Cost with Space Heaters

The total amount that the high school is spending on heating fuel is about $115,110.65 per year.

With the usage of just space heaters it would cost $10,091.04 for the first year (with the cost of the actual heaters included) and just $6,539.04 every year after.

Change to current fuel costChange to current fuel cost

With the current temperature being at about 70˚F we will lower the thermostat to about 61˚F which is a 13% different in temperature and cost. Therefore the cost for our heating fuel will be $100,146.27. With the total cost running space heaters every year our total for heating the high school will be $106,685.31. We save $8,425.34 a year.

Trial and ErrorTrial and Error

We feel this is a good idea. Just to make sure this will work we want to plan a trial first. We can pick a room in each wing of the high school and test our space heater idea. If it works we can expand the idea throughout the whole school.

Laptop Distribution Plan Laptop Distribution Plan

The Northwestern Lehigh School District has recently made a large purchase of laptops, chargers, and “C.O.Ws”. All of these appliances use large portions of electricity. The main idea is to loan laptops out to students in 11th and 12th grade courses while 9th and 10th grade courses use computer labs. This will cut costs on electricity.

ResponsibilityResponsibility

The students are responsible for charging their laptops at home every night so that they have a full battery for the next day. If a student needs to charge their laptop during flex on a daily basis they will lose their privilege to loan a laptop.

With the amount of money that is saved the school will be able to replace old laptops that are starting to die off. Also their will be enough to start funding a different expense.

This will cut down on the electricity cost and it could save a lot indirectly such as paper and text books because you can use the laptops as

substitutes.

LED LightsLED LightsThere are fluorescent light bulbs throughout the whole high

school building. If we could replace all of the fluorescent light bulbs

with LED light bulbs over a couple years we could save energy. The

LED light bulbs are more expensive and will have to be installed by

an electrician, but they last a lot longer. These bulbs are also more

environmentally friendly than fluorescent bulbs. If we replace the

bulbs overtime, we will be saving money on lighting energy and

fluorescent bulb replacement.

The marquee that sits outside the school consumes a rather large amount of energy. We propose that the marquee not only displays upcoming events but also advertisements for local companies.

Conclusion for all of our ideasConclusion for all of our ideas

As a group, we are trying to save money for our school

and go green at the same time. The school shouldn’t have

to spend so much money on our necessities. All the school

board needs to do is a little research and they will be able to

save over $20,000 a year.
