In 2014, HomeAid Northern Virginia—along with seven builder captainsand their trade partners—gave 1,300 formerly homeless individualswhat matters most: a home, a second chance, and a reason to hope.

Together, we renovated, upgraded, and expanded eight properties—with the costs for four of them 100 percent donated.

All serve the area's homeless, including families, single adults withmental disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, and teens.

Through Women Giving Back, we gave 4,000 women and children

new confidence with 66,600 articles of free clothing and accessories.

We were honored with five prestigious awards, one of which came

with a $25,000 prize. We forged new alliances with new partners,

and gratefully accepted a $100,000 gift from a local developer. We

helped create new memories and opportunities for our youngest

citizens, whether it was throwing out the first pitch at a baseball

game or starting school with a brand new backpack. And most

importantly, we did it together. Thank you.

“The building industry workshard all year, every year, building homes for peoplewho can pretty much takecare of themselves. What we don’t have as easily is theopportunity to help those whodon’t have as much. HomeAidgives us that chance. Andonce you’ve worked withHomeAid, and you see howgrateful people are to receivewhat you’re uniquely able togive them, you’ll keep doing it year after year. It’s a rewardfor the soul and the spirit. Itgets to the point that it almostfeels a little selfish … you getsuch a feeling from theseprojects that you want to do it again and again.”

—Jerry Berman, President, M/I Homes

HomeAid Northern Virginia is seeking homebuilders to serve as BuilderCaptains for a variety of shelter projects throughout Northern Virginia.

Make 2015 the year YOU lead a project.

By investing nearly $250,000 into eight properties, HomeAid and its partnerssaved shelters a historical year-end high of 92 percent in construction costs.

The result? More than $220,000 in funding that service providers redirected toprograms that directly benefit our region’s homeless men, women, and children.

Thank you to David Flanagan, president of Elm Street Development, for

be directly helped through this gift,” said Fundraising Chairman John DeZinno in

gratitude, “and how many lives will be changed over the long-term.”

The projects completed for thefollowing service providersimmediately gave new hopeand a second chance to 1,300individuals, but over the next10 years, that number will jumpto an astounding 13,000.

Helping ServiceProvidersChange Lives

“HomeAid projects are agodsend. It means we don’thave to spend our funding on arenovation—we can put thoseprecious funds towardprograms and services for ourresidents. The wear and tearon our facility is significant, and while we can take care ofa lot of basic maintenance andrepairs ourselves, we just can’tbudget for major projects.”

—Judith Dittman, executive director, Alternative House

While bringing kids to the ballpark isn’tanything new for HomeAid, it was a first-time experience for many of the kids andparents who attended HomeAid’s FourthAnnual Night at the Ballpark in August.More than 300 kids and adults—the best-attended night at the ballpark that HomeAidhas hosted to date—made happy memoriesat the game. The event was mentioned onNBC-4's nightly broadcast.

After 13 years of use by up to eight teens ata time, the bathroomsat Alternative Houseneeded upgrades! A $11,500 investment, the teens have updatedbathrooms andAlternative House has more funding forresident services.
