Ryan says the most challenging part of his job is personal attitudes. Ryan loves being healthy and fit, and he enjoys boating, and being a part of the Jeep Club. Ryan and his wife Angel have two kids, Dustin (21), and Tiffany (15). Summer is Ryan's favorite season because of the warmness! He enjoys any kind of music! Breast Cancer Awareness Walk Info:

With Breast Cancer Month slowly approaching I wanted to send information about what we do at MSD to help support the fight against breast cancer! Just last year MSD raised over $1,500.00!!! Not only did MSD raise money, but we also had a large group of team members come out and walk at fifth third field to help support the fight against breast cancer! This year we would love for YOU to join us to help support the fight against breast cancer! We may do raffles, or you may purchase a t-shirt, or simply join us to walk at fifth third field! There will be a sign up sheet out on the front desk for you to sign up if you and your family would like to walk! Next to the sign-up sheet is a flyer with the design of the shirts for this year’s event. If you would like to purchase a shirt please see Miranda Hopwood!

MSD is pleased to announce our new “Safety Rewards “program. Here is how it works. Nominations:

Who- Any team member can nominate any team member (including oneself) for “Safety Team Member of the Month”. For What- Anything that is “above and beyond” our normal safety requirements. Ex. Safety suggestions, voluntary participation in audits and/or training, investigations, hazard recognition and abatement, near miss reporting, leading classes, etc… How- 1) Paper form, available in the file folder at the front desk, returned to the Safety Manager. 2) Portal form submitted online.

Selection:

All nominations will be presented anonymously to the safety committee, which meets the last Wednes-day of each month. The committee will select the winner based on the reported actions. That person will be named “Safety Team Member of the Month”. Other Possible Categories:

-“Co-Safety Team Member of the Month” -Honorable Mention -Top Nominator

Rewards:

The winner of each applicable category will receive a comparable prize. Ex. gift card, basket, package, cash, etc The winner will be recognized and picture published in the newsletter and on the portal. The winner will also be nominated for “Safety Team Member of the Year”. Safety Team Member of the Year:

Each “Safety Team Member of the Month” will automatically be nominated for “Safety Team Member of the Year”. The Safety Committee will convene for a special session in December to determine the winner, to be announced at the Christmas party. -“Safety Team Member of the Year” will receive: -A prize commensurate with their accomplishment. -Recognition in the newsletter and on the portal. -A Nomination for ABC National’s “Safety Employee of the Year”. -Dinner at ABC’s “Excellence In Construction” banquet. (usually in April)

Electrical Hazards

Almost any kind of job you can think of today involves using electricity. That is why it is important

for everyone to understand how to avoid electrical shock.

There are many different kinds of electrical hazards, depending on the kind of place

where you work. Some jobsites have high voltage installations and some use small elec-

trical equipment. But whether the electrical shock comes from an overhead transmission

line or an incorrectly grounded power tool, the results can be equally fatal.

Besides electrical shock, electricity can also cause other hazards. Electrical shock can

cause the startled victim to fall from a ladder. Electricity causes burns, including severe

internal burns. Electricity can cause fires, for instance when circuits are overloaded and

the resulting heat sets off a fire. Electricity can cause explosions, as would be the case if an

electrical spark occurred in the presence of a flammable vapor, gas or dust.

When electricity enters the human body, it can affect the heartbeat, brain function and breathing. It

can cause immediate death or serious injury. Under the wrong conditions, even small amounts of

electricity can kill, so never take any electrical device for granted.

Follow these tips to avoid electrical shock: Always make sure all electrical equipment you use is in good repair. Report any problems so the equipment can be

repaired or replaced.

Never do repairs on electrical equipment unless you are both authorized and qualified to do so. Fatal accidents

have been caused by poorly repaired equipment.

Use only correctly grounded equipment. Never use three-pronged cords which have had the third prong broken off.

Make sure grounding connections are secure.

Watch for wires and connections which are damaged, worn or broken.

Use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) when using electrical equipment outdoors or in a damp area. Do not

use electrical equipment which is damp or which may have been submerged in water. Do not handle any electrical

equipment, including cords and plugs, with wet hands.

When unplugging a cord, pull on the plug rather than the cord.

Never use a ladder made of aluminum or one with metal reinforcement when doing any electrical work. This

includes changing a light bulb.

Don’t overload power strips. Make sure you stay within their load ratings and never daisy chain with other

power strips or multi-plug outlets. Have wiring upgraded to accommodate new equipment.

Determine if there are any overhead hazards such as power lines and electrical installations. Take precau-

tions to not come into contact with them with an object such as a ladder, pole or pipe.

Don't ever use water on an electrical fire. If fire occurs in energized electrical equipment, use only a “C” fire

extinguisher, or a combination “ABC” or “BC” extinguisher. Never put water on an electrical fire; the result can

be a deadly shock.

It’s time for a little late summer fun and camaraderie. Dust off the clubs and join in for food, fun and compe-tition on the links. We had a lot of fun last year and expect this year to be even better. This will be a Four-man, Texas-Scrambled format. Dinner will be provided after the round along with the

awards presentation. We encourage everyone to join in on the fun, no matter what your ability level. This

is a fun time and we hope to see you there!!!

Games will be: 4-man low score, long drive, closest to pin, putting contest and maybe a few more.

Please bring a few extra dollars for the games and help support our charities. All money raised at this

years event will go to a charity which is TBA.
