QUIZ N IGHT
The club is running a Quiz night on Friday
19th August and will also be playing the
Eagles vs Hawthorn on the big screen.
We are looking for your support with this event
so the club can finish strongly with its
fundraising activities this year. Its a great
chance to have a cheap night out with the
bar being open and alcohol served at cheap
club prices. The game will be playing and we
will have a variety of activities at quarter, half
and three quarter time with the quiz starting in
earnest at the completion of the game.
The night is close to SOLD OUT so reserve your
tickets soon as there will not be tickets at the
door.
L INCOLNS LAST BASH
For those that don’t know the Quiz Night will
also be the last social function with Lincoln
Rollo as President as he will be stepping down
at the end of this season after 5 years.
It would be great for everyone including those
past parents and friends to get to the Quiz and
Friday Footy night as by all accounts the
Canham Eatery Roast whilst great will pale into
significance next to the roast that Lincoln is
going to get.

YR 7 KAMBA LDA TR IP
WGJFC 4 5 29 def Kambalda 3 0 18
For those that don’t know WGJFC and Kambalda
Football Club have an annual Yr 7 exchange that
alternates between the city and country now
into its 43rd year.
2016 was our teams turn to travel to Kalgoorlie
and Kambalda during the July school holidays
and what a memorable experience it was. The
boys had an amazing time and a win against
Kambalda.
The players all got to bond and know each other
off the field. We visited the super pit, where it was
super cold, learnt about Kalgoorlie in the
Goldfields museum.
At camp the players spent countless hours
playing table tennis, air hockey and foosball.
Late nights, very cold mornings and they even
did the dishes and cleaned up (sort of) after
themselves.
We would like to thank Shaye for pulling it
together, Andrew our bus driver and the
supervising parents and Jarrod as coach.
Thank you WGJFC for allowing us to have this
experience and to Kambalda Footy Club for
hosting the event and being so friendly.

D I S TR ICT DREAMING
ROUND
We celebrated District Dreaming round on
the 26th June at Ellersdale whilst the district
also ran some celebrations over at Barry
Britton oval in Balga.
District Dreaming (formally District
Dreamtime) is a celebration of Indigenous
Culture, and an acknowledgement of the
contributions from both Aboriginal and non-
Aboriginal Australians to our great game of
Australian Rules football.
It is also an opportunity to continue
reinforcement of positive game
environments, provide a history of Aboriginal
culture, and an opportunity to integrate the
community through football.
Before each game the Australian and
Indigenous flag were taken out to the middle
of the ground and the President read out an
Acknowledgment of Country with all players,
coaches and umpires present. It was well
received and plenty of parents were taking
pictures.

SIREN
And the siren sounds. For the first time in the clubs
history the siren is now sounding. The mobile siren
ring out for games both at Ellersdale and
Penistone.
The siren is operated from the canteen, and will
add to the game like atmosphere for all home
games.
YR 11 MELBOURNE TR IP
During the July school holidays the Year
11 team travelled over to Melbourne on
the annual WGJFC Year 11 Melbourne
Trip.
Most of the team attended with 9 parents
in tow. They attended two games at the
MCG and a few tours with the high light
the tour of the Collingwood Holden
Centre where they gained some insight
into the going ons of an AFL club.
Plenty of shopping was done with some
peculiar purchases made!
Thanks to all the parents who attended
for ensuring the boys were safe and able
to enjoy a great trip with loads of
memories.

E L LERSDA LE RENOVAT ION S
As some of you may or may not be aware, the
club is working with both the local and federal
governments in order to receive a grant for
some upgrades to the clubrooms.
The rooms haven't been upgraded for a very
long time and both the storage space and the
change rooms are showing their age and lack
of capacity. There is also a proposal for the
upgrade of the kitchen area.
The proposed renovations will be benefit both
players and members in the long run so please
get behind all club fund raisers such as sausage
sizzles, the quiz and by purchasing the clubs
famous Billy Burger (Bacon, egg and cheese) as
the fundraising from these activities all assist in
raising the much needed money to make
something like this happen.
The club are hoping to conduct these works
before the start of next season.
AND REA M I TCHELL MLC
We would like to thank Andrea Mitchell for her
on-going support of our club. Andrea has
sponsored the club for a number of years and
her kind support has meant our Registration fees
are one of the lowest going around and the
boys get the best equipment.
Andrea is always willing to help and if you wish
to call in, her electorate office is open between
9am and 5pm daily.
For queries relating to her portfolios of Mental
Health and Child Protection, please contact her
Ministerial office on (08) 6552 5400.

PRES IDENTS F INAL WORD
It’s hard to believe we are in the final month of the
regular season! What a season it’s been with some
good and bad results but loads of positivity around
the place.
We currently have 4 teams in the top 4 and have
our fingers crossed a few will make it into finals.
Good luck also to the Mods players and Auskick
players on finishing the season on a high.
This column is likely to be my last as I am stepping
down from the Presidents role at the end of the
season. It was a hard decision to make as the club
has been such a big part of my life for the last 5
years I have filled the role. However it’s the right
time to hand over the reins of the club to a new
President with fresh ideas and loads of enthusiasm.
PRES IDENTS F INAL WORD
(CONT)
I believe I leave the club in a solid position
moving forward and this is in no small part
because of the effort of the Committees I
have sat on over the last 5 years.
We have achieved many things over the
journey but the highlights for me personally
are our club achieving Gold Status within
the Quality Clubs Program being one of
only 29 clubs across Australia. I also will
never forget the feeling when our club won
Champion Club of the Year 2 years in a row
which had never been done before by any
club in our District.
However the thing I will be really proud of
when I'm finished is to have improved
player safety and ensured a higher
importance is put on player development
which extends to every player at our club.
So in ending I want to thank all the
Committee members I have served with, all
the Coaches and Managers I have worked
with and all the other volunteers around the
club that have made it what it is today. I
also want to thank and acknowledge my
family for the sacrifices they have made to
allow me the time to devote to the Football
club.
Lastly I want to thank and wish all the best
to the players both past and present, good
luck to you all.
See you around the tracks and as always
Go the Knights!!
