It was on a recent Sunday afternoon, just before commencing a visit at Jalan Kampong Chantek, that I found some bright red saga seeds under a roadside tree. The photo on the cover of this booklet captures that moment, and, I hope, some of the spirit of our beautiful community.

For the last 4.5 years, I have made it a priority to do as many estate visits and meet as many residents face-to-face as possible. My team and I have visited every existing HDB block in the division at least twice, and have also made multiple visits to Trivelis, the newest addition to public housing in our area. We've knocked on doors along every street in the landed estates, and we've held gatherings in all the condominiums as well, in some cases making door-to-door visits too. We have begun visiting residents in the Watten and Dunearn areas and look forward to welcoming them to Bukit Timah family soon.

I believe theres no better way than such visits for our residents to let me know whats in your hearts, and for me to let them know I care about what you have to say. Your feedback has helped us improve the neighbourhood, provide more amenities, create new services, and solve

problems too. In problem-solving, I believe persistence will always

pay off. This was how we helped residents secure a goodwill offer from the developer of Trivelis, obtain an unprecedented third poll for the residents of Block 206 Clementi Avenue 6 on lift upgrading, obtain a temporary carpark behind Block 204, and create a temporary community garden near Clementi Ave 4 after SLA served notice to evict unauthorised planters on state land.

We have also worked hard to improve infrastructure in the Division. We've built walkways and ramps in Toh Yi, beautified the Ulu Pandan canal to benefit the residents of Clementi Avenue 4 and brought the Home Improvement Programme to the flats in Clementi Avenue 6. At the private estates, we've upgraded playgrounds and improved drains.

Our work is also about community values. Our residents inspired us to set up the Bukit Timah Wildlife Network a group of volunteers working with government agencies and NGOs to educate the public about not littering and not feeding the wildlife in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Constituency work keeps me very busy, but I also serve at MOE and MCI as Minister of State. Im particularly glad to work on improving the quality, accessibility and affordability of special education and support students with special needs. Making sure no one is left behind is something close to my heart.

There is much to look forward to. The opening of the Downtown Line 2 in December 2015 will be a game-changer for public transport in Bukit Timah. The development of the rail corridor will be a boon for residents living close by. And we plan to continue meeting and speaking with our residents. Because I believe talking to you is the best way to hear what you have to say.

untuk membuat lawatan di estet perumahan dan berjumpa seberapa ramai penduduk. Saya dan pasukan saya telah melawat penduduk di blok HDB, estet privet dan kondominium. Kami juga telah mula melawat Trivelis, Watten dan Dunearn.

Maklum balas yang kami terima membolehkan kami menangani masalah anda. Kami berjaya membantu penduduk Trivelis mendapatkan pampasan daripada pihak pemaju, menaik taraf lif untuk Blok 206 Clementi Avenue 6, dan membina tempat letak kereta sementara di belakang Blok 204. Malah, kami juga telah berjaya membina taman

masyarakat berdekatan Clementi Avenue 4.Kami telah bekerja keras untuk memperbaiki prasarana

di kawasan kita seperti membina laluan pejalan kaki dan tanjakan di Toh Yi, memperindah sekitaran terusan di Ulu Pandan untuk penduduk di Clementi Avenue 4 dan HIP di Clementi Avenue 6. Penduduk di kawasan estet privet juga tidak kami lupakan.

Banyak yang boleh kita harapkan untuk masa hadapan. Pembukaan Downtown Line 2 pada Disember 2015 akan memperbaiki pengangkutan awam di kawasan kita. Kami juga tidak sabar menunggu pembangunan koridor rel. Marilah kita teruskan usaha menjadikan Bukit Timah lebih baik.

Through visits and a dialogue, we heard the concerns of Trivelis home owners and helped them secure a goodwill package from the developer.

In response to our feedback, LTA will install the first at-grade expressway noise barriers near Swiss View and Greenbank Park.

Caring For Nature

The Bukit Timah Wildlife Network is a partnership between residents, volunteers, government agencies and NGOs to educate the public on why we should refrain from littering and feeding the wildlife at the Bukit Timah nature reserve.

Each year, volunteers and residents from Bukit Timah would support the donation drive by Tabung Amal Aidilfitri (TAA) Trust Fund, which gives assistance to needy households.

We also contribute to SINDAs Project GIVE which supports the educational needs of children from low-income families.

Organised by the Malay Activity Executive Committee, Anugerah Rentak Emas attracted more than 200 residents to compete in vocal, kompang and modern dance.
