About the course

Managing people and organisations have his-torical importance to the evolution of civilisa-tion. From the first industrial revolution to the

automation revolution, the emphasis on sustainabil-ity and the emergence of Artificial Intelligence, busi-ness is imperative in everything we do as a society. At DGHE we will provide you with the fundamentals of business. You will learn about designing organi-sational strategies, recruiting human resources that bring competitive value to your organisation, creat-ing an effective marketing plan to attract customers, and assessing the financial value of your business. In year 1, you will gain a background knowledge

and understating of business, the functions of an organisation and the wider business environ-ments. In addition, you will be introduced to principles of marketing where it aims to enable you to develop a marketing plan and to employ elements of the market-ing mix to achieve results. To be able to attract, recruit and retain staff, Human Resources module will give you the tools and techniques to maximize the employee contribution and how to use HR methods to gain com-petitive advantage and much more.

BTEC HND in Business

The HND in Business is a relevant vocational course, that is delivered over two years, and that includes a broad range of relevant management areas that are primal areas of concern to sen-ior management in the private, public and NGO sector, across a range of industries. The HND is recognised as the equivalent to the first two years of a UK degree. HND graduates will there-fore gain entry into the third and final year at a university and be able to work toward obtaining a BA Honours Degree in only one further year of study.

In year 2, you will gain an understanding of how management information and decision-making are enhanced by the application of statistical methods. Moreover, discover the influence culture, politics and power have on the behaviour of others in an organisational context. A broad understanding of the consumer’sdecision-making processes, from needs recognition through research, the evaluation of alterna-tives, purchase and post-purchase evaluation.

To gain the HND each module must be successfully completed. Assessment is by a combination of coursework, assignments, projects or an examination. All assessments are externally verified by Pearson. Most units on the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) level courses are worth 15 UK credits. Students will be expected to commit at least 150 notional hours towards completing the learning outcomes per

unit. This usually consists of a combination of around 60% direct teaching time and around 40% independent study time (e.g. preparations for research and assessments, background reading, etc.)

FacilitiesDGHE is housed in David Game College, 31-35 Jewry Street, EC3 and is a short walk from Aldgate and Tower Hill tube stations. In 2016/17 the premises underwent a major multi-million pound refurbishment and the Centre now benefits from a modern, well resourced, comfortable, state-of-the-art learning environment. All classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment and comfortable seating with WiFi access available throughout the building. There is a learning resources centre, IT suite, tutorial rooms, 200 seat auditorium, break-out area and café serving hot and cold food and beverages. Students also benefit from an extensive range of online study materials avail-able through the college’s virtual learning environment.

Entry Requirements

UK and EU studentsCandidates will need one of the following:

‘A’ level standard or overseas equivalent

Mature students (21+) with at least 2 years of relevant experience and level 2 or equivalent.

Other UK level 3 qualifications (e.g. Foundation Di-ploma, Access to HE Certificate, a BTEC National, Ad-vanced GNVQ or AVCE) or equivalent.

International students: The BTEC Higher National qualifications are accredited on the RQF for learners aged 18 years and over
