Wow. Another year is gone!

2015 was a great year for Bulldogs. In Korea the number 1 dog All Breeds is a Bulldog. In the UK the number 3 dog All Breeds is a Bull-dog!

In the USA Bulldogs are winning groups and Best in Shows all the time.

Read about Doris Boyd’s judging appointment at the BCA Nationals and also read about the size of Bulldogs in this issue.

Also read about the interview Bozena had with Jim McGreevy and Annette Binneveld wrote another Bulldog Story.

A big thank you to Bozena Schuldesova for conducting the inter-view with Jim and presenting it in such a way for me to basically copy it into the magazine. You are a star!

A special word of thanks to Kurt & Kirsten Olesen for the lovely Christ-mas Card (see page 70/71)

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and may all your dreams come true in 2016.

Jim McGreevy

…….About great bulldog show in show in the Italian Trieste…..On the autumn of this year the Club exhibition of english bull-dogs, in David Scully Memorial took place at Trieste, Italy.

As the judge was invited Mr. Jim McGreevy and his wife Kirsty from Ireland. Now we are pretty intriguated how it was for them in the sunny Italy.

Let us share a short look on interview with Mr. Jim McGreevy IRL ((Joelee Bulldogs).

Jim, in October you were judgeing with your wife Kirsty on the Club exhibition of English bulldogs in Italian Trieste. Was this exhibition somehow special for you?

Jim: It’s always special to get the opportunity to judge CAC, though for me it’s more special when it’s a big bulldog Club show abroad, so definitely yes it was a special show.

The exhibition took place at the top floor of the shopping centre with a large teracce and restaurant. Did you like these surroundings and organisation of the exhibition as well?

Jim: It was a first for me to judge in this type of venue but it never put me of, in fact for me it added to the character of the whole thing. The show was well run, had a good ring set up and a live stream.

How would you assess the quality of showed bulldogs?

Jim: With all the imports from the uk and other countries into Italy over the years and of course what the breeders in Italy are produc-ing, I was expecting to get good dogs and I was not let down, espe-cially when it came to my main winner, I was very pleased.

Jim McGreevy

Was it difficult to find the best bulldog?

Jim: I found my best dog and best bitch quiet easy, though finding my best in show was not so easy. In the end it was down to the wire and the male took it on the day as he had over all better balance

With what kind of feelings had you left back to UK?

Jim: I wish we had longer in such a beautiful city and country, North-ern Ireland is my homeland and I’m proud to come from there, but it’s always cold lol it was 22oC in Italy, right up my street as I wear shorts every day of the year haha!! We will definitely make a point in going back to Italy in the future.

What is the best adventure you took with yourself from this trip?

Jim: It is very hard to pinpoint one thing in particular as we had a great time from start to finish. One of the best parts for me was being there and getting to judge such a great show. We loved the restaurant/bar that hosted are meals on both Friday and Saturday night. The hotel we stayed in was lovely, very old school Italian and let’s not forget the Port of Trieste, we loved the pasta, ice cream and seeing the sights, such a beautiful place.

Jim McGreevy

Would you like to leave some message for our readers and your fans?

Jim: I was not aware I had fans haha!! joking aside though, It was a pleasure to be there. I want to thank everyone from the show, first for the invite and secondly for their hospitality on our stay. To all the peo-ple who took the time to travel and show under me and for taking their placings so gracefully. Thank you again for all the lovely messages and comments that I received after the show, thankful for my judging and critiques.

Jim and hiswinner

And for my fans lol.....watch this space, I’m looking forward to my next appointment, wherever it my take me/us,

Team Joelee. Championship show judge ( NI ) Jim McGreevy (Joelee Bulldogs)

Thank you Mr. Jim McGreevy for pleasant interview.

Judging at BCA Nationals

The show this year reminded me of the ones from long ago when the breeders looked and decided which dog he would take to the nation-al.....one special dog or bitch....the best he had.

For many of us it was the looking forward to seeing and talking to people we’d not seen, or talked to, for a whole year. Sometimes when FB is filled with angery and hurtful remarks, I wish we could go back to that time again. And then I think about all the good things that have come about because of FB.

