention, and the fact that it is cost effective, whereas different tools could cost more with less
effect.

Policy
In order to overcome health and safety problems it is recommended that the management
communicate with the employees about the issue. To achieve this, the management may create and
distribute a policy to staff and employees could be involved in developing this policy by brainstorming
options to implement this policy. Involving employees in policy making helps engaging them in issues
related to them and word towards improvements, this can be done by distributing surveys or even focus
group meetings.
Below is a template of health and safety contract that can be used when recruiting employees.

Avoiding the problem on the long term
Health and Safety Assessor
It is suggested that a risk assessor walks around the buildings regularly and makes regular checking on
the equipment and premises to control and prevent any hazard and make sure that the buildings
compliance with health and safety standards.
Training Course
The company may design training courses for new as well as existing employees to make sure that they
are fully aware of all health and safety issues and how to deal with them if any of them raised. It would
be beneficial if the employees were trained on workplace hazards and applicable health and safety
regulations. The training course will include ways to minimize the health and safety risks associated with
slip and trip hazards and understanding hazard management processes. It will also provide knowledge of
the importance of company's policies and procedures to provide a safe working environment as well as
covering a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations,
providing care for the ill or injured using first aid kits until medical aid arrives. Employees might also be
trained on manual handing, fire exits and safe lifting so that when a fire happens for example they know
exactly how to deal with it.
Regular meetings could be hold to identify unsafe conditions and immediately implement solutions to
solve them. The most important factor is that employees are engaged and interested in creating a
healthy and safe working atmosphere.

Posters
Health and Safety hazards could happen from the simplest things we can ever think of. Sometimes,
people does not really realize what is the danger of something until it happens, basically that is due to
the fact that they have not thought of its risk. Therefore, having posters hanging in the office is very
beneficial, as it will work as a reminder of the possible hazards to happen (Appendix 4).

Sexual Harassment
Solving the problem on the long term
Workshops
To deal with the issue of sexual harassment, workshops could be the ideal strategy for the employees to
be aware of it and stop doing it. The workshops could include the definition of sexual harassment and
how it affects the employee that is being harassed emotions, productivity and all the negatives. During
the workshop, certain activities will take in place to keep educate the employees about it. For instance,
it could provide information about how to act when the employee is being harassed or when another
employee is witnessing the harassment, the damage that it causes to the harassed employee, what s/he
should do in regards to that and so on. The workshop could makes a big difference in the workplace in
terms of sexual harassment activities and might help to prevent the scenarios at early stage since the
employees are educated about it. Furthermore, the workshop could be held twice a year for optimal
effectiveness. In addition, it is recommended to do separate the workshop attendees into groups that
includes employees of both genders, find employees from different departments, to assure that the
employees are capable of working with existing and new colleagues from both genders, without doing
any act of harassment towards them.
Avoiding the problem on the long term
Policies
To avoid this problem in the future, policies could be taken a place in the organization. It is suggested
that the policy include the unwelcome behaviors that employees should avoid doing, and the actions
that the organization should take because of that behavior.
Furthermore, every member in the organization should sign on this policy and any future issues there
will be consequences.

Posters
Poster could also be a very effective strategy in the workplace to spread awareness and avoid problems.
Posters also grab the attention of the readers, thus, hanging posters in each office of the organization
could be beneficial to further educate the employees about this specific topic. The posters could contain
a brief explanation of sexual harassment, the disadvantages of it, what to do when it occurs, and whom
to contact about it (Appendix 5). The benefit of it is encouraging employees to speak when any issue
happens to them, and not to be shy or afraid to take an action about it because that will not work in
their favour, and of course, to stop employees to harass their colleagues in any way.

Bullying
Solving the problem on the long term
Workshop
Bullying is a problem that might appear in the workplace. Bullying is intentional aggressive behavior that
involves an imbalance of power or strength. It has many forms, physical bullying; verbal bullying;
emotional bullying; and cyber bullying. Facing this problem in the workplace will affect the employees
and the organization on a negative way. Therefore, it is recommended to have workshop to raise
awareness about bullying and how it affects individuals on a daily basis, and how it will affect the
productivity of the organization. This workshop could be held a year a year to ensure that every
employee in the organization becomes a part of at least one of them.
Avoiding the problem on the long term
Policies
Setting policies’ regarding bullying is very important. Including such policies will clearly ensure that all
employees will be treated with respect and dignity, and any employee that violates the policies, will
receive an action against him/her, such as disciplinary warning and termination of service. Furthermore,
the policy will show that the company values the working relationships and differences of views, and
that they are fair in dealing with such behaviours in the work environment.
Posters
Spreading posters in the company related to bullying is recommended. It will grab the attention and it is
a very effective strategy to send a message. The posters should contain information about bullying, what
is it, how could it be harmful, what are the common bullying problems faced in the workplace and how
to avoid them (Appendix 6, 7).

Equality
Avoiding the problem on the long term
Workshop
Equality means treating everyone fairly regardless of any differences between them such as race,
gender, age, religion, family status etc. However, discrimination may occur in the workplace such as
treating someone unfairly, rules or procedures acts as barriers or harassment. Consequently, this may
results negatively to the organization such as absenteeism, high staff turnover and reduced work output.
It is suggested to have a workshop in the company annually, to ensure that each employee in the
organization understand the importance of equality in the working environment and the risks of
discrimination. All the employees and managers of the company should participate in the workshop. A
presentation about the importance of equality in the workplace will be presented and how
discrimination could affect the productivity and work outputs. Additionally, a task will be given to the
employees and it will include indirect information beside some ways of dealing with discrimination and
how to prevent this problem from happening in the workforce. The task will increase employees’
awareness about the importance of equality and help them to be aware about the procedures that
should be taken in this situation.
Avoiding the problem on the long term
Posters
To avoid discrimination problem in the workplace it is suggested to distribute many posters about
discrimination in the company’s departments, corridors and all around the company. The posters should
include definition of discrimination, speech that favors equality and rejects discrimination, differences
that cause discrimination and how to deal with this problem by having advices for the authorities or
contacting Law Centre inside or outside the company. Posters are an easy way to make your voice
reachable and let your ideas and words got delivered to people in a fast and easy way.

Furthermore, posters grab audience attention and it could influence people effectively and they could
be affected by the speech in the posters. It is a less cost tool as well compared to other methods. This
strategy is recommended also, because it helps employee who are discriminated against but afraid of
certain circumstances of dealing with this problem secretly by getting advices from the law Centre and
helping them to deal with it in the best way (Appendix 8). The reason behind getting advices is due the
fact that there are some employees who suffer from discrimination but they do not know how to deal
with the problem or whom to contact about it. In this case, the posters may indicate them to the right
direction and make them reject this behavior towards them.

ConclusionTo conclude, the recommended strategies are the most effective and useful in the opinion of the
departments’ mangers. The identified problems are very serious, and could deeply damage the
employees’ level of productivity, absenteeism, turnover and emotions. It is advised to act upon the
recognized problems to help eliminating them from existence in the workplace.
