I know I usually say this on Sunday morning, but it seems appropriate in the newsletter because I can’t see any of you right now which, since the coronavirus shut down, is the same on Sunday morning. I know, however, that God is watching over us, protecting us, and loving us in His usual unconditional way, and that is our hope and our salvation. Praise the Lord! The one thing I’ve noticed during this time of quarantine is that there is more time for self-reflection. During the pre-coronavirus days we were all so busy going here and going there that our minds were occupied with a wide variety of exciting things to do, exotic places to go, and fabulously interesting people to hang out with. In staying home, however, there is more down time. This makes this an ideal time to address spiritual matters. It can be a time to look at ourselves, our relationships with our mates and others, as well as se- riously look at our relationship to God. During this health crisis, I’ve often heard the joke that people will come through this quarantine either as a better cook or an alcoholic. Even though that is a cute joke, I’d like to suggest this is a wonder- ful opportunity to become a better Christian. It all depends on whether we have used our time wisely for spiritual growth. In the usual hustle and bustle of life quiet time is often at a premium. During this time of quarantine, we have more time to pray, study the Bible, and deepen our relationship with Jesus than we usually have. Have we used our time wisely?

Bull Shoals United Methodist Church Council Meeting May 17, 2020

Members Present: Wade Fox, Vickie Fox, Curt Bryant, Everette Long, Pastor Pete Beevers, Margaret Hodg-es, and Debbie Lewallen. Chairman Wade Fox called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. Pastor Pete said a prayer. Margaret Hodges distributed the April Financial report. She reported that $0 was paid for payroll taxes since there were no employee paychecks in April except for Pastor’s which is exempt, that Entergy replaced the electric meter at the church so both March and April bills will be billed in May. We saved $589.10 in tithing payments due to the Arkansas Conference deferral. Margaret stated she would like to wait at least 30 days before transferring the remaining Arvest balance to First Security. She reported that the Baxter Bulletin church ad dispute was finally settled. We now have a $0 balance and will the weekly rate will be $4.10. Ever-ette made a motion to approve the financial report with the modification of waiting 60 days instead of 30 to close out the Arvest Bank. Vickie seconded. Motion passed. Jim Poole sent a written finance report stating that even with the Coronavirus pandemic our finances thus far have remained stable. We are doing well as most church members are continuing to contribute as usual even though they are unable to physically attend church sessions. Our Operating Account is down 17%, but our liabilities are down as well so the bottom line is our Equity is up 4%. Our income is down 14% but our ex-penses are down 25%. Overall, our Net profits (Excess Income/Expenses) are up 1%. Everette Long reported that the Trustees have repaired the parsonage kitchen window and will be installing the new church doors with panic bars on May 19th. They are getting bids to replace the church roof which is leaking and causing mold problems in a classroom. Steve’s Carpet Cleaning Service will be contacted for the removal of the mold. The bids will be for a metal roof and one bid already received is for $50,000. An anony-mous donor has given $10,000 for the project. The parsonage back porch light will be installed this week. The Trustees will take measures to ensure the church is re-opened according to the state and conference guide-lines; otherwise, we could be held liable. Additional cleaning supplies will be paid out of the custodian sup-plies budget line. Face Masks have been ordered to hand out to those who do not have them when re-opening. Pastor Pete and Curt will be participating in the state conference meeting to be held electronically. The State Meeting will also be held electronically in June. Vickie Fox will order self-contained Communion kits for safety concerns. Expense will come out of the Wor-ship budget line. A re-launch committee has been formed that will follow re-opening guidelines set by the state and the confer-ence. A start date of July 5

th has been set for the first face to face gathering for the church.

This is subject to change as circumstances evolve. Council will meet June 14th at 2:00 p.m. for re-evaluation. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
