Set Your Personal Standard For SurvivalPeople that work in emergency management should practice what they preach.Mental conditioning- have a mindset attitude of survival and learn all that you can, to prepare for a disaster mode.Physical conditioning-set up a workout program at least three times a week for 45 minutes to reduce stress and prepare for those demanding days of emergencies and disasters.Nutrition-make time to eat a well balance diet from all your food groups.Have a ready to go bag that you can access and always carry a small flashlight on your person.Build an EM survival kit that you can access.

The Four Principals of SurvivalWater- we need water to survive to sustain life, we cannot survival long without water.Food- the human body has been know to go as long as two weeks without eating.Protection-from the elements such as weather or other hazards. Need to build or find shelter.Location-depending on the environment or terrain to provide a safe location from flooding, fires, collapse buildings and other safety hazards.

Emergency Management MindsetEmergency management is already prepared to handle emergencies and disasters.By training in primitive survival skills and knowing how to use your EM survival kit effectively, we will take ourselves to the next higher level. You will give hope to others that they will survive.

What Makes Survival Successful?Knowledge Rule- read up on survival books on camping, fishing, hunting, weather training, map and compass reading.

Skills Rule- join a primitive survival club and take training. Ask a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout or someone that has served in special military units.

Attitude Rule- have a positive can do attitude to live for yourself and for others. People who have all the survival gear and lose their will to live will die.

Luck Rule-By learning the first three rules, your luck will increase. You do not have to be a Rambo, just learn a few basic survival skills to keep you alive, to get to a safe area.

Emergency Management Has A MindsetEmergency management is already trained on how to handle emergencies and disasters. We should train to survive with limited resources, so we can reach a safe zone.We are responsible for other peoples survival. Our survival and knowledge can mean the difference of life or death. We need to train ourselves to the next level for the worst adverse situations. What if we lose our to go bag and we only have our EM survival kit to help us survive.

Survival Is Not By ChanceRead up on survival books and watch online videos.Understand your knowledge on survival.Make time to practice your new skills regularly to maintain readiness.Inspect your EM Survival Kit at least once a month. Before going into going into an emergency or disaster environment; check to make sure the scene is safe.Learn about the disaster area you will be going into, as to the type of hazards, terrain, animals, plants and current conditions of the disaster area you will enter.Set markers like ribbons or tags to mark where you are going, so if you get lost, you can back track or a rescue party can find you.

EDUCATION + PREPAREDNESS + SKILLS + RESOURCES = SURVIVAL

NSA Is My Friend!

Survival Attitude of NSAMy NSA definition means, Never Stop Your Attitude.Your Attitude will carry you a long way in your survival.Keep a positive attitude, even when things seem hopeless.Encourage others with your survival attitude.

You Do Not Have To be a Rambo, Mc Giver or a Dog Soldier, To be a Survivor!

What Can Emergency Management do to Survive?Read books on primitive survival skills.Find a Wilderness group that can teach you the basic skills on how to use items in your EM survival kit.Watch online videos from Willow Haven Outdoor by Creek Steward and videos from Sigma 3 Survival School-Robert Allen. There are many other great instructors across this nation to learn from.Set up on hands training clinics on basic survival skills.Practice your skills to be familiar with your kit.Incorporate survival skills into your CERT teams, disaster volunteers.Always remember safety first.

Why Do I Need A EM Survival Kit?We need to educate ourselves and learn how to survive on limited resources for worst case scenario. We need to be ready to help our family, friends, coworkers and strangers in time of need.We need to set a higher standard to reduce stress and avoid chaos.

Six Reasons For Survival Preparedness Reason #1-You maybe forced to function suddenly to survival in a disaster situation with limited resources or no resources.Reason #2-Challenge yourself to be truly prepared mentally, physically and emotionally.Reason #3-Take time to learn, prepare and practice skills for the ultimate disaster chaos and unrest.Reason #4-Prepare your tools, equipment and the rest of your resources. Inspect your items every month to be mission ready.Reason #5-You are not just helping yourself, but you are helping others.Reason #6-You may not get help in 72 hours, help could be late by 7 days or never come at all.

Real Life Scenario 11996 of July, the monsoon rains struck heavily in Arizona at the Havasupai Reservation. Creating walls of heavy flash flooding. Two tourist from New York were carrying heavy equipped backpacks and it was there first time in the canyon. They first refuse to let there backpacks go and when they almost drowned. Several native people went to their aide and the group of 15 lost their water supply and food to rescue the two tourist from New York. Had to depend on rain puddles from the stone canyon area, cactus and small lizards to survive. Because the native group grew up learning survival skills and was able to make it out of the Grand Canyon; 16 people survived.

July 1996, I was one of those that survive the monsoon rains on the Havasupia Reservation, we survived because we had prepared mentally, physically and spiritually. We study our surroundings of Mother Earth, plus in our party, we had three that knew the surroundings well and have survived in extreme conditions on the reservation.20

Real Life Scenario 21997 of July, 12 German tourist were visiting the Havasupia Reservation, when the monsoon heavy rains came. The group did not have the survival skills needed, knew how to function in the canyon environment and became lost. They had no proper resources to help survive while in the canyon. Someone had reported all of them missing. All 12 bodies of the tourist were found and evidence that pointed that they all drown.

The 12 Germans were not prepared mentally, physically or spiritually, plus did not know their surroundings. No one knew the area on the reservation.21

What Could Happen If you Do Not Have A Kit?If we lose all our supplies, we will run the risk of drinking unsafe water. Contaminated water is one of the biggest killers to cause death of humans and animals. Not able to provide your self with shelter can affect your survival rate (Especially during rain and cold weather). Not learning survival skills can create stress, doubt, panic and reduce your effectiveness; in allowing chaos to set in and then you can die or someone else will.

Not Only Prepare, Prepare To Survive! Dont Check In Early Into The Cemetery!