People can talk to each other when they’re hurting or looking for help. And it’s fun watching the upcoming hopefuls mature. I remem-ber waiting all year, just to see what Cody would bring out. I guess if I could go back I would not change a thing. It was fun then, and now, it’s still the same. People caring about each other ...feeling their pain and rejoicing when health has been restored. Social media can take away but God can restore.

When we get to the end of the day, and the end of another nation-al, we all go home planning for that special time next year when we gather again to see friends....eat a lot....drink a whole lot...and hope-fully take home the next National Winner.

Kevin Davis recently judged dogs at the Junior Bulldog Club in the UK. This is what he had to say:

"I judged the males and was a bit disappointed in the overall quality with in my opinion not many potential champions.

From a health perspective the breed has improved but from the stan-dard it hasn't. Size is becoming a problem with many being far too big, although they excel in other virtues."

This is rather disappointing. I have raised the size issue some time ago and people were laughing. But i agree with Kevin. The question is how we can address this issue?

Here is some suggestions/comments from influential breeders:

Elizabeth Hugo Milam The damage was done, in my opinion, when they raised the standard for weight. I’m so glad BCA “holds fast” in this area. The dogs in Europe are significantly bigger over-all. The good news is that the higher quality dogs stay closer to the origi-nal intent

Sue Garside We have a breed standard to adhere to & this does in-clude size, even if not specifically mentioned.... because a huge 55lb dog will be thin !! A dog say 10lbs over breed standard is always ac-cepted, but a dog of maybe 4-5lbs below is considered “small”. 55lbs for a male should be easily do-able without too much compromise...

Sara Lamont I’m a sickler for size too! But some are happy to show and award beasts! My youngest girl only just tops 23kg at 16mths

Does size matters?

Me and my brother just returned from a good Sunday morning walk with our female boss. Last week was very wet and grey. Finally it is a dry morning. So I am also in for a brisk walk, and that does not hap-pen often.

The Netherlands lie below sea level, and there are many rivers, we live next to one of these rivers. This summer people started a project that is called “room for the river”. By giving the river more space they are aiming for less threat of flooding.

Because of this project we have beautiful new walking areas, and I must confess secretly I enjoy these beautiful areas. There is enough space and the views are magnificent. But I’m not that stupid to show my boss. I do not want to give her the idea that we have to do this several times a day. That’s a bridge to far. I cannot take the risk that my nails become too short and I get muscle pain.

Our other boss was not with us. He was still in bed because I think he is exhausted. He has his own flowershop. The shop had to be all about the Christmas spirit last month. So he has been working over-time in the evenings and in the weekends.

Therefore we try to spare him and not ask from him to play with us ev-ery night. But every other day. I think it is his responsibility to get the people in our town in the Christmas spirit. He provides them suitable decorations to make their home snug and cozy. So when you think of him that way he is a kind of Santa too. He is getting the same looks because he has no time to shave. So when you out there need a replacement Santa you can use my boss. Just contact me . You have to arrange the reindeers yourselves. When that fails we can give my brother a red nose and antlers. No one will notice the difference.

What about Bulldogs?What about Bulldogs?

Annette Binneveld

What about Bulldogs?

Talking about reindeers, I think they are really overrated. How cool would it be, when we bulldogs pull Santa’s sledge instead. We have many more benefits. We are stronger, smarter, and definitely bet-ter looking, Santa can recognize us more easily because we are all unique. We are smaller so we can approach unwitnessed, so you don’t see us when there is a lot of snow.

Another advantage: people can finally release new Christmas songs. Who isn’t bored of “Rudolph the red nosed reindeer”? I can already see myself all over the billboards. The new star in town “Hazes” San-ta’s new personal assistant. Then I get my own Elfs. Elfs who mas-sage my ears, polish my nails, comb my hair and make sure my food bowl is filled after a long day of hard work.

The more I think about it the more excited I get. But I have to make sure I become the leader, I don’t want to become too tired. I think I’m going to make this really work. I will write Santa immediately. So don’t be surprised when you see bulldogs flying in the air this Christmas.

Me and my brother Jovi wish you all the best for the holidays and Merry Christmas from us.

See you in 2016!!!Greetings Hazes
